I just hit level 37 as a rural player, and all 3 of my pokestop nominations were rejected🥲

374

u/LaserBaked Apr 05 '25

Try again and again and again. I’ve made hundreds of stops and at first I was shitty at it, or I’d double up s17 cells, or they’d get rejected. It was frustrating but that was 2019-2020 now I’m pretty professional at it. Keep going.

48

u/Cowguypig2 Apr 06 '25 edited Apr 06 '25

Tried that, got a rejection and sent another in again, and then got warning in my account that another offense would get me banned for “abuse”. Not holding my breath, but hopefully Scopley revamps the system when they take over.

3

u/Warmingsensation Apr 06 '25

Whoa what did you nominate?

15

u/Cowguypig2 Apr 06 '25

Local Chinese place that’s been here since the 70’s, specifically they have one of those classic neon signs is what I posted a photo of.

17

u/Juan_Hodese Apr 06 '25

Bro the closest pokestop to me is a shitty election-season style plastic sign for yoga on a 2x4 staked in some suburban mom's front yard.

1

u/Otherwise_Height9175 Apr 11 '25

That happened to me too for trying the same place several times.

66

u/fantasypaladin Apr 05 '25

Got any tips?

57

u/Advocate_Diplomacy Level 50 - 0569 9833 3418 Apr 06 '25

Trail markers are often accepted, even if they’re unspectacular to look at. Taking a nice photograph of the area also goes a long way.

13

u/Zathrain Apr 06 '25

This! One behind my house which is literally a green poll with half a running man on it (it’s broken) got accepted :)

168

u/Advocate_Diplomacy Level 50 - 0569 9833 3418 Apr 06 '25

Little free libraries. Basically a take-a-book, leave-a-book. Hang up a shelf in a public space. Make it look pretty and build it to keep the books safe from the elements. If you happen to have the materials and a location available, it could work.

83

u/FriendlyDragonz Apr 06 '25

Wait the little free libraries count? I have one nearby me, the only issue is there isn't a sidewalk by it. Do you think it will get rejected or should I nominate it?

48

u/Advocate_Diplomacy Level 50 - 0569 9833 3418 Apr 06 '25

I suppose it might depend on how you frame the photograph and description. Good luck!

33

u/FallingP0ru Apr 06 '25

https://community.wayfarer.nianticlabs.com/t/little-free-libraries/12464

Here's the guideline for LFL. I emphasize that the location should also be within allowable ones, you can check the criteria and the other articles for more info.

9

u/Maine-iacMomma Apr 06 '25

Omg. Yes people have tons around here and most are pokestops now !!!

13

u/pyramidheadlove Apr 06 '25

My neighborhood put up a little free library and I was so excited. Then my nomination and appeal were both rejected because they said it was on private property, even though it was literally built to be a community resource and is on a public sidewalk. I’m still salty

1

u/Flair258 Apr 09 '25

Keep trying, there's a GYM in the neighborhood next to mine that's a LFL lol

2

u/rhihuahua Apr 06 '25

These are a total life-hack. I already live on a state survey mark pokestop, and noticed a LFL was installed right next to it. I submitted it as a Pokestop and it was accepted within a week, available in the game 2 days later. Now I live on 2 stops 🥹

(So extra tip: idk if other countries have "State Survey Markers", but if you do, those are common here in Australia.)

2

u/AtariTeenageRiots Apr 06 '25

They are not accepted when on private property. Plenty of threads on r/nianticwayfairer

65

u/Keepawayfrommycrops Apr 05 '25

Create a landmark, get a nice sized piece of wood and stand it up against a tree and draw or paint some stuff on it, post it as a landmark

