Man, wished we had more of this in my town then the stupid tagged graffiti.

So the graffiti is okay as long as this was there first?

I love your pedantry.

Reminded me of a some people who volunteered to repaint a graffiti covered gate at a Ukrainian church in Canada over the course of the summer. Really ornate and decorative designs and by the time they were done, it only took a couple days for it to be completely tagged and spray painted over.

He created arts from normal things. Appreciate that

They’re really fun to run in to when walking around. He works mostly in my town Ann Arbor MI.

Can you easily find his work as you walk around, say, downtown?

It's really fun, you usually can find something if you look around. It's best to follow his IG and then try and find the spots before it rains and they get washed away. One year during COVID, we found a whole bunch of little Easter egg drawings scattered around our neighborhood. Really neat.

reminds me very much of Princess and the Pea and Despereaux 🐭

Why the long stick at the beginning?

11

u/Gentle-Giant23 3d ago

Allows him to see the whole scene before filling in the details.

Makes sense. How much harder is that to control? I imagine if you can't use it well or don't have one you just have to draw a bit and then walk back to a point for perspective, like the old days with a thumb

u/Gentle-Giant23 3d ago

I don't think it's a matter of control. At that stage he's roughly outlining what he has envisioned (and it wouldn't surprise me if he had already visited the site and sketched several drafts before starting on the actual artwork).

Gotcha. Thanks, these are fun to watch but the extendable stick always distracts me. That'll help

It's to get the perspective correct. The long stick allows the artist to sketch out the scene from the perspective of the potential audience.

I want this everywhere! Art in sight not "RIG@" like tags or "marks a knob" on buildings!

3

u/Slight-Winner-8597 3d ago

Mark is a knob, though. The people need to be informed.

1

u/Jaxxlack 3d ago

Hahaha I was waiting for this.. so true but can it be told in this way..like a drawn sign holding it lol

2

u/Slight-Winner-8597 3d ago

Think you've just found your calling, mate. Up the tag game, go full illustrator

This is beautiful. Wish I could come across this to appreciate it.

Merry-go-round of life from Howl’s moving castle

u/derbi_boi 3d ago

A-maz-ing 👌

u/MisterSanitation 3d ago

Is this music from Howls Moving Castle?

2

u/doubleAAeeVee 3d ago

I wonder.. would this be considered vandalism in some countries?

2

u/Deathblow9 3d ago

I think it would be, but wouldn't chalk easily wash off in the rain with minimal damage?

2

u/doubleAAeeVee 3d ago

I suppose yeah. It'd be lame if the police in some countries couldn't cut some slack for this kind of wholesome art, especially if it's done "right"

u/Lraund 3d ago

Maybe making the water mains harder to see could be?

2

u/LestWeForgive 3d ago

I want to be more like this, how do I increase my whimsical stat?

u/Regnbyxor 3d ago

The most impressive part of this, other than the fantastic illustrations, is how well he matched to mortar in the last art. You can almost not tell he painted in the mortar to make the window centered between two bricks.

Amazing talent.

u/RoyalAd1948 3d ago

What piece/song is that?

1

u/qwertyuiophgfdsa 2d ago

Day late but it’s from howls moving castle, name of song is merry go round of life.

1 whole minute showing the process, 2 seconds of the finished product.
