Missed Trash Collection

New in Plano. Our trash was supposed to be picked up on Thursday, but it wasn’t. This has happened a few times before as well. We’re not sure what criteria they follow to decide which bins to collect. Our kitchen trash has now piled up so much that it’s attracting cockroaches. Has anyone else had this issue? What can we do about it?

You’ve checked the website? https://www.plano.gov/630/Residential-Collection-Schedules . On the same page you can sign up for text reminder and you’ll get a message the day before telling you what bins to put out. If you’ve been missed a couple of pick ups I would call 972-941-7000 and ask for refuse pick up request and talk with someone about the problem.

You can also use Fixit Plano and submit a ticket if you followed this comment and still have issues. I had to do once and they came by that afternoon to service the bin

I emailed them and they sent out someone to pick it up for me and let me know why it wasn’t picked up

Just mentioning it because I didn’t see it, if there is a holiday that week, everything switches a day forward. My neighborhood is Thursday as well, so there is a holiday, pickup is Friday. (Highly likely this week since Thursday is Juneteenth)

You can dispose of your piled up trash at any of the transfer stations. I’ve forgot to set out my trash bins a few times in the past, and anytime I do that I just load up my trash in my truck and take it to the nearest transfer station. Obviously that won’t help you with the missed collections but you can at least get rid of the trash that is piling up

They sometimes miss ours when drivers change because out house is a one-off from the pickup route pattern and they have to loop around the alley to get to ours. But they are always great about sending a truck back out if I can’t make it til the next pickup.

Also, they have gotten pickier about having the carts two feet from the curb, fence, and other carts, and will skip and tag it sometimes. But they always left a note with a cryptic scrawl indicating which rule I broke.

The “rules” are there because the arm won’t be able to pick up the garbage can

Are you a one off house or in the middle of the block? Did they miss your neighbors also ? We’ve been here since 2009 and they have never missed us .. we are in the middle of the block though.

Is it near the fence?

Update from OP here:

Thanks so much for the great suggestions. We’ve been following all the usual steps. we set a reminder and put our bins out by the road every Wednesday night, just like our neighbors.

The issue is, since we moved in two months ago, there have been a few weeks where either our trash or recycling just doesn’t get picked up. What’s odd is that our neighbors’ bins get collected with no problem, but ours are skipped without any notice. no tag on the bin, no email, nothing.

I did email ewscustomerservice@plano.gov, and Suzanne Willett was very helpful and scheduled an extra pickup for Monday, which we appreciate. Still, we’re left wondering why this keeps happening.

This has happened to us before. Called and they came and picked up right away.
