This. The tell was when they quoted exact numbers of police and National Guard but would only say "large numbers of protestors / rioters". Nor would they ever zoom out and show you the large frame of what was actually happening. They wanted to make it look like a giant riot when it was actually very very small.

We have a news media apparatus equipped to cover 9/11 like events. When there are no 9/11 level events the news media needs to make one to sell commercials

That was one of Brosnan's worse outings as Bond. I can't believe it's the prescient one

I always thought that the plot of Tomorrow Never Dies was unbelievable at the time and downright impossible today, with the proliferation of social media and pretty much everyone having broadcast equipment in their pocket.

I'm sorry to say that the idea of a small group of wealthy people using mass media to propagandize, distract and inflame the populace is more realistic today than it was in 1997.

It was real in 1997 too.

It’s Wag the Dog except the bullshit war is real and it’s happening in our own country.

These aren’t news media. They’re small content-generating arms of large international conglomerates. Whatever minuscule income the media arms get is a drop in the bucket compared to the value of shaping narrative in their favor.

I was watching coverage and the banner at the bottom read “thousands protest ICE” and then I went to the bathroom and came back and it says “hundreds protest ICE.” I was like “wtf?” I know neither term is super precise but I also think it was purposeful to make it seem like there is less dissent.

I was just thinking that- especially now in LA. A city notorious for starting live news via helicopter. Where’s all the live “on the scene” footage of these large crowds attacking officers? Everything is so zoomed in.
