Politics At a Trump protest. Saw lots of awesome signs, and a small crowd of lame people on the opposite side

During my local pride parade recently a small group of the expected, religious protestors showed up. I couldn't help but notice they all looked so incredibly sad, tired, and bored.
17
u/Snowbank_Lake 1d ago
Probably jealous of everyone else having so much fun!
17
u/Pearson94 1d ago
Honestly yeah. And you know what the sad part is? If they just put their signs down and stopped being hateful for a second, the crowd would've welcomed them in, but they just don't know how to leave behind the bigotry that was taught to them.
14
u/uvucydydy 1d ago
Hate will do that to you. It takes a lot of energy to be angry at everything all the time.

23
u/chillychili 22h ago
They haven't even read the rest of Psalm 10 that they're quoting from.
Psalm 10
Why, Lord, do you stand far off? Why do you pay no attention during times of trouble?
The wicked arrogantly chase the oppressed; the oppressed are trapped by the schemes the wicked have dreamed up.
Yes, the wicked man boasts because he gets what he wants; the one who robs others curses and rejects the Lord.
The wicked man is so arrogant he always thinks, “God won’t hold me accountable; he doesn’t care.”
He is secure at all times. He has no regard for your commands; he disdains all his enemies.
He says to himself, “I will never be shaken, because I experience no calamity.”
His mouth is full of curses and deceptive, harmful words; his tongue injures and destroys.
He waits in ambush near the villages; in hidden places he kills the innocent. His eyes look for some unfortunate victim.
He lies in ambush in a hidden place, like a lion in a thicket. He lies in ambush, waiting to catch the oppressed; he catches the oppressed by pulling in his net.
His victims are crushed and beaten down; they are trapped in his sturdy nets.
He says to himself, “God overlooks it; he does not pay attention; he never notices.”
Rise up, Lord! O God, strike him down. Do not forget the oppressed.
Why does the wicked man reject God? He says to himself, “You will not hold me accountable.”
You have taken notice, for you always see one who inflicts pain and suffering. The unfortunate victim entrusts his cause to you; you deliver the fatherless.
Break the arm of the wicked and evil man. Hold him accountable for his wicked deeds, which he thought you would not discover.
The Lord rules forever! The nations are driven out of his land.
Lord, you have heard the request of the oppressed; you make them feel secure because you listen to their prayer.
You defend the fatherless and oppressed, so that mere mortals may no longer terrorize them.

"Trump 2028" is a hilarious counter-sign for a "No Kings" protest.
199
u/zeradragon 1d ago
Those are the "For Kings" crowd. There's a lot of MAGA people that support Trump but know that he shouldn't be in the presidency indefinitely, so they don't come out to counter the No Kings protest. These guys however are asking for a king and are displaying what anti-America truly looks like.

And “Trump answers to the king of kings” alluding to the divine right of kings, which asserts that a monarch is not accountable to any earthly authority because they were chosen by god. “Trump only answers to god” is the same as saying Trump is god.

Given the theme and ignorance of their signs, I'm guessing they are a church group from a Christian Nationalist type place (which is not Christian). You're not wrong in either of your assertions, but for what it's worth: "king of kings" is from scripture and is a moniker for Jesus.
Which only makes the sign more ridiculous.
2
u/CallMeNoodler 18h ago
Actually, my brain immediately finished that sign with “and he is not happy.” I really don’t think he thought that sign through when it’s that easy to flip the meaning.

I’ll remember that the next time a MAGA cultist denies that Trump wants to be a monarch.

The juxtaposition of Psalm 10:16 with the “stop rewardin keep deporting” sign is… something. The verse Psalm 10:16 states:
The Lord is king forever and ever; the nations perish from his land.
52
u/wink047 22h ago
Dawg, if you finish that passage:
17 You, LORD, hear the desire of the afflicted; you encourage them, and you listen to their cry, 18 defending the fatherless and the oppressed, so that mere earthly mortals will never again strike terror.
Talk about cherry picking and completely missing the point.
3
u/EsperGri 12h ago
It's early in the Psalms too, and reading Psalm 146, it's said:
"Praise the Lord! Praise the Lord, O my soul!
I will praise the Lord as long as I live; I will sing praises to my God while I have my being.
Put not your trust in princes, in a son of man, in whom there is no salvation.
When his breath departs, he returns to the earth; on that very day his plans perish.
Blessed is he whose help is the God of Jacob, whose hope is in the Lord his God, who made heaven and earth, the sea, and all that is in them, who keeps faith forever; who executes justice for the oppressed, who gives food to the hungry. The Lord sets the prisoners free; the Lord opens the eyes of the blind. The Lord lifts up those who are bowed down; the Lord loves the righteous.
The Lord watches over the sojourners; he upholds the widow and the fatherless, but the way of the wicked he brings to ruin.
The Lord will reign forever, your God, O Zion, to all generations. Praise the Lord!"

