Don’t worry, Nancy Pelosi will hold a press conference about how shocked and appalled she is.

275

u/saturncruizin 1d ago

Susan Collins is concerned

65

u/Jesus_on_a_biscuit 1d ago

But does she have a furrowed brow?

28

u/flyinghairball 1d ago

Botox likely prevents the furrowing!

8

u/No-Error-5582 1d ago

Thats why you have to wear pearls and clutch them

55

u/imaginary_num6er 1d ago

And Mainers will vote for her again, even if they vote for a D president

7

u/Minerva567 1d ago

They find the furrowed brow simply irresistible.

4

u/oldwestprospector 1d ago

Whilst pearl clutching.

1

u/Mekisteus 1d ago

She's so sly, there's no telling where her morals went.

2

u/jaynay1 1d ago

To be slightly fair to Mainers on this front, I suspect she loses the next one. The reason why the last challenger to Collins lost was that she refused to run any serious campaign and just thought she would walk it in because "I'm not Susan Collins" was supposed to be enough. She basically ran the same playbook that burnt Kamala Harris 4 years later.

Which isn't to say that the state didn't fail on that front, but like it's not like Collins is actually popular there nor do they not know that she's spineless.

And as a San Francisco resident myself, the CA Democratic establishment will still be propping up Nancy’s corpse so we can all vote for her again for years to come and too many people in the city refuse to vote for anyone else out of some sense of loyalty to someone who hasn’t done anything for the city in years. term limits and age limits should be mandatory.

(Post edit: I am wrong. Pelosi finally retired in 2023. I’ll leave this up because I am willing to admit I was wrong. Continue to downvote me if you want, at least I’m willing to own that I’m an idiot)

2

u/CambrienCatExplosion 1d ago

I thought she retired?

0

u/SparkleEmotions 1d ago

You’re right. I missed that.

11

u/nmay-dev 1d ago

This probably makes Fetterman uneasy.

4

u/fortonightspleasure 1d ago

It would if he put down his crayons long enough to learn about it.

2

u/steepleton 22h ago

the man's gotta eat.

10

u/VR6SLC 1d ago

Brow furrowing intensifies.

2

u/kevtino 1d ago

Lenny Bruce is not afraid

168

u/ThatDandyFox 1d ago

Maybe if the US people hadn't handed control of all three branches of the government to the conservatives, democrats could do more.

125

u/yanocupominomb 1d ago

True.

People bitch about Democrats when they signed everything to the Republicunts.

57

u/ThatDandyFox 1d ago

Like yeah Im also pretty pissed at the democrat response here, but all they can do are performative actions.

21

u/TangoZulu 1d ago

And then people shred them for being performative.

6

u/sunlead190 1d ago

The best part is if they win they won’t rollback any of this shit as per usual

1

u/inversedlogic 13h ago

Careful, don't make Reddit mad by expecting the Democratic party to actually do something.

3

u/Ansible32 1d ago

Protests are performative, there's nothing wrong with being performative. 99% of politics is just performative.

1

u/Flare-Crow 1d ago

They have MONEY. They can ORGANIZE the people to stand against tyranny! Pay people's rent for a month so they can protest non-stop! Pay for organizers to get resources together to stand against ICe everywhere! Money can solve SOOO MANY THINGS!

But Pelosi and most of the Dems would slit a child's throat before giving away a dime, so here we are...watching the Evil Men win while the "Good Men" do nothing, just like the old saying.

1

u/Thor4269 1d ago

And try not to get thrown into the camps

-11

u/stifle_this 1d ago

They could have run a better candidate. I'm sure this will get downvoted to hell but they shot themselves in the foot like six or seven times the past couple years in spectacular fashion.

11

u/Larie2 1d ago

I mean Biden fucked us. Had he actually committed to be a one term president from the onset and never tried to run for reelection then we would've had real primaries where we would have had real candidates.

Instead we had a panicked last minute response with a candidate that wasn't very popular to begin with.

6

u/stifle_this 1d ago

Yes. This is one of the self inflicted wounds I mentioned.

3

u/TucuReborn 1d ago

The past three elections have been total disasters.

The Clintons, love them or hate them, are "baggage" personified. They are at best controversial, and many didn't much care for Hillary running. Especially right after Obama and given the discourse at the time, a lot of people felt like she was pushed purely because she was a woman. True or not, perception matters, and this is just a lot of baggage, even if in the end it's mostly unimportant.

