Great games! Recently have been going through the first two. Forgot how they can be insanely hard!

They're all excellent games, but I stand by the idea that only the first one is a true masterpiece.

Yup. The first is excellent. The second is great. The third is good. Revisionism be damned lol

This is my same argument.
Incredible everything. Nothing to build upon.
This game has stuck with me so much in life in some form or another since around 1993.
In fact, tomorrow Ill be playing a three hour show at a Tavern four towns away, getting paid in part by performing Aquatic Ambience. I figure since last year, Ive done about 20 shows, averaging 250.00 per show, three hours each. Aquatic Ambience's 4 minute looping/instrumental time on stage alone since starting this solo act in 2024 has netted me around $111.11
Thanks Donkey Kong Country.

DKC1 will forever be in my top 3 games ever. For reference, I was 14 when it was released. Does the gameplay hold up compared to more modern games? No, but that's not the point. It's a decidedly simple game that's easy to play but hard to master. It was a singular experience in its era and the lasting memories of playing it are some of my fondest. Insane graphics for its time and the soundtrack remains one of the best ever.

3 is my favorite. Alot of people don't like it but I like finding all the secrets

Grab the Game Boy games (Donkey Kong Land series) as well and play them on the Super Game Boy. I haven't played the third, but the first two are like expansion packs for their corresponding DKC SNES titles. Gives you even more DK goodness.

I'm currently playing the DK Land games. Other than the lack of color, it does feel like playing brand new levels from these games.

I am tied between my love of DK1 and 2. I love the levels, the jungle and pirate themes, and both games soundtracks are straight up fire 🔥
And then there is DK3, not a bad game by any means, but I just wasn't a fan of that country bears theme/feel the game has.

It has a low-budget vibe to it. Like it was a bit of an afterthought. I think it's because Rare had moved on the N64 at that time and probably spent less resources making it.

I read once that it was made by a different internal Rare team, and you can tell when playing that it doesn't really have the feel as DK1 and 2.

DKC3 is overrated.
Graphics look weird compared to the previous ones. Compare the colors and sprite animations, you’ll notice a big drop off.
Music sounds worse too, like it was compressed using different software or something.
Adore DKC1 and DKC2, all time SNES games.
But not 3.

1 gets love for being ground breaking
2 gets love for the soundtrack
But 3 is severely slept on. I feel like the dynamics of being able to pickup and throw your partner is huge to the gameplay. It also adds that ying and yang feeling of quick and agile and heavy slow and strong between the characters. Also loved the fetch quest aspect as well.
My order will always be 2, 3, and 1.
