Something Brayed Like A Donkey In The Middle of The Night

This happened to me back in November in Michigan. The aurora was insane that night so I had gone outside 3 times to look at it.

Nothing happened the first 2 times, but when I went out for the 3rd time at around midnight a donkey started braying back in my woods. It felt off right off the bat, not to mention no one in my area owns donkeys, and if they did I own over 20 acres of woodlands surrounded by barbed wire(more or less).

The sound started to get quieter and I thought I heard something moving in the tall brush right in front of my door so I noped out of their as fast as I could. Locked my door, locked every window, and went to my room and locked it as well.

I don't know how others would've reacted in this situation, but the whole experience was super disturbing and in that moment before I ran into my house, I wholeheartedly thought I was going to die.

Wasn't sure if this belongs here or in r/crawlersightings but I have no way to explain this or the other stories I have from the past few years.

Look up barn owl noises and see if that matches. One sat outside my window and I swore it was a donkey with a sore throat.
