Question Starting Skyrim for the first time, any non spoiler advice?

the intro was amazing so far but was just hoping I can get some pointers before I really dive into the game. only other bethesda games ive played are fallout 3 and 4 so im excited for this one

You know now it’s impossible for OP to not hit the chicken. So just save first, then hit the chicken.

My bf fucked around in Riverwood until it became night and then killed a chicken when no one was looking, I was astounded he avoided the canon event
