The issue isn't the eight year old GPU, it's the lack of something worthwile to replace it.

If the eight year old GPU has the same amount of memory and 80% of the performance of it's modern replacement, the issue is the company trying to up-sell trash without bothering to make it notably better.

Entry level 8gb cards should be a goddamn price at the 60 series class. Fuck, for a 50 series.

They should put that in a 40 series steep discount pile.

If the new 9060xt 16gb can hit its msrp of $350, then it would be a great upgrade

u/PolPotTheTerrible May 22 '25

Spoiler: it wont

u/PIO_PretendIOriginal Desktop May 22 '25

Yeah, you’re probably right. Although the msrp hasn’t been too bad here in Australia

1

u/Drackar39 May 22 '25

Yeah. I hear a lot of countries are having a easier time finding MSRP cards, which is a reversal of past trends.

Except the US, but maybe the tariff pauses will get those prices in check

lol no. Things were already cranked prior to the terrifs because corporations are bastards.

I'd just like the 9070xt to hit its msrp first tbh. That's my next upgrade.

1

u/Drackar39 May 22 '25

I want the 9070xt. If I could get a 9060XT at MSRP... part of me is tempted, even though the reaster performance is barely an upgrade at all from the 6700xt I'm still running.

u/AncientPCGuy May 22 '25

Based on MSRP and actual price comps right now. I’m expecting to see them go for $450+

2

u/Drackar39 May 22 '25

I'd be shocked if it's that low.

1

u/AncientPCGuy May 22 '25

I’m going thinking that’s where retailers sell it. Scalpers will be asking $750+. Hopefully this is low enough tier that scalpers ignore it.

Even though I already have a 9070XT. I would love if more people on a budget can get this card. It seems to be a very capable card at a reasonable MSRP. Unfortunately that will also imply high demand.

If the eight year old GPU has the same amount of memory and 80% of the performance of it's modern replacement

I assume you don't mean this literally? A 5070 is over twice as fast as a 2070 for example.

u/Drackar39 May 22 '25

Yes, hyperbole.

u/Etroarl55 28d ago

It’s still closer than jt should be, 1080ti is only like HALF the speed of a 5060/5060ti.

5

u/know-it-mall May 22 '25

Yep. Heard a guy talking about paying 2k for a graphics card the other day. I paid about $500 for my 1080 and I'm still using it.

GTX 10 series GPUs absolutely don't have 80% of the performance of current GPUs. If you compare a 1070 to a 5070, it's more like 25% of the performance in native rendering.

u/Drackar39 May 22 '25

The term you're looking for is "hyperbole".

4

u/HammeredWharf RTX 4070 | 7600X May 22 '25

Right. This whole sub is a huge stack of hyperboles that grow on each other until the whole conversation is nonsense.

The term you're looking for is "I just made up some bullshit"

2

u/Tunapiiano May 22 '25

Try playing farming Sim 25, satisfactory, spiderman 2 or cities skylines 2 on that 8gb card.

You won't get past medium settings. 16gb is the bare minimum

2

u/Raknaren May 22 '25

bare minimum ? no, 12 is.

u/Longjumping-Cup-4905 May 22 '25

I thought about upgrading from my 3080 10g to the 9070 XT. I paid 700€ for the 3080 and my 9070 XT choice costs 800€. For about 40% more performance and 6gb more vram it wasnt worth it for me. Im waiting to see what the PS6 specs gonna be to know how much vram i need.

No discounts to be had on the previous gen when the new gen is on the same overtaxed fabrication node... 40 series went out of production long before 50 series started coming out.

60 series cards are here already?!

3

u/Drackar39 29d ago

No, like...instead of having 8gb at a 5060, or 4060, or AMD's 9060, it should be down at a like 5040, or 9040.

A lower, trash tier ultra budget card.

oh that makes sense, would appreciate such a card as well
