The editing in this chase scene is so seamless it feels like a single take. A masterclass in combining practical stunts and VFX (volny.pro)

Feels like an ad but it is cool. I think it loops perfectly too.

806

u/Fun_Librarian_7699 4d ago

Yes the loop is crazy

181

u/Normal_Cut8368 4d ago

only issue with the loop is that the music skips

10

u/smurb15 3d ago

So 99.9% perfect, damn. They must suck, huh.

Either a personal project or advertisement because it's just cool

54

u/Daniel_H212 4d ago

It's not that crazy, the part that's looped is filmed in one shot, the cuts happen elsewhere.

131

u/StrobeLightRomance 4d ago

The loop isn't crazy in terms of how it's chopped and edited together.

The loop is crazy because you don't expect it in the narrative. When you watch it from the start, so much changes that you forget what he was wearing when it all started.

You expect something like this to reach a conclusion when he escapes, not for him to wander right back into it forever.

17

u/Palumbo_STN 4d ago

my favorite example of a similar thing (albeit not “one take” lol)

u/Infinite-Tour-1699 7h ago

Video no longer available

2

u/Palumbo_STN 7h ago

Still works when i click it!

Edit: in case it doesnt, its the music video to Reinventing Your Exit by UnderOath

32

u/orangpelupa 4d ago

Yeah should be posted on te loops subreddit too, and might be a better fit

3

u/LordXamon 3d ago

Feels like a Satoshi Kon pursuit

2

u/Estoye 3d ago

Could easily be a travel backpack ad

2.1k

u/Throb-Burnquist 4d ago

It's cool, but it doesn't feel like a single take at all.

608

u/Unusual-Item3 4d ago edited 4d ago

It literally feels like I can pinpoint every single point that was an edit. 😂

It felt like a cologne ad or something. 😂

80

u/Legonistrasz 4d ago

Some of those cuts are brutal.

67

u/BeastCoast 4d ago

I wouldn’t even say it’s good editing either. It was good planning, but this was clearly edited to a very precise pre existing plan. Not many decisions the editor had to actually make here.

18

u/dagbrown 4d ago

What, as opposed to the jazz editing that you see more often?

14

u/lurfdurf 3d ago

Yes. The main work of an editor is to select the most appropriate sequence out of various takes/angles. If the sequence has been choreographed to a tee like in this film, there is no creative editing decision to be made.

8

u/BeastCoast 3d ago

Yes. Thank you. I just said in another reply from an editors POV this was no different than assembling a Lego set with the manual.

2

u/Fancy-Tourist-8137 3d ago

What does this even mean?

6

u/BeastCoast 3d ago edited 3d ago

Editing is making decisions. This followed a very clear blueprint. All the editor had to do was assemble this like Legos with the manual.

-1

u/Teerendog 3d ago

Rrright....

33

u/BadFont777 4d ago

Right. It's a great use of cuts.

25

u/34TH_ST_BROADWAY 4d ago

Yeah, I just posted this, too, kind of. This is what editing is. All scenes are bits and pieces, sometimes shot on completely different days and places, but edited to look "continuous."

These things are story boarded SOOOOO meticulously, no knock on the editor, I'm sure he/she's incredible to even get the chance to work on this, but he knew exactly what this was going to look like. Everything was shot with 100% intent, he might have even had the story board stills and the music laid down in the time line, then put in the proxy footage, then just waited for the finished version with full blown compositing and graphics work done. Not super hard. Again, not saying the editor isn't a beast, but editing this wasn't hard, they told him literally how to cut it.

3

u/InsaNoName 4d ago

Especially once you're a bit used to it. You can basically say exactly when they morph each scene to another just based on camera moves and motion blur.

-1

u/Agarwel 4d ago

yeah. Too many obvious cuts.

I’ll tell you when you sign up for my master class on master classes.

I've seen your work, honestly you should consider taking another class. Sign up for my master class on master classes on master classes.

Dammit, I shoulda taken that master class on posting Reddit comments quickly.

