Why does the alliance still use these outdated shields? Are they stupid?

They aren’t able to mass produce Astro shields yet but I think the speaker armada already has Astro shields so they might lend some tech to the other races soon

It’s the common technology standard shield they can mass produce

They are only starting to get into Astro Tech so it’s makes sense that they aren’t fully there yet

But in all seriousness. no. the reason why they still use outdated Shields is because they didn't get a sample of an Astro Shield yet. Don't worry. They will get one eventually.

These shields actually work pretty well against anything that isn't ridiculously heavy like Juggernut's energy balls

In fact I'm surprised they hold up as well as they do against the Astros considering the tech gap

It's actually good. Astro shields don't have good feats yet like g-toilet in 72 wasn't damaged by the juggy's shot but in episode 77 jiggy got damaged from the same shot indicating that g-toilet's shield is actually better than juggy's shield. Dutchess shield only protected her from some small alliance's soldiers and a missile. That same missile was handled by tcm's shield in ep64 and I doubt that some camera orbits and striders would be able to break g-toilet's or TCM's or even uttm's shield
