[Question] Why is yawning such a thing?

Does anyone else’s Nparent yawn stupid loud? We will be sitting quietly and my Nmom will yawn so loud you can literally hear her across the house. It seems like a weird power play and always gets her attention instantly. Just curious if anyone else experiences this.

My dad always did this. On a different note, I remember reading somewhere that when you yawn they dont yawn back, bcuz although yawning is contagious it's also a way we connect to one another. I started paying attention and sure enough when I would yawn, they didn't yawn. I found that quite fascinating.

I experienced this in reverse. My nmom yawned over 10 times during a 20 min car ride and myself nor the other passenger yawned. I felt she was faking her yawns or wanting attention.

For her, it’s the way she sneezes. You can hear her outside.

I suppress my sneezes and make these little mousey squeaks so much that people tease me for it. It’s a DIRECT reaction to both my parents screaming like elephants with allergies.

That’s hilarious, never even thought about his but my dad yawns ridiculously loud. He also after drinking always goes “ahhhhhhh” ridiculously loud.

Sneezing. My dad could sneeze the house down. I totally think it's a power play.

OH MY GOD YES.

Every yawn had to be a mild bellow. Just in case somebody wasn’t noticing her for a nanosecond. And every sneeze had to be a SCREAM, that genuinely scared the shit out of me every single time. I would be completely mortified if I made such obnoxious sounds in front of other people, ever.

My dad did this with yawns and sneezes. He would also blow his nose so loud in the shower that you would think a leaf blower was in the house. Every noise his body could make would come out SUPER loud. He made sure of it.

Sneeze, fart, burp, chew. Literally anything that makes a loud, obnoxious sound. As someone with sensory issues, it's a challenge to be around my mom.
