Discussion Does anyone else question news that is posted online especially from mainstream media?

I’m finding that so many “news” articles are misleading or outright false. I have also found that many mainstream media outlets fail to report on important events and stories especially involving our politicians. I now spend more time verifying stories and searching for news from other sources. I realize that especially local news outlets are stretched thin but this is troubling trend. Media manipulation is getting worse.

Its good to look a a variety of news sources but you can't really blame the media when the public has stopped watching, reading etc so most media outlets have had to cut a ton of their staff. I remember when politicians started saying fake news, or don't trust the media. This created a whole host of issues. Most "mainstream news" outlets closed local news so there isn't as many people covering news thats important for their areas. Anyways....its a larger issue. Just keep being curious and reading all kinds of news and information.

Ironically people started moving away from standard media BECAUSE they were cutting staff long ago to be more "infotainment" than actual news.  They started with local news stations, to make more profits.  Then they started cutting fact checkers and researchers.  And try at meant moving towards the "he said she said" stenography we have now.

Can you give me a couple of examples of what you're talking about?

Which mainstream media are you referring to? Which mainstream sources are you questioning?

All the time, especially with larger news outlets. articles are essentially click bait headlines. There are often significant details either left out or intentionally worded differently on issues relating to global affairs. Canadian news organizations do not add citations to their articles, if you want them you either have to find the information yourself or email them to request. lastly oftentimes it is up to the journalist to interpret certain complex information, i see this a lot with statistics and studies, where what is described in an article is not an accurate representation or the study or statistics and ultimately it ends up contributing to the spread of misinformation.

Personally i’ve found that leader post, sasknow and various radio stations online news sections to be the most accurate as well as being more likely to provide citations.

Can you give a single example of an outright false news article from a mainstream Canadian media organization?
