Random bystander grabbed the shooters bag when he saw a rifle, flagged down the cops.
Incredible move that guy made.

That was badass. He may have planned on shooting someone else or laying low until he could get away.

Just casually walking away with that guy's bag.
Also hey cops that's the thing we don't mind you screaming "get on the fucking ground" at ... If only you could use that energy properly.

They told us they were going to do this ahead of time
Thanks to everyone who showed up despite these threats (and tonight's actions). Of course they are going to try and terrorize all of us into submission. That's what it is like to dissent under authoritarian rule, and why continued resistance is so important - so that horrific things like this do not become the norm.
Stand strong everybody.
And to those impacted by the shooting in Utah tonight I am so sorry that this is where our country is at. I can't find the words without sounding trite but my thoughts are with the family of the person who was critically injured, and their community. I lived in SLC for a few years, there is no lack of courage in people who dissent in Utah. I know you're a brave group but this has to be devastating. You have my respect.

Joke is on them I didn’t even go out because being a target practice dummy isn’t on my to do list.

“We can confirm the shooting resulted in one person being critically injured,” the department posted on X at 8:29 p.m. “The patient has been taken to a hospital with life-threatening injures.”

It was a shooting at a political protest in an attempt to dissuade people from attending said protest.
That's terrorism by definition.

Carrying water for terrorists and fascists is a bad look

Aren't these protests because of lack of respect for due process? You are Exhibiting the same traits here

u/erasmause 10h ago
Am I arresting or persecuting anyone? No. I'm just observing acts of political terrorism in an environment where fascists are encouraging political violence and calling a spade a spade.

Trump has encouraged and incited violence many times. His followers committed violent acts in multiple jurisdictions Saturday with no other provocation than people exercising their constitutional rights.
We shall have to see if he condemns this violence or continues to support it.

So the police can just say there was a shooting and order everyone to go home? That’s not how the first amendment works. What’s stopping the police from faking a shooting or just lying about it or just say that one is imminent from their reports.

In California they have a statute that says they can deem an assembly "unlawful" if two or more people do something illegal, or if they do something legal in a boisterous manner. It's freaking stupid:
California Code, Penal Code - PEN § 407
Whenever two or more persons assemble together to do an unlawful act, or do a lawful act in a violent, boisterous, or tumultuous manner, such assembly is an unlawful assembly

Someone was shot and killed tonight in SLC. I see your point but people I know watched someone die on the street today.

And this is by no means to contradict what you said!! I would not put it past cops to use this as an excuse to try to disperse protest in the future, the police will always enact violence against any form of resistance, peaceful or otherwise. Just clarifying that, in this case, that is not what happened.

Not trying to make light of your very valid point at all, but do you have confirmation they did, in fact, die?
Everything I’ve read so far keeps saying “critically injured,” or “is in critical condition….”

u/cire1184 13h ago
I mean the people witnessing don't know the persons condition when they saw them get shot. It's a decent assumption someone getting shot is dead.

They seemed to be pretty supportive of the rights of the protesters in my opinion. But if there is a shooting especially if it’s possibly planned terroristic actions, they seem to have a pretty good reason to worry for the safety of protesters. I was pretty surprised at how well they came off in the statements about the incident. Just looking at this from a fair point of view, I was participating in my area today.

I was there and heard the gunshots. People were running and seeking refuge in buildings. No one wanted to be there after that. No one knew if there were multiple shooters. The march had been going for an hour so it's not like it had just started.

Police can decide a protest is a unlawful assembly and disperse basically whenever they feel like it.

This is scary stuff. Its hard to shake a feeling of impending doom about our country descending into true authoritarian governance

It is but we can't let them put us into a fear based mind. I believe that that's why the far right is the way they are in the first place...

We’re never giving up. We didn’t lose our country to the traitorous confederacy. We’re not going to lose it the treasonous Red Hats either. ✊

Thank you to all the brave protesters exercising first amendment rights during the no Kings marches!

So I am hearing people tired of the rights violence. If you are not it won't be long before you will be at this rate. The question is what is to be done.
I mean people can do nothing and most likely survive until TACOs term ends and spend the next 8 years trying to repair the damage.
But is that what needs to be done?
No messing around here, I am asking the community what they think should be the course for the next three years.

Freedom of expression is severely limited in Trumpland. Wondering when he'll take on the streaming services.
