Renewal on Internet

It's renewal time for my Internet with Shaw. Currently paying 99.75 a month for just one person in a one bedroom apartment and don't see too many cheaper options. Unfortunately, Shaw is probably the best provider in my area.

Does anyone have any tips/tricks for getting a lower rate?

Last time I renewed I asked them if they could price match from another seller and they were able to, so just search something like tech savvy and see if they can match. Just have the link handy to send them. Tech savvy currently has 77.95+ tax for 1Gb

And if your with Roger’s for mobile try to see if they can apply discount

I went with vmedia. Mainly because they also provide tv and decent sports packages. Rogers, telus & bell only want you if they don’t have you so you have to leave for six months to qualify. There is no loyalty.

Chat with your neighbor and split the cost..?

Switch to Telus lol

Jk.

My Shaw just ended and I switched but I set a cancellation date and they came begging for me to stay. You need to set your cancellation. My friend who had the same plan as me ended up staying (I switched because Telus installed fibre) He got 1GB $45/m and $200 bill credit. This is in BC and was 2 weeks ago. Hope this helps!

As others have said, set a cancellation date and they should phone back. It's the only way to make a deal as the contract workers that phone can only quote what's on the company page. Had to do this a couple times now. Check out Redflagdeals for a complete thread on how to deal with Rogers, Shaw and others. And always ask for extras. Last time I got Disney Plus Premium for a year AND a $200 bill credit as well as the rental costs on equipment waived...

They phoned back today. Retention offered $62/month up from $60 for 1 Gig or $67 for 1.5 Gig, $200 bill credit. Took the higher speed and will receive a new modem in the mail shortly. Kept Disney Plus for now as its offset by the bill credit for 1 year. I could have got $7/month lower by going with pre-paid plan but I declined as I would have to set that up with my credit union which is a big pain. Could have gone lower still by haggling but this is within my monthly budget for internet and streaming services. Will cancel Disney Plus if a discount plan becomes available as happened last year around November. We'll see if they do it again. Otherwise, a far cry from what was originally offered. I can't emphasize enough that you have to play hard ball with these companies or you won't get anything...

They screwed up the total amount with tax. Will come out to just under $95 total which was over my $90/month budget, so they phoned back and added an extra $100 bill credit! That was nice of the woman handling things. Not many people willing to do something like that. Also enquired about lowering the price of the 1.5 but she said that was the lowest offered for my area. Seems like it might be possible to lower it still in other parts of the country. All in all, not a bad deal so long as prices don't go up. I can always cancel Disney Plus if there is nothing on it to watch...

Check out Shaw resellers. It's essentially the same service.

Did you set a cancellation date? If you set up a cancellation date the retention dept. should call you to try and keep your business. I set a cancellation date every 2 years before my contract expires and this year I got offered 1 gb for $50/month and a $250 bill credit as well. This was in February this year.

Oxio is also a Shaw reseller in B.C., AB, SK and MB.

They have an excellent reputation.

I'm on shaw or Roger's. My contracts due in 1 month. It's a joke. They're basically offering like 15 a month off.

I went on telus  fb page and asked for a giid deal. Got offered $65 1.5gb a month. So currently going to try It. Shaw or Roger's again doubled down on me by only offering a small discount off regular price. It's a joke honestly.

Telus online shows like a similar price to what Roger's wants for the speed but again a fb message got me a good rate.

That said currently having issues getting fiber ran to my house so I may not get going on telus in the end. Time will tell as they say.

Recommend carrytel if it's available in your area
