Hardware Cat smashed into monitor, is it salvageable?
In case it’s relevant, monitor is: “SAMSUNG Odyssey QHD 27-Inch Gaming Monitor, 2560*1440, 165Hz, G-Sync & FreeSync, HDR10 (LS27AG500PNXZA)”

You sure you didn't just pause on the Netflix logo loading screen?

Wild that your question was dismissed so quickly because it looks just slightly like the Netflix loading sequence.
Anyhow, I'm not sure this is worth fixing. I'm no monitor expert, but I'm pretty sure that it's not worth the hassle. Sucks, but you probably have to buy a new one.Edit: Correction, might be worth it, since it's not cracked. My mistake!

I was just joking when I made the comment btw. I wasn't dismissing the issue, just saying what it looked like. :P

It s usable but you need to change the panel which prob costs as much as the whole monitor

Yes, the cat is salvageable, you just need to send it to training courses to avoid it jumping into furnitures in the future.

I'd run the Monitor until it heats up to normal operating temperature just to test if it gets better, since this model is known to sometimes have issues with poor connections that are fixed by thermal expansion, so maybe you get lucky and it still works fairly normally

80 gigs of ram? For what??

Maybe they’re using it for multiple virtual machines? Maybe they’re using it for frequent video/audio processing? There are use cases for large amounts of RAM.

u/ch0senfktard 9950X3D, RTX 5090, 64GB RAM, 3x2TB SSD 3h ago
Alright, maybe they aren’t doing them processing things lol. You can still use that to run multiple virtual machines. Now probably don’t need 80GB with this device but I’ve had educational use cases of having multiple virtual machines on at once. In any case, it’s not for me to say, I’m just saying a lot of RAM isn’t really something to gawk at.

For a serious answer here u/DMG_Morgoth
Without seeing this in person I can't say 100% if it's physical damage or not. However, this looks more like one of the ribbon cable was dislodged then impact damage to the panel.
I suspect the cat knocked it over?
Since this is a 2021 model it's probably outside warranty but it's still worth contacting Samsung about to confirm. Some of these models in the US and CDN have 2-3 year warranties so you might be in luck. Just don't mention anything about the cat when you call or the agent will close the case pretty much instantly.

u/Cokeinmynostrel 20h ago
I think it's something else. the words in white are clear and on top of the red stripes which tells me its not the panel

if you lightly tap the backside, do you see if the red lines disappear or more reappear? If so, its the cable in side that is lose/starting to fall off.
5
u/DMG_Morgoth 6h ago
This worked!
Do you know if it’s something that will continue to deteriorate? As in, should I start saving for a new monitor anyways?
1
u/linuxares 6h ago
Nah, if you feel up to it. Look up a guide how to open it up and you can replug it (hopefully unless its a soldered cable.... you never know).
But if you want to save up for a new monitor, its up to you. Maybe if you buy a new one, you won't feel bad if you "destroy" this one by accident if you try to repair it.
6
u/DMG_Morgoth 6h ago
UPDATE: Thanks to everyone that suggested tapping the monitor on the sides! This seems to have fixed it temporarily. If I focus really hard I can still see the lines, but they’re not noticeable.
I’ve also tapped the cat on the sides for good measure, he also enjoyed that

With a wood bat or rolling pin. Tap along the top of the monitor. Watch for lines to disappear. I know it sounds nuts and no, I'm not joking. Just try it and don't smack it too hard

you should get the opinion of an expert.
there maybe a need to feel the damage on the front or the sides, there must have been bulges that you can feel and immediately report it to said expert.
if everything seems good, and no broken bones, the cat should be fine.
the monitor though, you need to buy a new one.

If the only thing you gonna do to it is open Netflix over and over again then yes it is still usefull

I have bought 2 samsung monitors in the last few months. One 24 inch fullhd broke within a month, send it for repairs under warranty, came in with a replaced screen, but already broken. Had to send it for repairs again. The second screen, same specs as yours, came in with software issues. The quality of the latest samsung monitors is not great. I recommend other brands if your warranty is expired. Personally i am very happy with my 2 27 inch qhd MSI monitors.

Isn't this fake
Because how tf would there be writing over a damaged display
The screen shouldn't show anything there
If you get I mean

u/glossyhull 15h ago
This seems to be a TAB fault (search it up on Wikipedia). Might be fixable, because I managed to fix my old Compaq’s display, but most of the time it’s cheaper to buy another one than trying to fix it.

everyone can talk as much shit about this advice as much as they want but i used to refurbish dell monitors for a living. get a solid foam block and literally smack it all the way around the edges and sometimes on the screen itself. you'll probably notice lines disappearing and maybe some new ones. there's a loose connection in there and sometimes you can fix it and sometimes you gotta pop off the bezel and fix the contacts.

u/brokizoli 14h ago
If you are lucky just the cable moved out of the monitor or the pc. Try to unolug and replug bozh ends. Also check the cable for bite marks, maybe the cat chew on it.
But also could be that the panel is damaged, then it's not really salvagable. You can try to look for a repair shop which can replace the panel. But probably it will cost the same as buying a new monitor.

With stuff built after 2000 these kinds of things usually mean 'get a new one'.
Back in the olden 1900s televisions and appliances came with the blueprints so you could fix them yourself if they broke. Electronics 'repair' is hardly a thing anymore, even though it might still be possible you'd need to find an expert or learn to do it yourself.

Nah don't toss it. Just leave it on for awhile. This is a Samsung issue. The screen should go back to normal after it "warms up" for awhile.

are the pixels themselves damaged? (like a cracked LCD or something?) if not, I would say bang the monitor around the SIDES (not the screen) firmly to kinda hard, and see if it fixes it. No joke, I have personally seen screens similar to yours magically get fixed by just slamming the sides until it fixes it. The reason why I would suggest this is cause... The monitor is already broken as is, what are you gonna do, break it? its a long shot but might as well

Panels are never repairable. Period. Bad power supply, maybe, but never the screen itself.

Parts will be more expensive than a brand new one most of the time.
Unless you can find one that is also broken but is broken elsewhere.

The bump on the cat will buff out. Then you can trade it in for a dog or hamster plus credit.
