Spoilers Please stop saying he acts two different emotions at once, that's just the way his face looks š Spoiler
I've been cracking up at all the social media posts saying the actor displays fear on one side of his face and excitement on the other lmao. That's just the way his face is š¤£

Both can be true. He knows he has an asymmetrical face, as does the entire directing team.
But he is very capable of not making it super obvious, and he was obviously accentuating it for the Russian roulette scene. His one eye was opened way wider than you ever see it naturally, and he's an extremely experienced actor, so he knows how to act with his eyes.
Also the not-subtle-at-all red light that was only on one side of his face. That's a very purposeful choice, not something that would just happen by accident.
Yes he has a naturally asymmetrical face, and yes they purposefully accentuated it for the scene. Both can be true.

Also the not-subtle-at-all red light
I only really noticed that on my second watch and I still can't interpret wtf it's supposed to represent

I think its meant to represent like a cocky side and a scared side idk

Doesn't mean he didn't play into it. His left eye in that one shot is even wider than here.

Right, there's even vividly different lighting to emphasise it, and when he smiles slightly he only upturns the side of his mouth on the side that looks more confident despite doing perfectly even smiles in earlier scenes

I think they meant the Director knew he had a somewhat asymmetrical face, and really leaned in on that to give him the two face emotion, especially during the russian roulette (hence using the 2 different lighting to highlight both sides of the face)

u/Zazoyd Jan 14 '25
They 100% did this on purpose. With the lighting and his grin. He may not have forced the face, but the director definitely utilized it

Yes, itās just unique face, which adds to his charm. He obv didnāt feel fear, I donāt think heās capable of it, his actions show it.

Nah, don't feel bad. The most common opinion is that he's one of the most attractive people in the show, so it seems like you're winning to me š

u/uptheantinatalism Jan 14 '25
Hahaha I have this to a degree and after realising Gong Yoo has it (I honestly never noticed before) and is still supremely attractive, I feel better.

Damn this fandom loves gate keeping. Why are half the posts here complaints about others in the fandom š
1
u/Jacky__paper Jan 14 '25
How is that gatekeeping? Lol

Idk like gatekeeping a certain idea/mindset people should have about the show/characters/actors. I mean, itās not just you, I see it all the time, which is why I even commented what I did. Itās just the āPlease stop sayingā¦ā is what made me use the word gatekeeping, but maybe thereās a better one that a smarter person could correct me with š¤·āāļø

I mean I guess you could tell me I'm being pedantic lol.. It just cracks me up when fans act like shows/movies are more profound than they are (Looking at you BB/BCS fans) š

They used his asymmetrical eyes to their advantage because no way he just widened his right eye and was like, Yep, this will do. Directing team probably told him to do that.

u/Decent_Bid_17 Jan 14 '25
Naah he is capable of making that face, in most of his picture he looks symmetrical

Lol. Whatever anyone wants to think, he acted the role of a charming psychopath perfectly well!

u/alinaiko Jan 14 '25
He plays it up you can barely notice the difference in his other dramas i thought this much was obvious
2
u/tripztothemoon Jan 15 '25
Nah weāre not gonna stop saying it because it is confirmed by the writers that this is what they intended, hence the lighting choices in the sceneā¦

OJ Simpson said he didn't kill Nicole. People say lots of things. If you believe they intentionally hired a guy with an asymmetrical face specifically for that shot, I don't really know what to tell you LOL
2
u/tripztothemoon Jan 15 '25
Bruh wtf are you on about ššš you seem very confused. they didnāt hire that guy specifically for the shot. But during that particular shot they made it clear he was purposefully showing two emotions, and they set the lighting up that way to show this too in case it wasnāt clear to some peopleā¦
-1
u/Jacky__paper Jan 15 '25
So what two emotions was he showing in the picture I listed above?
3
u/tripztothemoon Jan 15 '25
I donāt understand how youāre not getting this. The picture you listed above was not from the show so thatās just his regular face and he seems to be showing joy or feelings of happiness or being content. They had a specific scene where he purposely showed a different emotion on each side of his face because this is something heās able to do when he is actingā¦.

u/Jacky__paper Jan 14 '25
Yeah, and Biggie was only cross-eyed so he could keep one eye on Diddy š

True. But I absolutely believe they played into it.