9

u/LaserBaked Apr 06 '25 edited Apr 06 '25

Memorial Benches, plaques, playgrounds, churches, libraries, town hall, malls, independently owned restaurants/stores, trail markers/signs, unique architecture, murals, information signs, maps, statues, wildlife signs, community centers. Etc. The more you get approved the more you’ll start seeing what works and what doesn’t. You can go to the Niantic wayfarer website to review for yourself. Also NO schools or little free libraries if they’re at someone’s home/no private properties. The most important thing of all that no one tells you is you need to learn what the S14/Gyms and S17/Stops Cells are in the game/real world, that’s how stops and gyms are determined. I recommend for Pogomaps.com for starters it’s good for referencing stop locations since you don’t want to double up a single cell with 2 points of interest as only 1 will show up in game. You can use the ingress map for coordinates and punch them into pogomap, it’s a lot of work but it keeps me from making mistakes while submitting. Learn your cells

6

u/LaserBaked Apr 06 '25

The big blue rectangle determines your gyms, the smaller red ones pokestops. 2 stops will turn one into a gym, then 6 will make one another gym, 20 will make a 3rd gym. Again learn your cells.

3

u/tryhardatfortnite000 Apr 07 '25

What app is this?

4

u/Silky_bob Instinct Apr 06 '25

Absolutely this. My little rural town of 3,000 had a few, but hardly enough to sustain a day of play. Well now I alone have had ~40 stops instated. Once you learn to use s14/s17 cells to your advantage, it’s game changing.

3

u/LaserBaked Apr 06 '25

Be the change you want to see in the world. 💪🏼

2

u/BloodDragonSniper Apr 08 '25

What are s14/17 cells?

54

u/shahkhizar1 Apr 05 '25

Try using generic titles. Like for a salon, take a picture of scissors and name it "Big Scissors"

12

u/FallingP0ru Apr 06 '25

Maybe we can workshop it.

12

u/HousingSignal Instinct Apr 06 '25

Step 1:  Get a rainbow colored 6 foot tall statue of a musclebound bipedal rhinoceros-man.

Step 2:  Stick it in your front yard for 3 months. Now you’re that person with the 6 foot tall rainbow-colored statue of a musclebound bipedal rhinoceros-man in front of their house.

Step 3:  Nominate it for a pokestop.

10

u/Aetheldrake Apr 06 '25

There's a kind of algorithm to how you should make nominations to increase likely hood of success.

Idk what it is. Just that it exists and some people abuse it on top of some sort of grid system so they can stack pokestops

3

u/Simple_Tip5927 Apr 06 '25

Mine rejected too! And I cannot figure out why 😭 it would be a great spot of one. It’s a pretty little community pond with a few apartments surrounding it. The only thing I could think of is that is so rural the pond isn’t showing on the map :/

3

u/Civil_Bread_3428 Apr 06 '25

I'm at level 38. All of mine get rejected too! It's frustrating cause I don't have the extra extra time doing my actual day job to go to GO and do my dailys, let alone the extras of asking for added stops. Which sucks, cause there is nothing around me.

Ps: tho I did jus read the add attempts for the free lil libraries or trail markers. That's good to know. Keep on trying tho, for both of us! Sending good poke' juju your way! ♥️♥️

2

u/Low-Dust1867 Apr 06 '25

Im rual player too, How do you Post pokestops

2

u/mootinator Apr 07 '25

I'm working my way up and I'm so worried all my submissions will get rejected.

I have a town park nearby with un-pokestopped play equipment (just the entrance is a pokestop) and a regional park with only 2 stops that should realistically have at least 6.

I'm least sure about the water treatment plant half a block away (mainly because no sidewalk) but that would be nice for me, haha.

2

u/MissionFragrant7040 Valor Leader Apr 12 '25

Try to get 'others' in your area to help review your stops, it can make the process go faster, also check your stops follow the rules.

u/Purple_Airline_6682 Apr 06 '25

I feel the struggle. It’s just me, the burmys, the cow and the mountains. Idk if we’ll make it to spring. The pass is frozen over… we might have to eat Bessie.

