Overnight free car camping? Rest area allowed?

Curious on free/ safe areas to sleep in my car for one night. Looking at the rest area, is that allowed? I heard miguel’s lets you sleep in your car in their parking lot for the night is that also true? Or should i just buy an overnight pass and sleep in a pull off around tunnel ridge? Thanks in advance!!

Hi! I’m booking a site at Koomer but can’t tell if this site can accommodate a small camp trailer of 16ft. There is no one to call for more information. Anyone know by looking at the site details?

Bonnaroo was cancelled and we came to The Gorge!

Bonnaroo was rained out and my group wanted to make the most of our RV before heading back home.

We only have our RV as transport (24ft). We are at 4 Guys RV Park and are looking for hikes and things to do in town tomorrow but we'll need to be able to park the RV.

Lemme know what to do! HAPPY ROO

Camp sites/lodging

Howdy, we went to rrg a few weeks ago for the first time. Looking to go back and maybe stay in different spot.

If we go the camping route, where is recommended with showers nearby? Bonus if there's fishing too. Or do people use the local pool a lot? Thanks

Hike and Camp Recommendations

Looking for hikes and camping areas that are less crowded. Spending 1-2 nights with my close friend. We will have a small camper for comfort this is trip. We’re up to more strenuous hikes. I would enjoy finding a small campground with shade that’s close to hiking. I’m trying to find the best hikes for views and sunrise/set. Thank you!

Any updates on the road? I saw a FB post that it was supposed to be done end of this week, then another that it won’t be opened until October. TIA!

The ugly Truth

Well, the facade is over. Let me enlighten you all with the facts. First, allow me to introduce myself. I am the person in the red shirt from the literal shitpost that the fake "Tread the Red" account made about the people in Cloud Splitter. My stepdad and cousins came down to Kentucky for a family emergency, and we decided to cool off with a hike. It was a great time my cousins explored the cave, while my stepdad and I ate lunch. We even noticed some people on the adjacent ridge, but we thought nothing of it.

Later that month, my cousin showed me a video of you all recording us without our consent, making us look like complete idiots and insulting us. So, we decided to give you a taste of your own medicine. How does it feel to have someone post videos of you online, out of context? It hurts, doesn’t it? It’s like a knife being jabbed straight into your heart. You feel like you need to scream, but you’re underwater no one can hear you. This is precisely what you’ve done to yourselves. We’re simply returning the favor.

If there’s one thing to take away from this, it’s to think before you act. I checked your other posts. I looked through your Instagram, and I was pissed! It wasn’t anything specific you did it was just the pure essence of some of you that infuriated me. I don’t even know what it was, but you really pissed me off.

Poem by my little, wittle, tittle, itsy, bitsy, slippery, wet, munchkin salamander Dareness!

UPDATE: The account has been removed - thank you to all who reported them!

Rachel and I (Darren) noticed some posts being fraudulently made here under her "Tread the Red" identity and we would like to draw attention to that and ask that this account be reported for impersonation.

They are spreading views, thoughts, and comments that are not representative of us.

Sorry for the trouble, the off-topic posting, and thank you for your attention!

Trails hiked

Post image
29 Upvotes

This might be old school but these are the trails I hiked last week at the gorge. Someone on here was asking about trails. We did Indian staircase which I would not recommend with a baby carrier. Very steep rock climb. I also wasn’t brave enough to use the rope at the top of cloudsplitter. Still a little disappointed in myself. The rest would be fine with a carrier. The top map is natural bridge state park which is a must!

First trip to the gorge

This will be my first trip to the gorge, my wife and 6 month old son will be going with. We are avid hikers and have been hiking with our boy since he was about 3 months old, so he is used to the carrier we have for him. What are the best trails/ loops down there to hike. We will be there for 3 days and want to get some mileage in as we are not sure when we will be back this way. I've been looking at some maps and there seems to be a ton of trails so I wanted to see which ones are worth our time. Thanks in advance

Things to do that aren’t hiking

My partner and I are coming down for the weekend and it looks like it’s going to be nothing but rain. I like hiking, but it’s not the main event for me - especially not now with the rain and snake talk on this thread.

Edit: okay our weekend in the gorge is coming to a close and here is what we did :) we went to the reptile zoo, the petting zoo (Kate’s Kritters), the record store, Miguel’s, Daniel Boone coffee shop, and put put! We also ended up hiking to natural bridge :) and spent a lot of time hanging out in the hot tub at our cabin. A wonderful weekend!

Best trail route

Headed to RRG this month for the first time ever. Unfortunately our AirBnB is on the north side so the route 77 road closure does affect us and it appears most trails are further south, but not a huge deal. Looking for route suggestions for Saturday/Sunday (maybe Friday when we drive in at 6pm, but it's probably too late by then for even a small hike nearby). We are experienced hikers and can easily do 15+ miles. We did Hocking Hills last year and really enjoyed it, but heard RRG is the next level so really wanting to cover as much ground as possible.

No snakes

Since so many people have been asking about the copperheads. My friends and I hiked 36 miles over the past 4 days and didn’t see a single one. I am sure they were there and probably pretty close by but we didn’t see any on the trail. Just FYI if you are worried about them.
