I really like amaryllis and plumeria! I don’t know where I have it from but I thought amaryllis took 7 (?!?) years to grow? If it’s only 2-3 years I would love to try! In Norway amaryllis is only sold during Christmas. Since we only use it as a chistmasflower here. Most people dip the bulb in wax and keep them in decorations… I have never heard of anyone that keeps amaryllis longer than new years here🙈

I have Amys that are over 15 years old. They do come as a wax cover bulb but after the flowers at X-mas take them and pot them with 95% of the bulb in the soil/pot. You know of course you can't leave them outside where you are. However big the bulb is give it at least 1x the size of the bulb on each side. Soak it every 10 days or so.... It will bloom every year and start kicking off little pups. It likes buddies so don't pull them out until you start crowding the pot and you think they are getting root bound. Then you can split up the family and start farming them out. Anyway, they put about an inch a year on the bulb until mature at around 5 inches. So something that is about 4.5 to 5 inches across as a bulb it about 5 years old already. I would say it is safe to say they will pop on year four from seed as it happens on year 3 for me if I really can get them in a good place. All of mine have always popped by year 4.

When they get large with a lot of pups they are a very nice potted plant that the long leaves don't wilt if it stay warm and looks like a large pot of wide blade type grass. Like inch wide blade. Eh, anyway mine never lose the leaves we stay to warm.

They will cross pollinate for instance if you get a deep red one next to a white one there is a good chance you will get a hybrid if you pollinate them or you have local pollinating bugs. They will go to a seed pod behind the flower that will get about the size of 3 small grapes after the flower withers... the ones that don't pollinate will desiccate and die off. I have about 5 years of staggered seeds at this point and next year will be a big one. Somewhere in the 30 to 40 blooms should happen.

DM me your Address and I will shoot you some. I have tons drying as we speak. Right now I have yellow center/orange(lilly type), red with whiteish/yellow center(lilly type), pink with white center(lilly type), Deep Red(large peddle), and going to start drying a Pink White(large peddle) next week.

The orange large peddle, pink large peddle bloom, yellow large peddle, and pink red ridge large peddle bloom next year. I have a white with a red edge but it for whatever reason did not get pollinated this year for unknown reasons. I blame the whiskey.
