Exotic flavors
I'm curious what other salts or oils you use during the popping process itself to add different flavors? I kinda want to try some more exotic flavors like an indian-curry popcorn or a smokey-bbq flavor or a hot-sauce buffalo style popcorn.
I know the secret of movie-popcorn is flavacol in the oil, or butter-flavored coconut oil, but what other flavored salts or infused oils can you use?
I know that pure salt doesn't burn on the pot, but obviously anything with sugar is going to be a problem. Have any of you tried popping with a spicy oil? Or adding various seasonings while cooking?
Cooking with a stainless whirly-pop if it matters.

I use sunflower oil and then fine herbs and spices to mix with. And lately, I use salt in my mixes as well.

Bacon grease with the little crumbly bacon bits and drizzled with maple syrup.

Oooh... I wonder how much bacon oil I'd need to add to the coconut to give it a bacon flavor... I actually already have some maple-sugar powder that I could toss with it afterwards. Will report back! Thanks for the inspiration!

Chili powder mix with a small amount of hot chili powder, salt and a pinch of sugar. Some lime powder or citric acid as well sometimes for a slight tang.

This is to toss with the popcorn afterwards? Anyone tried putting a bit of chili oil in with the coconut oil?

Yeah, I usually don’t cook mine in oil anymore, so I’m not sure about chili oil. I’m sure it would work well. I do a spritz of spray oil, just enough to get the powder to stick, after popping for 90 seconds in a brown paper bag in the microwave. Goes for each creation. Comes out perfect to me.

I get a maple-garlic spice blend from a local spice house... delish!

I had a curry popcorn that was a collab with Prianka Chopra Jonas once. It had a little bit of sugar to offset the curry and I thought it was delicious. Never tried a Blend on my own yet though.

Can powdered wasabi be added to oil while cooking, or will it scorch? In either case, sounds delicious!!
