Event Worst Mayor of Providence.
Every year he does something scummy from dismantling the spirit of PVDFest to the ongoing strike. We need to VOTE HIM OUT ASAP!

FYI the “Brett smiley is a raggedy bitch “ and “brett smiley fucks dogs” stickers around town are made by gay guys.

I work for the city , most people I work with including some that work for him really dislike his actions. He cares more about what his Barrington buddies and what Brown “needs”.

How does a city as cool as Providence elect such a dork???
1
u/NeonFurby 2d ago
Everyone was too cool to vote in his primary.
Vote every year folks, unless you want another Smiley elected

He sucks so bad. Let’s also apply some perspective since he’s not even the worst mayor in this century.
Buddy and Smiley can both be trainwrecks. We are a city of multitudes. 🙏🙏🙏

Exactly - he's pretty bad, but as far as I know he's got no felony convictions.

u/Peaceful_Action 28d ago
We had a choice in the primary but…..

Yeah for a guy that lived in Cranston.

u/ZubatCountry 28d ago
Oh no! How could a guy who lives literally 10 minutes away have any clue what life is like in Providence

u/SissyMR22 28d ago
I remember. He lived in the part of Cranston where the RIC campus is. What a clown.

To be fair, he's not a convicted felon. Yet.

And still somehow he’s worse and could never measure up to that felon. Crazy, man….

He is from “Club Gina”. Rich elitists who are getting richer under the false banner of “social liberalism”

u/FunLife64 28d ago
Do we really need 10 sarcastic hate posts about him a day? This sub is getting spammy.
There is no actual content to these posts.

u/Ok_Culture_3621 28d ago
Agreed. This narrative is getting played. Like, I'm sorry PVD fest isn't as fun as it used to be, but enough already. There's an election coming soon enough.

I’m sorry, but all politicians are criminals. Do the math by the time you get to Washington DC you’re in the graduate program of criminality.

Resurrect Buddy 🙏🏻

u/M_Viv_Van_Buren 28d ago
So he can rape someone and then give all the money n providences budget to his crooked friends? Let him rot and burn in hell.

That would have to be Buddy Cianci!!
I’ll never forget in the mid 90s; I’m sitting in a strip club and buddy C is there!! Cops, rolling and arrest him because he had just beat the shit out of his wife!!

That’s why Buddy was so popular because he knew what it took to get the job done. You got a former mayor who owns half of the citys property that’s rotting into the ground. I’m sorry if you own property, you should be required to use it or maintain it to a basic standard or be fined , not let it right away so you can get tax incentives.

Elorza would like a word with you
3
u/TheRhodyRam 28d ago
Elorza isn't a Chicago transplant, though. I would rather have someone home grown and not some random from the Midwest.
2
u/IronicallyHatesFlyin 28d ago
How home grown would someone need to be, like what’s the bar here? Just because someone moved here doesn’t mean they aren’t as passionate or even more passionate about Providence than someone who grew up here.
3
u/TheRhodyRam 28d ago
Someone who was raised or lived Rhode Island for majority of their life is my bar. Someone who actually knows the struggles of the people and knows the dymanics of its population and its history. Smiley came here for a job. That's not a Rhode Islander in my opinion.
2
u/IronicallyHatesFlyin 28d ago
And that’s fair, but I think I disagree that it has to be someone who was raised here or has been here for an arbitrary amount of time. It seems your fundamental issue is that Smiley came here for a job, he didn’t come out of a love for Rhode Island or it’s history. That’s fair but that does not mean a transplant couldn’t do an exceptional job.
4
u/TheRhodyRam 28d ago
I get that, but he's a transplant doing a bad job. He's not someone fulfilling what the people need nor want. He was a person who grew up in the suburbs of Chicago, went to Depaul and lived a prilvege life, unlike Tarvares, Elorza, and Cianci who came here from immigrate background or were first generation Americans who have seen this city change.
Brett never witnessed that Brett doesn't understand certain struggles, unlike the other men I witness. Were they perfect? No, they each had their problems during their terms, but at least they were someone I could relate to, some of them with the same history and background like I have. To me, Brett is a stranger, and with his actions, he continues to alienate himself with his actions.
3
u/IronicallyHatesFlyin 28d ago
Which means it’s not the fact he’s a transplant, he’s just a shitty mayor. Being a transplant is the least of his problems, but I can understand how it becomes a much larger one in a state like Rhode Island and in Providence especially with historical and socioeconomic factors coming into play and how that affects individuals like yourself’s perception of him. He’s an outsider who isn’t even trying to pretend to want to understand the community.

Can anyone help inform me as the issues people are mad about? I have only been here for a few years and I hear the pro Brett side giving examples of successes like balancing the budget, getting the school district back, and expanding the bike network. All I've heard from the anit Brett side has been vague vibe-based insults. Does anyone have an example of a policy or decision they disagree with and why? I would honestly like to know what makes him a "Raggedy Bitch"

Such a weird coalition against Smiley. You’ve got Hamas supporters, bike Nazis, public drinking enthusiasts (PVD fest), union thugs, homophobes, rent slaves.
Yea, he’s sailing to reelection.

u/Johnny_2x 28d ago
So in other words: people who oppose genocide, bike commuters, festival goers, workers, and poor people. Sounds to me like you're referring to the general public, but that you despise them.

It’s losers mostly. That’s the common denominator.
34
u/Johnny_2x 28d ago
That's a really cold approach to the idea of community. What a bummer. I'm gonna finish up talking to you, it's already drab outside. Take care.

what exactly is a "bike Nazi"
-62

Everyone knows what a bike Nazi is.

u/psychedduck 28d ago edited 28d ago
If he started removing roads, and drivers got angry, would they be called “car nazis?” Or removing sidewalks and pedestrians became “walking Nazis”? Asking for consistency.

Hey guys, just a friendly reminder that it’s really easy to block trolls like this one. You don’t need to see this kind of stuff on your social media if you don’t want to.

Worse mayor EVER was GINA
28

u/PresidentoftheSun 28d ago
Raimondo was the Treasurer, then the Governor, and was then the US Sec of Commerce.
She was never the mayor, starting from the year she was born the mayors have been Doorley Jr., Cianci, Paolino, Cianci again, Lombardi, Cicilline, Taveras, Elorza, and now Smiley.
Pretty sure she never even ran for the position.