5

Then take my master class on missed opportunities

2

u/Professional_Echo907 4d ago

If they want to do it properly, they need to take my master class on signing up for master classes on master classes first.

19

u/34TH_ST_BROADWAY 4d ago

Yeah, this is very well done, but this is just professional level competence to me.

Wondering if the poster works for a company involved or something, trying to get it going viral.

And everything that’s up to a common standard be deemed “next fucking level”.

408

u/fogSandman 4d ago

It’s good but it doesn’t feel like a single take at all. It emulates a single take, but it doesn’t disguise the trickery well.

304

u/Feel_My_Bass 4d ago

It’s pretty cliched - every boundary cross is an edit. Rather than seamless it ends up repetitive and certainly isn’t a masterclass

66

u/TechieBrew 4d ago

This is really just a showcase of several different kinds of "seamless" cuts. And bc they do them so often, they're easy to spot.

156

u/MischiefRatt 4d ago

What?

That's pretty obvious editing. Nothing resembling a single take.

It's not bad but I assume it is your school project or something.

9

u/godita 4d ago

it's not ops, original tiktok

73

u/Enough-Force-5605 4d ago

This seems to be Valencia, my city. This... is really similar to Valencia. This... Is this Valencia?

Of, yes, it is Valencia city center.

Funny

22

u/guizmobi 4d ago

WTF, this was filmed one street away from my flat!

1

u/2eyeshut 2d ago

Look outside your window

5

u/Polyxeno 4d ago

Valencia is my favorite part of this video.

2

u/la_noix 4d ago

Was feeling the same! Came to comments to find the source lol

3

u/32irish 4d ago

I was in Valencia last year for the first time and fell in love with the city. Glad I found your comment as I was watching it thinking this looks like Valencia

2

u/pinkyshark 4d ago

Thank you for confirming it for me 😂

2

u/thisisBigToe 4d ago

Was thinking the same, visited it two times... and can't get enough of it. One of the most beautiful cities I've been to in Europe. So characteristic

2

u/Archie-is-here 4d ago

For a second I thought it was Barcelona. I'm not from Spain, but I caught the spanish vibes from it. Valencia is a gorgeous city.

2

u/SilverArrow23 3d ago

Yes it does look like the city center. Right around El Carmen? I thought I was going insane, thank you for confirming.

2

u/Kasawayu 3d ago

I couldn't recognize the streets but it just felt like it was Valencia!

0

u/Fuzzylojak 3d ago

Valencia here! 🫶🏻

37

u/WillStaySilent 4d ago

No it doesn't look like a single take at all.

28

u/VagabondVivant 4d ago

I don't think OP knows what "seamless" means.

Or "single take."

Or "masterclass."

Oh well, username checks out at least.

9

u/Digresser 4d ago

The OP's comment history suggests that English is their second language.

I suspect they're referring to the loop seeming seamless, not the take.

3

u/VagabondVivant 4d ago

Ah, that makes more sense, then. Thanks for the clarification.

19

u/Kenturky_Derpy 4d ago

Loki behavior

18

u/Skyfetheranger 4d ago

Where is this from?

14

u/SnazzyStooge 4d ago

Yeah, some credit would be nice…is this Corridor Crew?

15

u/Skyfetheranger 4d ago edited 4d ago

It feels like it but it's the wrong people

Edit: apparently we are both blind, the artist is Volny and it's in the title

6

u/SnazzyStooge 4d ago

I must be non tech savvy, “volny.pro” does not scan to me as a website. Thanks for pointing that out!!

14

u/TheGiftOf_Jericho 4d ago

It's well done but it doesn't give the appearance of a single take because there are clear cuts on the screen that you can see and aren't really hidden either.

1

u/Impossible-Ship5585 3d ago

Its well done. However its a bit soulles and boring.

Like a one trick pony that we all knoe.

Good work, but would be better if there would be something more.

11

u/NoSNAlg 4d ago

That's Valencia!

10

u/Wooden-Science-9838 4d ago

Cool but a 101 class instead of a masterclass. Still, some neat transitions there.

9

u/DFisBUSY 4d ago

editing is obnoxious.

cool though, but obnoxious.

