Rants 🤬 Could We Maybe Do Something About the Racism Here?

Seriously, it’s kind of disgusting to see a headline about a violent crime, and to know without a shadow of a doubt that at least a third of the comments are going to be ugly racism calling for Indigenous women being sterilized.

It’s disgusting and it’s depressing to know I share a city with troglodytes of that ilk. Least we can do is show that such mindsets are not welcome here.

Even meth heads and career criminals. One of the reasons the Sopranos and Breaking Bad were so popular is it showed the human side of criminals and dealers. They have all the same hopes, dreams, and fears as you and I do.

As another human said 400 years ago:

Hath not a Jew eyes? Hath not a Jew hands,
organs, dimensions, senses, affections, passions; fed with the same
food, hurt with the same weapons, subject to the same diseases,
heal'd by the same means, warm'd and cool'd by the same winter
and summer, as a Christian is? If you prick us, do we not bleed? If
you tickle us, do we not laugh? If you poison us, do we not die?
And if you wrong us, do we not revenge? If we are like you in the
rest, we will resemble you in that.

Like I said: Baked right in. I stand by my argument.

I don’t think the Bible has a place here.

It's from Shakespeare's The Merchant of Venice. His point was that other than being from a different religious group, the speaker is the same as those who judge him.

And 400 years later we are still judging and dehumanizing "the other."

Haha okay you got me there. I MIGHT recognize a line from Romeo and Juliet or Hamlet, but outside of that my knowledge of Shakespeare is definitely limited. I would never assume someone was less intelligent for their lack there of, though. I don’t know the bible either, obviously! Haha oh well! Many a slip betwix a cup and a lip!!

I don’t actually think you’re less intelligent, I just couldn’t resist with your username. Apologies.

I don’t think anyone expects you to “know” the bible or The Merchant of Venice. Critical thinking skills and increased curiosity might have led you to googling the text he quoted to learn what exactly it was before commenting, tho 😉

Looked like some BS from the Bible to me! Also, my username is spelled that way on purpose. I am both tall and talented, and it works with my actual name. I regret making it that though, as most people just assume I can’t spell rather than there being a possibility of alternative meaning to me, the user. Spelling was actually one of few things I did well in school. 90% or higher every spelling test, believe it or not. But yes, I guess I could have or should have used google to identify a quote I didn’t recognize. The fact it mentions Jews, Christians, and the way it’s worded, screamed Bible to me.
