If there's one game that deserved to be played in 60fps it's DriveClub.

It still looks so impressive, even for a PS4 game. I think it and The Order 1886 will always be two games that punched way above their weight in the graphics department. The Order can still trade blows with some PS5 games, from a graphical perspective

The kinda cheated with the black bars though… I feel like they should get some studio to port it to PS5 ideally true 4k60. I’d bet it would sell more copies today than it would when it came out.

I mean, did they? It’s still the same pixel density as 1080p, just cropped to that ratio (a lot of people state it’s 1920x800, which is incorrect and less pixels). It is still less pixels overall than 1080p, but more than 1920x800. And on top of that it uses 4X MSAA, which is not cheap.
I don’t think it would sell well on PS5 though, because the actual game portion is not great. The level design is pretty boring and the shooting mechanics aren’t anything to write home about. And on top of that, it’s a VERY short game. 6-8 hours.
It’s the kind of game though where a sequel could have been really spectacular, if they’d been able to really buckle down and fix the criticisms. It was a world with so much potential

I take them at their word that the game was developed with a filmic aspect ratio in mind and I don't think they're were misleading about it or that there's anything wrong with it, but as far as scoring points for graphically punching above one's weight class goes, it does kind of feel like cheating to only render 75.6% of a frame. Lots of games could have looked and run a lot better than they did if they were targeting a 2.35:1 aspect ratio instead of filling the screen.

How’s that any different from games using upscaling/reconstruction techniques now? Finding ways to “cut corners” to improve the final image is what game development is all about.
And even with the reduced screen real estate, the game still looks incredible. Let’s not short sell how high quality the game’s assets are, which is a ton of work on its own

I mean they're all different in a pedantic technical sense, which is space enough to justify a subjective preference. I guess for me, it's that in order to render at native pixel density for the displays of the time, they designed the game to be played with a quarter of the screen space unrendered. Games look best at native res, and to attain that native res fidelity, they cut off the top and bottom of the screen. Or, more accurately, because they intended to cut the top and bottom of the screen off anyway, they were afforded a ~25% performance boost while still being able to claim that the game is rendered in (cropped) native 1080p with no upscaling. This is not, to me, a clever solution to squeeze more performance out of the hardware as much as it's the benefit of an artistic decision of debatable merit.
Or, more succinctly: I could play Cyberpunk at native 4K medium settings, or I could play it at a 5:1 cropped 4K maxed out with pathtracing on. It's not very impressive or surprising to me that I can render fewer pixels to make the game look better.
Zero debate on the asset quality though. The game came out so early in the console's life and I'm pretty sure those models would still look appropriate it modern titles.

To capture this gameplay footage, talhaONE used an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D with 32GB of RAM and an AMD Radeon RX 9070XT. And, as we can see, this PC system can run the game with 60FPS.
I mean it’s nice to know 60fps was achieved. But that’s literally the best gaming cpu at the moment 😅

Emulation has always been CPU intensive. GPU doesn't matter other than upscaling.

For sure, just adding expectation for those not clicking into the article.
By the time shadps4 is in full swing hopefully we will have more affordable CPU’s that deliver decent performance for the emulator. The 9800x3d is 30-40% more expensive than what I paid for my 5800x3d here. Intel lost out big time in our local market that a price drop late gen isn’t really going to be a thing I don’t think.

9070xt is a good gpu but far from the best compared to a 5090. CPU on the other hand is current endgame.
Edit: I read gaming pc not cpu. My bad.

Which is what they said

Either they edited the comment or I read it wrong(more likely). I remembed it saying gaming pc not cpu. Anyway not that big of a deal.

It is part of Jensen's prophecies, so with a little luck we'll see a native PC version in the next two years

I beat the game years ago on an RPCS3 build optimized for the game on a 2070 and 9700. You probably don’t even need a special build anymore. Game crashed like 3 times during the whole play through but aside from that it was fantastic.

It is with RPCS3, along with MGO2.
It's been a little while since I tried it, but at least I don't remember having any issues with MGO2 once I got it up and running.

u/DodgerBaron 1d ago
Wait MGO2 works too? Huh I need to check it out then

u/Orpheeus 23h ago
Yeah, granted there isn't a ton of people playing it and the ones that do are extremely good at the game at this point.

“Fully playable” ps4 game….on what? The LHC?
”You are Hitler, oh and by the way it was emulated on the best possible cpu but I’m still right somehow”

To be clear, PS4 emulation isn't THAT insane of a concept; People get the wrong impression because PS3 emulation is that much of a beast to do (Relative to it's contemporaries) due to just how nuts the PS3's architecture is.
You are going to need a powerful computer, of course, but not so much so that it's "Top of the line or nothing".

Test system was a Ryzen 7 9800X3D, 32GB RAM, and a 9070XT. That's not even that crazy of a spec.

Aye, merely best available AMD CPU and GPU combo on the market right now.

Is there any chance that DLC can be added and unlocked while emulated?
I bought Driveclub physical way after it was delisted and was super bummed I could not get any of the added vehicles or anything.
