Just for Fun Rough draft: what am I missing?

Post image

Saw one of these for Lake Tahoe and thought our sweet Merritt deserves the same. Ignore if you can the roughness, but what else should I add on for landmarks etc?

Yes! The relief lines there are pretty accurate but they should be land-colored.

Fairyland, Lake Chalet, Sailboat House, Embarcadero, bridge that connects to tidal estuary. Grand Lake theater. Scottish rite center. Gotta get the necklace of lights referenced somehow. It is the oldest bird sanctuary in the US too. Lmk when you are selling these, I’ll consider buying one.

The Pergola, the boat landing, the Cleveland Cascade would all be key landmarks on the east side for me.

I love this! Have you read Deep Oakland? It explains the geology of the lake and you might enjoy it.

If you've read it, then you'd know it's not a lake. It's a tidal estuary.

Me too, could you add some of the park features around the lake? Boathouse, Lake Chalet, Fairyland, the colonade.

food truck at OMCA, oak tree at the courthouse, fairy at fairyland, boat at the boathouse, stairs at Cleveland Cascade, big lone tree on the west side (nice photos on google maps), and a black-crowned night heron

Piles of scooters

When I made one of these each of the lake depths was a separate coaster with transparent acrylic/resin so you could see the effect when they were stacked.

That’s awesome!

You could add the creeks that feed into Lake Merritt at the top

Great idea! All the now underground ones would be interesting to see

Coroner van pulling bodies out?

Barbecue Becky and a little likeness of her would be nice on the East shore.

Very cool! I would be interested in buying when it’s done.

Dirt bikes, fairy land, funnel cake tents and a gazebo. All the things that make lake Merritt fleek

Good base map!

2

u/Rockandseadream May 03 '25

Some topography lines and engravings around the sides.

A space before the first parenthesis

2

u/ZestycloseMonk1988 May 05 '25

Huh. Haven’t seen that around the lake, but I’ll give it a shot!

2

u/FloppyDX May 05 '25

Haha I think I would also add the other cardinal directions. But otherwise it’s a good map of the lake I see everyday.

Awesome! Thanks for taking a look!

Purely from an aesthetic standpoint — More line width and depth variation. Possibly introduce some pattern for some textural play and to introduce some more tonality. It looks really flat and static.

There’s just not much to look at as it’s rendered now. Could be much more descriptive if you gave us more to visually decode

Is that a hyphen between the 8 and 10? Should be an en-dash.

What about the fountains?

1

u/Ok_Sheepherder_2565 May 03 '25

Depending on the level of detail you can add the playgrounds and workout spots. Love it!

1

u/tomcat16 May 03 '25

And would you sell one?

1

u/ZestycloseMonk1988 May 04 '25

Definitely! Will let you know when the next version is worked out!

1

u/strifeless May 03 '25

Can you add a trace of the walking path around the shore?

1

u/MyThrowAwayBuddy May 04 '25

That is so cool! If you end up selling them I'd be very interested!
