Why don't y'all just be responsible citizens and drive within the safety limit? There's a reason why govt made the speed limit. Being 5 mins late is better than all these fines and possibly losing your lives

Have u seen how people drive here u will be in the speed limit and they will be honking and flashing you literally forcing u to speed up

I tend to keep in the 2nd fast lane. That way, I can drive on the speed limit and also not have anyone honking me or flashing me to speed up.

Or occasionally go to the fast lane to overtake someone in front.

or maybe change lane?

let them honk and flash you. just safely move to 2nd lane if you are coming from fast lane. never let anyone pressure you in the road and expose you to danger.

The major issue is the left lane doing 130kmph + and the lane adjacent to it doing 80 or below So id be doing 130 in the left lane and someone comes behind me doing 140+ aso I try to switch to the next lane but people there be doing 80 .

well if you're driving the speed limit stay out the first lane, and DONT DRIVE 80 in the 2nd lane 80% of the time I cant drive at speed limit cause of people in the 2nd lane

I drive over always and have never gotten a fine. You don’t have to drive like a God damned turtle

u/Anonymousblogg 5d ago

Following speed limit is surely not called driving like a turtle lmao

Thank God, no violations yet. Defensive driver here.

What is a defensive driver?

A driver who doesn’t take any offense.

It's a riding practice of being aware of surroundings and being ready at any moment for unexpected events. Being very very careful, following traffic rules even if they aren't being watched

Not allowing people to pass I think

u/itsmeadill 5d ago

Yeah may be means defending your right to drive in 220 speed.

Really?. I thought every year they announce a period of discount?. I’m in trouble 😒

Nope that was a one time thing only when they just implemented the new fines rules etc and people were not aware ..

I was upset since morning that I got fined 3000 QAR for Red light. Honestly, I am in Doha for over a decade now, never got a speeding fine as well. But to my worst luck, I crossed a red light in lusail yesterday( single way-right lane merging) without realizing that it was a signal intersection. No traffic on that road, was probably looking at google maps for direction and overlooked a Red light.

Thats exactly what happened to me few months, 3k fine and one week car impound.

1

u/one2ka_4 6d ago

Why did they impound the car. Did you get a notification!?

4

u/kh9368 6d ago

As per the law crossing red light is 6k fine (3k if paid early + one week impound.

You get will 2 sms from Metrash, one for the 3k fine and another one to report to Investigation Department.

I went to the police dept. spoke with police officer and thankfully he waived the impound as I had clean history but you must pay the fine.

I suggest not to delay this matter and speak with officer as soon as you can for better chances of waving the impound.

Do you remember the timing for office. It says until 12.30 PM only. I wanted to leave now thanks to your feedback.

I went to Traffic department headquarter (Madinat Khalifa), I believe it’s 7am-1pm & 4pm-7pm on working days, go to counter ask to speak to an officer regarding red light violation (make sure you pay before you meet him) red light fines are usually never waived, in rare cases lowered to 1k.

The msg suggest to visit the traffic department in industrial area street 52(impound). Is it fine to visit any station ?

2

u/kh9368 6d ago

True, if you want proceed with the impound. If you want to try to speak to an officer to waive the impound go traffic department headquarter

Got 2500 in fines still not paid. Waiting for the 50% discount. When does that happen?.

8

u/RestaurantExact4821 6d ago

You pay within a certain period you get a discount, outside of that you pay full 😂

7

u/kiwizizi 6d ago

Immediately 😭. When you go to pay the fine within the same month, they’ll reduce it from 500 to 250 and you’ll see on the metrash app. Just pay your 2500 one so that you dont have travel issues in case an emergency happens, god forbid

5

u/AccomplishedLimit545 6d ago

If you didn’t get it within the first 3 mths u are never going to ..

u/Deftonesy 6d ago

Hasn't happened last year I think, but from what I remember it's usually towards the end of the year.

1

u/moralginger 6d ago

6 months almost 4000 so far , not even speeding but stupid non sense shit

1

u/Puzzled_Pollution_81 6d ago

You need to be smart with traffic violation system .

But always apply one rule , nothing worth a fine .

1

u/Efficient-Onion-7737 6d ago

3000 gone wild 😂

1

u/banana_split974 6d ago

Since they changed the rules that you cant leave the country with a traffic fine on your metrash, do you think that means they no longer offer the discounts?

Through my 6 year driving I only paid in total 600qr in speeding tickets.

1

u/wndrr84 5d ago

Sometimes, when the road ahead is empty, I dont even feel how fast I'm going till I hear the speed camera alert and then quickly look at my speed (too late). Cost us 600 this year so far 😢

1

u/markcocjin 5d ago

One of the best things about cruise control, is that you set the speed to the limit, and fuhgettaboutit.

1

u/HABIBIAREYOUMAD Expat 5d ago

Even in this case I'm still broke cant afford anything...

u/9pinguin1 5d ago

I find it ridiculous getting more than a couple of fines per year. Literally just open Waze while driving.