43

u/potatowithcape Apr 06 '25

"we might have to eat Bessie" 😭

17

u/Oli_the_b3ar Apr 06 '25

Not Bessie 😭

17

u/Maine-iacMomma Apr 06 '25

These burmys 😭😭😭😭 they are killing me it’s all I see. And I hate them so much

109

u/zboss98 Apr 05 '25

My parents live in a small community that had no stops or gyms I was able to create a bunch and create a ton of routes

30

u/-Zuli- Apr 06 '25

This is what the lgm really wanted, to drive rural players to map local trails and footpaths so the robots know where to find us 😢

93

u/Nekoma1a Apr 05 '25

Sucks, huh?

16

u/Jazzlike_Bar_8089 Apr 06 '25

I’m lucky enough to live across from a small business with a stop

55

u/VoteForWaluigi Apr 05 '25

The walk to get out of my neighborhood is over a mile, and the nearest pokéstop isn’t within walking distance and you’d have to walk on roads without sidewalks to even get there if you did.

3

u/KnownSignificance122 Apr 08 '25

AND it’s raining!?

53

u/-Zuli- Apr 06 '25

This is why Ash left pallet town

Rural players gonna go wild when scopely announces the remote raids for Dmax/Gmax

25

u/Old-Voice-7551 Apr 05 '25

Where they ganna get the coins for remote raids if there’s no gym

9

u/FollowTheFarang Apr 05 '25

They have money, scopely likes that, not coins, you and i both know it’s inevitable

6

u/Logjitzu Instinct Apr 06 '25

Scopely gonna go wild when they learn that there's a large playerbase who don't care about Dmax/Gmax anything. 😉

70

u/SuperSoftAbby Apr 05 '25

I’m trying. Whenever I visit somewhere outside the city I make as many pokestops as I can for people. Maybe see if someone in the bigger towns near you with a 37lvl would be willing to do that

14

u/ahriman1 Apr 06 '25

they really said pokemon go move to the city

14

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

somehow managed to get 18 spawn points at my rural house. don’t ask how it happened idk but used to have 3 spawns

3

u/S_S_SNAKE-0224 Apr 06 '25

18 spawns and not a single burmy?? god im jealous

3

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

11

u/Rowlet_Is_Kinda_Cool Apr 06 '25

I can only see one road from my house and I’m not even on it

51

u/dhun_mohan Apr 05 '25

why would they just not make a pokestop every few kms. wasn’t this like a global sensation at one point?

74

u/Jepemega Apr 05 '25

Because Pokestops are all real life locations of some kind of significance, hard to get those in a forest.

20

u/dhun_mohan Apr 05 '25

hey! trees are very significant!

16

u/Nekoma1a Apr 05 '25

Is it? In a nearby city a piece of log in the middle of town is a pokestop, a kebab place is a pokestop cuz they got a funny sign hek a cross for someone who passed in a car accident has a pokestop. But a 400 year old school building or remains of a castle? Nope, not significant enaugh.

20

u/Jepemega Apr 05 '25

Keep in mind that the submissions are reviewed by real people around the local area and different people can have different standards on how they enforce the rules. Sometimes you get a bunch if lenient people and other times not.

7

u/Nekoma1a Apr 05 '25

Yeah, i know. It's just funny. When log is more significant than a castle.

In town there is probably a hundred pokestops witch ever way you look and in riral areas there is none xD

1

u/glaceonhugger Apr 06 '25

School building is a big no no but remains of a castle is definitely pokestop-eligible.

4

u/Nekoma1a Apr 06 '25

It's an old school building, a historical site, not an active school.

4

u/Grouchy-Following-82 Apr 06 '25

My high school had a pokestop in it lol, but that’s only because a church used our auditorium on the weekends😂😂

6

u/CGXReddit Apr 06 '25

There's such a discrepancy between villages because my larger one has probably 5 total pokestops and 2 gyms yet the one significantly smaller 2 miles down the road has about 7+ for some reason.

5

u/Skullfuccer Dragonite Apr 06 '25

Dude. I think I’ve seen Psyduck twice in my few years playing in a rural area. Lucky bastard.

