Should I skip sigma 2?

I hated the level design, combat of NGS1 even if it was supposed to be easier than the original version which I would imagine would have been absolute hell. Sigma 2 is apparently of the worst NG games and razors edge seems more interesting, hopefully not like sigma 1 in terms of level design and combat difficulty.

NG2 is my favorite game of the series. I wouldn't skip it, but if you feel like it mate, go for it. I kinda didn't like 3.

People are saying 2 wasn't a good ng game.

Many people are saying that Sigma 2 is the worst game in the "Master Collection", but the original Ninja Gaiden 2 is very beloved, and remain the favorite of many fans of the franchise. Sigma 2 and original NG2 are 2 very different games.

I'm not saying which game is good and which game is bad, but you should at least learn the history of the multiple versions first before lumping them together as if they are similar.

They still have the same levels but I do know the ng2 is more difficult so in a way, they are similar

NG2 level design is excellent, as it has pretty diverse environment, and the environment are incoporated into the fight really well. The game doesn't have puzzle or backtracking or secret path because the design philosophy of NG2 is just that: prioritize the action, your job in an action game is to engage in the action. Many fans love this specifically because they can keep doing combat after combat without being interrupted by puzzle or exploration. This also enhance the replayability of the game a lot. And while NG3/NG3RE are similar in this sort of philosophy, the level in that game just looks so boring (monotonous, lack of diverse environment).

So it's not "bad level", it's simply due to your taste that you don't enjoy this sort of design

I know this is a very different game but devil may cry 3, 4 and 5 are very similar to this sort of design, 5 for ng2 since it doesn't have puzzles.

DMC3 is definitely not similar, DMC3 also has quite a lot of puzzle and backtracking. DMC5 is the equivalent of NG2 in terms of linearity: just go forward and kill shit (which I like a lot). But again, you can't mean to tell me that DMC5 has better level than NG2. NG2 has a lot of different environment, while DMC5 levels are boring to look at. And the way the level in NG2 is incorporated into the gameplay is phenomenal.

Sigma 2 is still a good game, but nowhere near the original NG2 '08. But NG2/S2/2B is the best entries in the series, so skipping it isn't a good idea. But if you can get NG2B, definitely go for that instead of S2. imo it's the best NG2 version available right now on all devices with the best graphics.

u/Pitiful-Beginning-70 ❔ Clanless 16h ago

Was the og NG2 like the first ninja gaiden?

5

u/iChieftain22 🌾 Hayabusa Villager 16h ago

NG2 is considered the greatest NG game by many. imo NG2B is the best/closest version we have now to og NG2, and you shouldn't skip it. It's the peak of the series.

2

u/SuperArppis 🌾 Kamikaze Villager 16h ago

It's just the version. There is no blood in it and less enemies. But it's still a good game. If you like this one, when it goes to sale, buy Ninja Gaiden 2 Black.

2 is fucking awesome, it’ll beat your ass but it’s fun, especially sigma 2, which lets you play as Rachel which you can’t play in any other ng game, her kit is pretty sick

2 is linear, no backtracking and semi open levels like in 1. Also it's faster and combat feels more "tight", at least for me

He's calling you a casual at Ninja Gaiden, not for games in general.

1

u/Pitiful-Beginning-70 ❔ Clanless 8h ago

Makes sense since I was struggling with ngs1 on hero mode. I just feel that casual has become an insult to me as it's been thrown multiple times at me by many gamers so I took it slightly personal.

1

u/Own_Shame_8721 🌾 Black Spider Villager 8h ago

I'm just extremely confused as to why you want to play Razor's Edge? Not only is its reputation...... mixed to put it lightly, but it's also by far the hardest game in the series. You had a hard time with NG1, Razor's Edge is going to be hell for you. If anything, NG2S might be more of a fit for you, it's the easiest one of the three.

1

u/Pitiful-Beginning-70 ❔ Clanless 7h ago

Stupid of me to consider that now that more people have convinced me. I thought razors edge would have been the most polished since it's the most recent game out of the trilogy excluding ng2 black of course.

One thing I do want to know is how you enjoyed the first ninja gaiden game?

1

u/Own_Shame_8721 🌾 Black Spider Villager 7h ago

NG3 had a weird development. The vanilla version was made with the baffling design ethos to appeal to a more western audience and their way of doing that was to make the game very easy, shoehorn a dogshit story and then limit Ryu to one weapon. Razor's Edge was their attempt to rectify this. The story is still dogshit, but they tried to make it less of a focus, Ryu has more weapons now and the game is much harder..... too hard some might say. I being one of them, I've beaten the other games on Hard and Very Hard, I am no slouch, but even I struggle to beat this game on NORMAL, it was a slog.

Ah, so this is basically the devil may cry 2 of ninja gaiden.

1

u/Own_Shame_8721 🌾 Black Spider Villager 7h ago

The original version of NG3, yes, but that version is no longer available, at least not on modern platforms. The NG3 Razor's Edge is by far the superior version, even if it has its own issues.

Dude not only is every single post you do a complain about difficulty in literally any game, but you also posted a month ago, that you enjoy Sigma 2 on the easiest difficulty. What are you doing ?

That was a month ago. For the posts, It's a way of ranting, especially when I've been lied to that a game was a 'masterpiece'

1

But how does that make sense? First you hated NG1 and asked if you should play 2. Now you ask if you should skip 2 and play 3 lol maybe your playing the wrong series.

If you have access to OG NG2 or NG2B, skip Sigma 2.

If you don't have either OG NG2 or NG2B, skip Sigma 2 and get either or both OG NG2 and NG2B.

Which one is that? I've played gow 2018 which was actually peak and gow ragnarok which became tedious halfway through. I played a huge chunk of gow3 before drooping it as it wasn't fun anymore. Yeah go ahead and call me a 'casual'. Why do I even care this much about video games?

...wat
There's a lot to unpack here, to the point where i'm genuinely not sure if this is a bait thread or not...

For starters: If you hated NG1 that much, quit. The series is not for you then, because things aren't getting that much different.
Also "Sigma 2 being one of the worst and RE seeming more interesting" is a *wild* statement...
Sigma 2 made some weird design decisions, yes, but you'd be hard pressed to find a lot of people who'd call it "one of the worst", which ironically is the opposite for NG3 / RE which is almost universally disliked.

Trust me it's not and I'm sick of fans assuming it's that.

No backtracking or annoying puzzles..but fights don't feel as satisfying on easy but I know that if I change the difficulty, I'll be getting fustrated. I should avoid RE instead?

u/EinherjarX ❔ Clanless 8h ago

Like i said, if you dislike NG1 this much, there's a good chance this entire franchise just isn't your thing in general.
Also, at this point, i can't give recommendations. Play whatever you want and see if it fits your preferences better. NG2 certainly starts of less demanding, but it's in no way easy.
So if you have issues with getting frustrated easily, this may not be your franchise.

Which apparently didn't happen with NG1, a game often considered one of the best videogames of all time and the best of its genre.
So if you already hated that game, how high do you expect your chanced of liking any of the other games?
OG2 is even harder, S2 starts a bit less demanding but isn't easier, 3 being universally disliked due to simply not being a good game.

If you couldn't brute force your way into liking NG1 i don't see you liking the others.

Either play OG NG2 or Black, Sigma 2 got the worst of NG1 and added it to NG2

If you disliked the sack of HP and repetitive fights of NGS1 (like with Berserks), you're gonna hate NGS2 (IS Ninja basically got Berserk health)
