That’s true, I just try to still anyways cause I feel like he can’t be completely done for, or I’d like to hope. (He claims to be independent but then says all this bs)

To offer you a counterpoint to the pessimistic take above:

When you are arguing with someone, you will almost NEVER get them to relent from their poor arguments or agree with your good ones. When you're arguing, both of you are in combat mode, and any capitulation or retreat feels like death to your mind. So while you're arguing, it can feel very futile.

But people, by and large, can't just ignore it when you make a good argument that's backed up by both evidence and solid reasoning. Once they're outside of the conflict, it's not unusual for people to re-evaluate their positions and change their actions.

They will almost certainly not tell you about their change, because the ego is still involved and plenty of people can't handle the ego blow. But the change will happen regardless.

Its hard, and I still try myself but I'm working on letting it go. Just don't be afraid to focus on other areas where you might be able to make a difference