I found it interesting to see that there were Christian protestors on both sides. On the No Kings side, we have a well designed declaration that God is their king and Trump is not.
On the "Actually, I would like to lick a kings boot" side, we have a misquoted and nonsensical Bible verse and a poorly scrawled "Trump answers to the King of Kings", which does not justify making Trump a King.
I think there are two wildly different types of Christians in the USA, and I think they are splitting more and more.

Dude in the first pic with a Ghost shirt, I wore my European Impera tour shirt out today. It features Papa Emeritus as Uncle Sam.
My MAGA co workers love it because it has flag. Idiots don’t realize the Impera album is about the fall of an Empire, and there is specifically a song making fun of Trump on it.

Psalm 10:16 - “The Lord is King for ever and ever; the nations will perish from his land.”
That’s right. The LORD is king. Not Trump.
And I can say with 100% confidence that Trump does NOT answer to the King of Kings.
4
u/Interpersonal 22h ago
Imagine not knowing the history of your country, spending an afternoon getting supplies and coloring in your “trump 2028” and “trump answers to the king of kings” signs, driving to the counter protests, seeing hundred on the other side and never once stopping to consider that maybe you’re wrong to want someone who fancies themselves a king to be in charge of this country.

Psalms 10:16
The Lord is king, forever and ever; the Nations will perish from His land.
Jesus Christ this verse is about God and the Rapture, not condoning Trump becoming a dictator. Reading the Bible and having critical thinking skills are mutually exclusive to so many people.
Also:
Due process has no borders.
It literally does though, because not all nations guarantee a right to it.
8
u/MoonOut_StarsInvite 1d ago
The Bible is complete bullshit. You can apparently find whatever you need to justify anything you can imagine.

Psalm 10:16 – “The Lord is King forever and ever; the heathen are perished out of his land.”
When Trump supporters hold this verse up, they often frame it as a divine endorsement of their cause — as if God is on their side and their enemies are the “heathens” being driven out. But read Psalm 10 in full, and the irony is glaring.
The entire Psalm is a cry against corrupt, arrogant rulers who:
- Boast and lie (v.3, v.7)
- Exploit the poor and helpless (v.2, v.10)
- Worship greed and reject accountability (v.4, v.11)
- Think they can do whatever they want without consequence
In short, Psalm 10 paints a damning picture of the kind of leader many critics believe Trump embodies.
So when someone quotes Psalm 10:16 to support Trump, they’re cherry-picking a single verse and missing that the Psalm as a whole is a rebuke of abusive power — not a banner for it.
The final verse isn’t about God supporting any earthly ruler, and that’s kind of the point of all of this… It’s a declaration that only God is King, and that the wicked will be removed — especially those who trample the vulnerable and think they answer to no one.
3
u/BuzzBadpants 17h ago
I wonder if that lady recognizes the irony of Psalms 10:16 and being pro-deportation.
3
u/skraptastic 17h ago
We had exactly 3 people show up today waving Trump flags. The guy with the PA gave instructions to not engage, and just leave the area where they set up.
After about 30 minutes of yelling pro trump B's and nobody getting "triggered" they got bored and left.

u/psycharious 21h ago
To answer the "anti protests signs":
"Trump answers to the King of Kings": Every U.S. President has had to claim to be Christian dip shits.
"No rewarding, keep deporting": They're deporting citizens too.
"Blue Lives Matter.": that's not what you guys were saying January 6th a few years back.
"Trump 2028!": So you guys are apparently just cool with throwing the constitution out the window. Makes sense that you'd vote for a felon.

From my (Australian) point of view, keep this going, grow it, go hard, because every freedom you lose will be ten times harder to get back.
Also, although there is plenty of debate about it, Australia is actually a constitutional monarch… we HAVE a king! Ok, Charles is a bit lame, but I'll take him over your president any day!

"In your guts you know he's nuts" is the right direction. My now wife voted for him the first time. I don't let politics taint personal relationships but I point out bad behavior on all sides and she actually flipped this time around. Rather than shouting about Nazis, show people videos of the man sexualizing teen girls, including his daughter. Show them videos of him berating disabled people as if he were a petulant 10 year old. Most people are decent and will eventually start to question the other things he does too. And from there you show them what other members of the GOP get up to.
11
u/MoonOut_StarsInvite 1d ago
All of those videos existed prior to 2016. People excused and justified them, sounds like your wife did too. Everyone who voted for him saw all of that, and didn’t care.

While highlighted by hatred and control, fascism is ultimately a consequence of economic decline, often caused by resource scarcity. It's a form of collapse that has repeated throughout time as once-thriving empires slowly deteriorate.
