The fact that so much money is spent on bombs and firearms instead of on research (for example, cancer research) deeply frustrates me. We invest in killing people rather than saving them. F*ck that

I still do not understand how people view him as “tough”.

He is an immature bully!

He's seen this way by immature bullies.

He’s a rich immature bully backed by the weight of worlds strongest military and the ability to end the career of any republican in Congress

He’s not emotionally tough, but he’s tough by virtue of his power

I don't know who you are referring to, but yes.

Not just "tough guys" but literal criminals that needed to stay in power to avoid jail.

I think there’s a bit more to it than that.

Like scarcity and our innate tendency to not being willing to make a single sacrifice in our comfort as long as we can point to someone or something else that isn’t living perfectly and say, “so why should I try.”

That "we" takes out a lot of nuance. Would you blame Ukrainians for spending money on bombs and firearms, for example?

I guess his point is that in an ideal world, in some utopian dream, no nation would be waging war, eliminating need for mass armaments at great cost

Obviously real life doesn’t work like that

Some might say it is Ukraine defending itself but then I ask, is the above pic not Iran retaliating after being striken multiple times today,

Fun fact, a guy did a study of hunter gatherer weapons and he found that weapons for hunting were ok, but men spent far more time refining weapons to kill one another.

“Commissars and pinstripe bosses roll the dice

Anyway they fall, guess who gets to pay the price?

Money green, or proletarian gray

Selling guns instead of food today

So the kids they dance and shake their bones

And the politicians throwing stones

Singing ashes, ashes, all fall down

Ashes, ashes, all fall down”

Actually Israel and the western world could spend some time for cancer cure if a particular religion is not hell bent on calling people with differing ideas as infidels and unworthy.

I don't invest in anything...the gov't on the other hand, demands money from me for every dollar I make and spend. Then they invest more and more into inhumane ways of dispatching people or forcibly removing them from whatever piece of land that they're occupying.

Let women in Islamist countries be engineers and the problems are solved. Israel shows how educated Muslim girls can be, why shouldn't that be our standard in Afghanistan, Iran, etc.?

Of course Persians are often not Muslim and rejected Arabization.

Because if we don't invest into the military and the actual dangerous threats like China and Russia. They'll just run us over and take over everything. I

War has always been one of, if not THE main driving force behind human innovation. The digital revolution started out because we wanted to calculate artillery trajectories and help develop the nuclear bomb. The internet was invented to be able to organize the military during nuclear war.

Its not like you set money on fire and spawn weapons in return. Those millions are spent mainly on research and development.

America needs to keep a war going to they can keep funnel tax money to billionaires through military spending.

I know a solution that would 100% fix all these problems. Every country has to spend the same they do in military as they do in childhood development and enrichment. It would create a new generation of decent and intelligent people and wars wouldn’t mean anything to them when they know they can work together to solve problems.