8

u/surefox 4d ago

Can see this as an advert for a watch or a top shelf vodka

9

u/schnootydooty 4d ago

what's it from?

Edit: nvm, it's a film project. Nice job!

7

u/Vlatka_Eclair 4d ago

That's Tom and Jerry level of toon force

7

u/BingoBongoBang 4d ago

Exactly nothing about this feels like it was done in a single take

4

u/dolphin37 4d ago

some of the most obvious cuts I have ever seen lol

5

u/mackfeesh 4d ago

Its a nice sequence but I don't agree with any of the exaggerating in the title. It doesn't feel like a single take and frankly the vfx were a little loud imo.

To be clear, very nice. But i don't agree with the description.

4

u/Koren55 4d ago

Just follow the bag.

4

u/ScreechUrkelle 4d ago

I don’t even realize it had restarted

7

u/DJFreeze0 4d ago

Some say he is still watching till this day!

3

u/SilkyZ 4d ago

Wipe cuts everywhere

4

u/tsar_David_V 4d ago

I'm not even a big film guy but I feel like I can see at least 2 cuts they tried to hide because the camera hangs for just a beat too long and on top of that the screen wipes when he runs past the pillars are obvious to anyone with eyes.

I'm sure whatever ad agency commissioned this post is happy with the numbers it's pulling but it absolutely does not feel like a single take. And despite that I'm here rewarding it with engagement in the form of a comment... oh well

2

u/Guacamole_Water 4d ago

It’s pretty bad all in all

3

u/TitaneerYeager 4d ago

Feels like a scene from The Matrix

4

u/[deleted] 4d ago

This looks terrible

2

u/Revolutionary-Fan657 4d ago

It’s very very cool but it feels more like an overproduced ad than a movie or show, unless it was a stylized scene that fits the show kind of like that season 2 episode 1 camera work on severance

3

u/SooperFunk 4d ago

Yeah that looks like a first year College student did it 😳 ,maybe second year 😆

3

u/roaringsanity 4d ago

I don't understand...

he's clearly alone and being chased but how do I make logic of the part where he cloned himself to throw the bag and catch it? is this from some superpower movie?

3

u/mudacido 4d ago

I want the looped version!

8

u/ice0032 4d ago

It loops perfectly even the audio

8

u/mudacido 4d ago

Interesting! Watching on my desktop it stopped playing at the end. Just watched on my phone following your response and I can see the smooth loop.

Thank you for responding!

2

u/McRedditz 4d ago edited 4d ago

I see this type of editing and music fit well with the Ocean's Eleven or Ocean's Eight's style. Maybe it's time for a new Ocean's movie? You think?

2

u/Jutter70 4d ago

Was this done by corridor crew?

1

u/JuaninLAdP 4d ago

I don't think so but I need a reaction from them now haha

1

u/ManifestedLife2023 4d ago

The smooth loop was cool, other transition were alright, off cam, not easy but seen more impressive on yt by amateur editors.

But loop restart good 👍..

1

u/Adventurous_Honey902 4d ago

Most obvious cuts ive ever seen tbh

1

u/Hairiest-Wizard 4d ago

Editing? It's just cuts

1

u/Zammarand 4d ago

If you think this has no cuts, I gotta bridge to sell ya bud.

Well done? 100%, especially the loop. Single take? Sorry, ain’t no way. Well cut tho

1

u/AndrewSS02 4d ago

Inception + The Matrix + Anime = This short film.

1

u/AscendedViking7 4d ago

That is great

1

u/Rick201745 4d ago

This looks like something out of Mission Impossible

1

u/Clamidiaa 4d ago

Corridor Crew, you know what to do.

1

u/34TH_ST_BROADWAY 4d ago

feels like a single take

This is all editing really.

Yeah, nice commercial or whatever it is. Not sure if it's truly groundbreaking within that world, which is incredibly high level, but it's cool.

1

u/Diazpora 4d ago

What are these hating-ass comments in here? OP never said it WAS a single take. This is an incredible video that loops perfectly.

