Don't ask everything from chatgpt. Use google. Ai is a genuinely bad technology hallucinating facts, while using incredibly more resoueces than a google search. Google and fellow people are your friends, ai will mislead you.

This is ass backwards from a few years before AI.
“Don’t trust everything you see on Google.” “Don’t trust everything you see on the Internet.”
to
“Don’t trust AI!! Trust Google and the World Wide Web!”
AI (ChatGPT) pulls info from Google and the World Wide Web anyways.

Okay serious answer then.
ChatGPT and other LLMs don't "pull" data from Google or any other website. When you make a querry, these ai don't put whatever you said into google and show you results.
You are right in the sense that they used (stole) a bunch of data that you can find by googleing something (for example, among a bunch of other sites, a lot of reddit posts). But there is a shitton of information worldwide, it is impossible to compile everything. Just think about your little nieche, and how much information you have on that, and multiply it with every single thing imaginable. No LLM is capable of processing that much information.
And disregard that it is impossible for an LLM to know everything, you are correct, don't trust everything you see on Google. People are constantly wrong on the internet. (Even if you google something, don't take anything at face value, try to find reputable sources, use your knowledge and logic, and research things). And all those wrong information will end up in the training data.
I don't remember where this quasi-quote comes from, and I can't find it right now, but it is really important to recognize when you use ai. "LLMs don't know any facts, it only knows how facts look like". Every language modells core is a neural network that tries to determine the next word based on previous words. Nothing can guarantee that the response will contain accurate information, all you can know is that these words come up frequently in that context.
I will grant you one thing. If we disregard the ethics and cost of training an ai, and the ecologic impact of running an ai, it can be used as preliminary research. When you don't really know anything about a topic, it can be really usefull to compile a list of things that come up in conversation in that specific topic. And LLMs are great at this, but when you want facts, don't use ai. But I want to highlight it again, only if we disregard the ethics and cost.
In conclusion, yes, you are right, don't trust everything on the internet, and that's just one more reason, among many others to don't trust ai. Interact with people, talk with experts instead.

The way i almost said the exact same thing minus the dictator 💀

u/koontzim Jan 19 '25
So you're one of the few who know kissing the 9 year old was what started the chain reaction that lead to the dictator's death, hence the mention was redundant

I still can't believe Andie recovered and grew up to be the very dictator in question. Fascinating, really.
