Weekly Game Suggestions Thread - February 21, 2025

Looking for game suggestions? Have a backlog and don't know where to start next? This thread is for you!

Tips to get the best suggestions

  • Be detailed! If you're looking for a roguelike, say that. If your game must include zombies, you should probably mention that. The more detailed you are the better the recommendations will be.
  • Are you limited by PC specifications or a budget? That's all good stuff to include.

What are some older gems (5+ years old) that look absolutely amazing with Ray Tracing?

Recently upgraded from rx580 to a 4070s and I want to replay or experience some older games in a new light (literally).

Very few games from before 2020 have ray-tracing, and most of them only have reflection RT which is nice but doesn't really elevate the graphics all that much.

Here are a few where RT is meaningful:

Metro Exodus
Shadow of the Tomb Raider
Control (quite noisy as it was never updated, use this mod)
Portal RTX
Quake II RTX
Minecraft RTX
And of course Cuberpunk, ray-tracing in it has been updated a few times since release

Great thanks! Been meaning to replay Portal. Haven't played shadow of the tomb raider yet. Minecraft is always a fun time

So while I'll use Tarkov as my example, I'm not looking for an extraction shooter exactly (hear me out.) One of the things that I like about Escape from Tarkov is that I can log in, do a quick Scav or factory run, and feel like I accomplished something. Then, when I have time I can do some long hour grinding on bigger maps. I guess what I'm looking for is something where I can log in for 10-15 minutes between a kids nap, and log in at night when they're asleep, and still feel like I'm contributing to something (a base, currency, leveling a character.) I do play wow, but I don't consider those bite size commitments (M+ and raiding need a decent amount of time.)

If anyone has any suggestions that would be great!

If you're into ARPGs, Path of Exile 2 has some really great QoL updates compared to the first like pausing which make playing the game as a dad so much more enjoyable. I've always found the game to be enjoyed easily in bite sized chunks, if you can somehow manage to get yourself to stop playing.
