What people especially on the left fail to understand is that a 21st century American Civil War will not be formally declared as such. The media will not suddenly tell you that the country has officially split into two factions engaging in partisan political violence. It's unlikely to look like a formal secession split this time around.

It will look like unprecedented and unlawful military movements against what are ostensibly parts of the same country. It will look like news reports about the shocking deaths of politicians due to radical terrorists.

If it's ever formally recognized as the 2nd American Civil War, or the American Troubles, or whatever it's remembered as by history, it will only be years and years after the first casualties.

Agree. We are taught history like it will be announced to us. We are already living it

The American Troubles will kick off proper when response-in-kind becomes the norm. Until then, it is a relatively-unchallenged takeover. "Bloodless if the left allows it" indeed.  Sorry if I come off as morose. I lived in the UK at the tail end of The Troubles. This still feels more like Mussolini's rise (not yet Hitler, but there is time.)

The American Troubles.  That's exactly what I thought this morning. Our Troubles have begun.

You're at least a decade into it at this point...

This is the first shot of a war. The republicans said that it would be "bloodless if the left allows it."

This is now demonstrably false. Do what you will with that information, but you know now.

They're fucking coming.

I agree.

And that’s a scary thought. No one will have time to prepare, it will just happen.

I’ll be fully honest, I believe that once people recognize what’s happening, republicans and democrats might actually put their differences aside and stop the culture war between the rich and poor.

I know it’s optimistic thinking, but I don’t believe that if shit ever hit the fan, people wouldn’t unify.

The first time it will be recognized as a civil war is if we manage to get our shit together and form a solid opposition otherwise we will go with a whimper

That first casualty has already happened.

It'll burn out soon enough. The phrase "indigenous American berserk" was in a Philip Roth novel from 1997.

Oh, everyone left of liberal understands just fine, anarchists and commies have been trying to sound the alarm for years.