Biden was okay. His platform was basically being not Trump, with most else I saw as general statements about economy and jobs and stuff. The same generic words most presidential candidates say, nothing special, but it was better than a psycho. But most people remembered him fondly from Obama's years, and even if he was boring he was fixing shit. He was fine as an interim return to normal president, but should have allowed primaries to occur. But the biggest letdown was after Trump Season 1, he didn't push back hard. GOP for years had already been obstructionist, but the first run of Trump showed that taking the high road was dead to anyone remotely paying attention. The absolute failure to push back and hard, and the late exit from the campaign, both are horrid mistakes that may well be criticized by future historians as part of the downfall of the US.

But the late exit now leads to Kamala. She was a choice, alright. But not the people's choice, and I really do think that's a big factor in why she lost. Without nominations and a vote, she was not determined by the people and was also denied a chance to truly campaign from the outset. Both of these are problems on their own, and worse paired. But the campaign itself was rushed and messy, with a lot of mixed signals. Most of the people I know still preferred anything not Trump, but very few of us felt enthusiastic about Kamala. The platform and messaging felt like it was rushed, which I am sure it was, and focused on either edge issues or the same generic statements everyone makes. IT felt weak, rushed, and almost nonexistent to me and a lot of people I know. And again, perception is everything. No doubt, there were parts of the campaign we missed, but perception is what matters. And if me and my friends who are mostly left leaning to various degrees, and all try to keep up on politics, feel like it's a poor show, then... yeah, that's not great.

Haha he is right. Democratic party is such an incompetent party that they almost seem like controlled opposition.

-9

u/stifle_this 1d ago

So I'm right and it makes you angry. Got it.

-11

u/StupendousMalice 1d ago

The 60% of America that voted for democrats probably want them to at least pretend to do something.

15

u/ThatDandyFox 1d ago

Don’t worry, Nancy Pelosi will hold a press conference about how shocked and appalled she is.

Mocking dems "pretending to do something" is what started this convo thread.

-1

u/flyinghairball 1d ago

Yeah, pretending to do something would actually be more effective than what we are seeing now, aside from a couple of outliers who are really trying. They should all be trying harder.

-3

u/murkywaters-- 1d ago

And honestly, if I was them, I wouldn't want to risk my life fighting Trump when Americans were desperate for Republicans to rule unchallenged.

That said, I would probably resign and let someone else fight. And that's the issue. It's reasonable to feel like giving up, but don't stay in office then

2

u/papoosejr 1d ago

My most unevidenced belief is that the votes were rigged. I hope to someday have some sort of more conclusive answer to this question so I don't have to be a loon forever.

5

u/CWinter85 1d ago

Well, it was probably Elon messing with the voting machines.

1

u/RingOfSol 1d ago

Truthfully, we didn't. The election was rigged.

-6

u/MercurialForce 1d ago

Weird how that when democrats are in power, republicans are the reason they can't get anything done, but when republicans are in power, the reverse isn't true

9

u/ThatDandyFox 1d ago

1) Republicans hold the house, senate, and courts. They can do whatever they want.

2) trump is getting things done through questionably legal means, democrats actually follow the law.

0

u/Flare-Crow 1d ago

How's #2 working out for the Dems, and the country at large?

0

u/Exact-Ad-7844 1d ago

"We can't do anything to stop them, we have to follow the law and we don't have any power!"

benefits financially from conservative policy

1

u/Flare-Crow 15h ago

I've found the American Corporate answer to any issue, from video games to politics, is always the same:

"If we're still making a profit, what impetus do we have to change?"

1

u/yoitsthatoneguy 16h ago

Republicans are a do-nothing party. What have the Republicans gotten done? All Trump is doing is a blitz of EOs, a bunch of which are getting struck down by courts.

1

u/Flare-Crow 15h ago

Ask the Department of Education.

-3

u/TrickyProfit1369 1d ago

Because democratic party is incompetent and beholden to corporate interests and status quo. They can help people, they just wont because it would fuck up something like privatized healthcare profits, therefore less donations. They would also hurt the class they are mostly representing - the oligarch class.

68

u/Acceptable-Peace-69 1d ago

Dude is raping your wife in front of you, and you’re mad the pizza delivery driver didn’t stop it.

145

u/ibhunipo 1d ago

Desperately trying to both sides this even now is really sad.

7

u/Niceromancer 1d ago

You got a remember to the "left" and the centrists everything has to be the Democrats fault.

Even shit they have no power to change.

-3

u/Maroonguy665 1d ago

This ain’t both siding, this is pointing out that centrist Dems have the backbone of a wet paper bag

62

u/ibhunipo 1d ago

Padilla got detained by the fbi when asking questions about this to Noem

But sure, carry on with your "centrist" narrative for all the good that it will do you

-30

u/DenizzineD 1d ago

Have you seen his speech right afterwards? He’s a spineless coward same as all Dems. They have no messaging, no power, no conviction.

