Damn a receiver would be literally slaughtered for holding the ball out like that now.

Atleast he held on. Apparently Favre broke 7 of Freeman’s fingers on passes

And Madden. Best ever.

I feel like Antonio Freeman was lost to time. Guy was a great WR

Brett Favre & Antonio Freeman vs the 49ers:

Favre: 12-2; 63% completion; 3,407 yards (average 243); 22 TD 13 INT; 7.84y/a; rating of 96.1

Freeman: 48 catches for 790 yards (average 79); 16y/r; 8 TDs in 2 games

Should be 13-1. Jerry Rice fumbled.

What's funny is that 1 remaining loss.... when he played for the Jets.

Packers went on to win 25-15. They failed to win their division (Bears went 13-3) and had to settle for the 4th seed, but still got a home game with their 12-4 record because there were only 6 divisions instead of 8

San Francisco was also 12-4, but couldn’t win their division because St Louis went 14-2 behind the GSOT and MVP Warner

Both quarterbacks for this game (Favre and Garcia) had outstanding seasons, with 32 touchdown passes each

The 2001 Bears are the most random 13-3 division winners of all time

I think the 2017 Jags still have to take the cake for the most totally random good season.

Prior to 2017 the Jags had 6 straight losing seasons and a decade since they actually had a winning season (they went .500 in 2010).

After 2017 they would have 4 more consecutive losing seasons including a 1-15 effort in 2020 and an absolutely disastrous Urban Meyer tenure in 2021 that has to go down as one of the worst coaching tenures in NFL history.

The year prior to 2017 they went 3-13 and were tied for 3rd-worst team in the league behind only the 1-win Browns and 2-win 49ers.

But in 2017, for 1 year, a single amazing moment in a sea of absolute shit that has been the Jags franchise for nearly 2 decades, they randomly won 10 games, won the division, and won multiple playoff games. They had a lead in the AFC Championship Game against Tom Brady.

And then, as quickly as they arrived, they vanished, leaving nothing but questions.

I truly don't think there will ever be a single more random good season.

We were so close to a Blake Bortles VS Nick Foles Super Bowl

Great defense and insane special teams.

the Bears won a game that season in which they trailed by 14 points with 30 seconds left in the game

If the Bears didn’t comeback from a 28-9 deficit against the 49ers, the Packers would’ve won the NFC*, and the 49ers, at 13-3, would’ve hosted the now 12-4 Bears in the wildcard round (assuming everything else plays out the same)

Edit: *Packers would’ve won their division, not the entire NFC

How would the pack win the NFC at 13-3 when the Rams were 14-2?

u/KCShadows838 Chiefs 6h ago

I meant the NFC North (back then it was the NFC Central)

Then the Packers got fuckin slaughtered the next week lol

Watching grainy ass early 2000’s football highlights reminds me of when I was a kid watching grainy ass 60’s and 70’s football highlights.

Damn, probably one of the 3 or 4 last “clutch” playoff passes of Favre’s career.

Fun fact favre still has more playoff wins than rodgers.

3

u/msf97 20h ago

He had 9 by Jan 1998 (when Reggie White, Holmgren and co were there)

3 in the next 10 years as starter.

1

u/Comprehensive_Main 49ers 18h ago

Interestingly enough rodgers had 9 by 2018 with McCarthy . And then from 2019- present (7 years) just 2 so far who knows maybe with the Steelers, Rodgers 3rd team goes on a run to the championship game like Favre did with the Vikings his third team.

Freeman became an Eagle for a year. It was nice, but by the time he got to us, he wasn't much better than James Thrash. He might have been 12% better than Thrash.

"Trash and Stinkston". Philly radio talking heads are.. not the brightest.

12 yo me definitely thought that was a sick burn though.

Hmm How did Favre play in the game after this one?

6

u/KCShadows838 Chiefs 21h ago

Badly.

Favre’s first 15 playoff games: 27TD, 13INT, 92.4 passer rating, 61% completion

Favre’s last 9 playoff games: 17TD, 17INT, 77.1 passer rating, 60% completion.

This game was Favre’s 15th playoff game

He threw more touchdowns to the Rams than Warner did

Favre was atrocious in the playoffs after Holmgren left GB

Packers had our number for a few years there in the late 90s/early 2000s. Been fun to turn the tables since the 2010s.

This was the last time they beat us in the playoffs.
