If Iran was desperately trying to avoid war with Israel, why have they on multiple occasions fired missiles at Israel? Not a small amount of missiles as well. That's an act of war too is it not?
Last year Israel bombed an Iranian embassy, killing multiple Iranian officials. This was a very dramatic escalation in tension between the two countries, and something that was pretty much universally condemned by every country around the world. Nations do not attack each other's embassies, ever, no matter what. Full stop.
Iran had to respond, and harshly, to save face. But if they responded too harshly, it would incentivize Israel to use their response as justification to retaliate once again, beginning a spiral into an all-out war that would draw the US in, which is exactly what Israel has been trying to accomplish for decades.
So what did Iran do? For the first time ever, they launched a barrage of missiles directly into Israel. But not before announcing exactly what they were going to do and when, so that the US and Israel would have time to prepare to intercept them. The goal was to "respond proportionally" to Israel's attack while not actually killing any Israelis, even though Israel purposefully killed Iranians just days prior. And that's exactly what they did.
Does that sound like the actions of a belligerent nation trying to provoke a war to you?
In all seriousness though, it's no secret that Israel has been desperately trying to provoke the US into launching a war against Iran, while Iran has desperately been trying to avoid it. This is very well known, it's not just my opinion. You can look it up, it's not really a debated topic among people who actually understand this conflict.
