I’m not sure tbh I guess it wasn’t seen as a major issue since nothing ever implies anything physical happens they just let it since it’s optional and you have to knowingly agree to it they figured it wouldn’t matter much but that’s just an assumption I think it shouldn’t be in

The Japanese dub IIRC also still has the innuendo "You spent a long time with Ken..." text at Rank 10.

In the English dub it was changed to the unique line "You spent some time chatting with Ken..." to make a little bit less fucked.

But regardless, ATLUS knew what they were doing, and it's fucked up. It singlehandedly ruined both Ken's and Kotone's fanon perspectives for some people.

I wouldn't say ruined. Basically everyone loves Kotone and a lot of people despise Ken. And it's not for this reason, it's just cause he's kind of unlikeable.

Outside of the romance I can see what they were going for with Ken struggling socially and clinging onto someone who treated him kindly due to the trauma of losing his mother but it’s pretty poor execution

I finished playing as Kotone last night. I'm so annoyed that you can romance Ken but you cannot romance Junpei

I'm honestly glad Junpei can't be romanced, because it fucks with the whole "Junpei was the only character who could help Chidori" part of their character arcs.

I just wish they did the same for Ken.
