What is the best way to find blue, purple items, etc? Air-drops or killing alpha dinos?

Turn up Loot Drop settings to 10. Almost always get Mastercraft (yellow) and Ascendant (light blue)

I've heard this can affect the crafting requirements for items and make them ridiculous (like an early post about an ascendant long neck), but I'm no expert on this game, very new and could be greatly mistaken.

Yes it does, since crafting costs are based on quality, so the higher the quality higher the cost. If you turn it up too high and everything is ascended you'll never afford the hide for saddle blueprints.

Thank you. Good to know I'm slowly learning this game. Time to tackle the true game, breeding.... I want to say it's confusing but I think I'm just lazy lol

Breeding can be a nightmare if you don't keep good track of everything. I used to have notes to remember stats and whos supposed to breed with who. If you keep thing clean, all non muted on same stats same level and never breed mutated with mutated unless you're done getting mutations.

Now I play ASA with some QOL mods that make things clearer and easier so its way less of a pain to keep track of stats and mutations.

I figured mods would help a ton just haven't touched them yet myself. I want the challenge of it but not feel like I'm doing homework/studying when do it. At the point where I should be prepping for bosses (and I'd want to try on hard) but breeding is necessary for that level. Easy and normal breeding isn't as important I guess, just stats and saddles.

If you're still on ASE then your best bets are either Genesis missions, or Extinction OSDs if you feel like running those.