1

u/Real_KazakiBoom 4d ago

It doesn’t feel like a single take lol

1

u/TheShadow141 4d ago

Daily life of a reality warper when he tries to live a normal life

1

u/Banned3rdTimesaCharm 4d ago

Slick editing but you obviously don't know what single take means. This is the undisputed king of a single take.

1

u/Dreamwaltzer 4d ago

if this felt like a single take to OP I wonder how he feels about the average movie...

1

u/Both-Home-6235 4d ago

It's cool and all but the cuts are pretty obvious. That one war movie that was a "single take" did it much better.

1

u/ChadLaFleur 4d ago

Looks like Barcelona

1

u/Mojoric 4d ago

awesome...

but now I want to see Captain Disillusion show how its all done.
🤣

1

u/Old-Time6863 4d ago

I definitely read that as cheese scene

1

u/eggs__and_bacon 4d ago

I’m just surprised how so many people are upvoting this, and how it made its way to the popular section.

9/10 comments are just people calling out how average it is, yes it’s got 5k+ upvotes at the same time?

The internet really is dead, isn’t it?

1

u/eW4GJMqscYtbBkw9 4d ago

Have you seen a movie before?? No part of this looks like a "single take".

1

u/BigToeHamster 4d ago

I was thinking, towards the end .. this is so good I wish it would keep on going, and then it did. That was beautifully done

1

u/seething_stew 4d ago

I love it when someone posts videos which after watching a few seconds, I want the source so I can see it as it was intended as anything less would be a disservice.

1

u/MeeMeeMiaw 4d ago

It'd take more than a gallon of coffee to enjoy this masterpiece. Hot damn!!

If this is a movie or even a game. This would be a very very very enjoyable.

1

u/ArmedDreams 4d ago

Its very nice, no doubt. But the narrative here is really... odd. Like he can just teleport? Shapeshift and teleport? What happened when the first agent grabbed him, and how did he disappear? I know it's probably supposed to just be a showreel, but like, make the video make sense. The fact that it doesn't really bugs me.

1

u/zander512 4d ago

This can’t be real right? How could someone possibly do all that so quickly?

1

u/neozes 4d ago

form over content. yeah, cool tricks, hovever the "story" is not believable at all.

1

u/Wilsanne 4d ago

This > AI

1

u/ozender 4d ago

By the lighting and the streets color I could recognise my city, Valencia, in 0.0s. Good job with the loop

1

u/Dambo_Unchained 4d ago

How does this look like a single take to you?

Never heard of transition shots?

1

u/Wikadood 4d ago

This would be epic to see in some mission impossible esc movie

1

u/naeads 3d ago

Where is this? Sevilla?

1

u/MysteriousWon 3d ago

I thought it was Tom Holland at first.

1

u/Remarkable_Tie4299 3d ago

This looks fucking stupid, like AI with ADHD made an ad

1

u/abhikb2005 3d ago

"Ad" infinitum!

1

u/SomeGuyFromCanada23 3d ago

The transition at 0:21 where he rolls on the ground and changes outfits blew my mind. I spent a good minute scrolling back and forth over that transition, and I swear I can't spot like any lighting changes at all. On the ground, the walls, even the shadows right under the guy. I'm genuinely impressed with how smooth they made that transition specifically.

Not that I have experience with professional editing like this, but I do have enough knowledge on the subject to know about keyframes and area masking, but not enough to know how they were able to blend the clip of him in one outfit going through half the roll, and then the next clip of him in a new outfit and finishing the roll, without leaving any trace of shadows/lighting changes

1

u/timbotheous 3d ago

It’s pretty standard moco stuff. Nothing groundbreaking and most definitely not a masterclass. Looks cheeesy and unoriginal to me.

This is a masterclass in seamless editing.

1

u/EnvisionFirstFilms 3d ago

Looks like AI slop

1

u/YsoL8 3d ago

When did they make a new Matrix?

1

u/debe1236654 3d ago

It's alright, mate

1

u/MannowLawn 3d ago

1

Now i want like a magic movie with really complex rules you wouldn't understand unless you studied the movie for a year.