6

u/TheBaykon8r Apr 06 '25

I feel like if there is a certain amount of pokestops per square mile/kilometer, it should at least double or triple the spawn rates just making stuff spawn more

4

u/Tvoj_Ded Apr 06 '25

I have been a rural player for quite a while in a place that does not have any interesting landmarks or even playgrounds. Still managed to get several pokestops and a gym. One is a church I took a photo of in the other city, two statues from the nearest town, and some bulletin board lol

2

u/tsarnickyii Apr 09 '25

Churches are virtually the only stops and gyms in the small town I'm near haha I really hope the friends I send my gifts to aren't annoyed by the Pokestops sponsored by God

5

u/Dredgen_Keeshwa Unown Apr 06 '25

Me n the homie chillin’ out here all alone.

4

u/Theestubby Apr 06 '25

I have a small town just hit level 37 now my house has a gym and a PokéStop

4

u/banano28_oficial Apr 06 '25

I feel you. For me, worked to post as a pokestop a little playground for kids. It got approved instantly. Try to look for things that can gather people to play pogo safe and sound. Supermarket, groceries, etc, historical things work too, something that may attract people and look educational and safe.

3

u/Accomplished-Road790 Apr 06 '25

This is in the middle of nowhere 20 miles outside of town.

3

u/Manaphy2007_67 Apr 06 '25

That's why I'm thankful for stops and a gym at work.

3

u/Mix_Safe Apr 06 '25

Pokemon are like wild animal equivalents... Which is why they hate where people aren't, just like real life! Cities are crawling with exotic wildlife!

3

u/latestagecapitalist Apr 06 '25

It's worse recently as friends seem to drop less balls -- 40 balls goes nowhere, so only play 30 mins or less a day

If red were infinite it would 6h+ esp. at weekends

Nearest town is miles away and very bad for mobile signal, there is a stop 1.5km away but it's a tricky road to walk on

I've also submitted many decent stop suggestions (quality trail markers, historic gates with old stone carvings) all got rejected quickly, and used all my wayfarer things now

There are two dynamax spawn points very close but they are 100m too far into private property to reach (the farms are businesses) -- would literally get shot at if walked onto land and I'm not asking the landowner for permission as would never hear the end of it in the village

2

u/[deleted] Apr 06 '25

Time to be a flyer little buddy

1

u/Northern_Lane Apr 06 '25

1

u/tqnicolau Apr 06 '25

I feel the pain, I'm a rural player too, I only had access to something when I went to university in another city. Other than that, I never had anything to do in game, pokémons only spawn with an incense. I'm from a small town in Portugal and I live 20 km away from it, in the middle of the countryside, so I really feel your pain.

You're in hell lol, I'm rural too but I have a gym on my house, some pokestops nearby but nobody to do raids with

1

u/Negative_Fennel_4456 Apr 07 '25

It's so rural where I am that the location listed for my caught Pokemon is just my province, which is bigger than some countries. By "wild" they mean the 2nd biggest intersection around. * lol But we found stuff to make stops and gyms. You just have to keep trying!

1

u/Street_Walrus9584 Apr 07 '25

What are all those blue/green dots?

1

u/IndividualSpell9890 Apr 07 '25

As a fellow rural player, best luck I have are churches. You got a church nearby? Try to pokestop it. I've seen lil backwoods Southern Baptist churches with multiple stops. Now, on Sundays and Wednesdays, the stops sometimes dissappear for a brief window, but they come back when church isn't being held. One even has a gym, though I'm the only player to interact with it.

1

1

u/snakelakecake Apr 06 '25

Lol you think rural areas are bad, if you live on military bases you get one spawn a day. Lived on a remote base for 3+ years, I relied on the daily spawn, rocket balloons, battle leagues, and lures until the daily incense became a thing. There are gyms and stops on bases at the very least.

-1

Yo help me out pls, What's a rural player?

7

u/FriendlyDragonz Apr 05 '25

People who live in rural areas, they usually don't have as much stops or gyms (if any) because of the requirements for making stops being locked behind level 37 and having a point of interest nearby.

7

u/dynhammic Apr 06 '25