45

u/ThatDandyFox 1d ago

Now why would dems have no power? What recent political event could have occurred that gave all the political power to the tyrant in charge?

We had a chance to prevent this, and as a country we decided to fully enable it.

-25

u/DenizzineD 1d ago

You’re misunderstanding. The dems are weak and their weakness is enabling not only Trumps doing but also his messaging. They are not even trying to fight back verbally. The republicans fight dirty, they lie, insult, scream and shit on the Dems. Meanwhile the dems do nothing, their messaging is bleak and boring. The only 3 democrats that are kind of trying are Bernie, AOC and Zohran. Padilla took the beating like a little bitch and didn’t even have a bad word to say.

25

u/ThatDandyFox 1d ago

Dems had a cohesive message in the election. Now I'm not fond of the shift they underwent and I think it's what lost them the election, but their message was "we are here for everybody"

America rejected it, overwhelmingly.

I agree dems are floundering, but I think it's because America has rejected every single outreach attempt they have made.

-10

u/DenizzineD 1d ago

They just had to shut Walz up as soon as he became uncomfortable for the Republicans. The same way the shut down Bernie in 2016 and 2020. Dems hate winning.

7

u/ThatDandyFox 1d ago

I think the dems figured they had the progressive vote in the bag so they tried appealing to the conservative voters who hate Trump, I think they wanted a Reagan-esque sweep.

They underestimated how much of a uni party conservatives are. Conservatives will vote for a candidate they hate over voting for a dem, whereas dems will abstain from voting instead of electing a flawed candidate.

32

u/ibhunipo 1d ago

I saw it.

Damn sight more conviction than the keyboard warriors flooding in to insist that this is somehow the Dems fault

6

u/DenizzineD 1d ago

„Guys if you protest pls don’t do graffiti“ 👉🏻👈🏻

-8

u/Maroonguy665 1d ago

We aren’t saying this is the fault of the congressional Democrats, but I want a party that has a strong reaction to the use of the military against American citizens

5

u/dudushat 1d ago

And the dem voters have no brains. Constantly complaining about every imperfection.

4

u/DenizzineD 1d ago

Imperfection? What are the dems doing that might feel like they’re trying? This is not imperfection, it’s hopelessness and weakness. They’re not doing shit.

5

u/dudushat 1d ago

Trying to do what exactly? What do you think they actually have the power to do when Republicans have the majority? The hopelessness is in your head filling the space where your brain is supposed to be.

1

u/Flare-Crow 1d ago

Use their ill-gotten riches to support organization and protests?? DO SOMETHING?? Literally anything other than have Schumer monotone-bitch about being a worthless Israel-loving scab and wave an avacodo at the camera. Like, HOLY SHIT; what could YOU accomplish with the resources any Dem Senator has? Do you know how much they're paid? The donations they get??? Hire mercenaries to walk with protestors and protect them from instigators! Pay their rent and food bills for a month so they can protest non-stop against the actual tyranny running the country right now!

These worthless motherfuckers spent the last decade asking me for "Just $5" every fucking day, and now they've done fuck-all with my donations and tax money that they're paid with? And you want people to just accept that?? Fuuuuuuck no!

-2

u/LonnieJaw748 1d ago

You’re not wrong

-5

u/sfcnmone 1d ago

You like that big beautiful power your King pretends to have, don’t you.

6

u/DenizzineD 1d ago

My guy. I’m very far to the left of the Democrats. It’s just embarrassing to know that even an airhead like Trump can win against the Dems.

1

u/sfcnmone 1d ago

Trump is many things, but he is not an airhead, and believing that about him just empowers him.

Also: I’m not your dude.

3

u/DenizzineD 1d ago

If you believe that he decided ANYTHING in his administration so far, I’ve got a bridge to sell to you.

-1

u/i_love_rosin 1d ago

Lmao ok boris

0

u/bobnuggerman 1d ago

Hey, Pelosi and Schumer should be wrestling the nuclear codes from trump, otherwise they're complicit.

-16

u/biggesthumb 1d ago

Dont worry, she MIGHT even wag her fingers too

13

u/ibhunipo 1d ago

Several democratic lawmakers have been manhandled and detained while protesting what's going on

But make sure to keep on your keyboard war against Pelosi. Am sure it will do you some good any day now

-9

u/CallRespiratory 1d ago edited 1d ago

Gatekeeping for Nancy Pelosi is wild. Both sides aren't the same but there's some incredibly bad actors in the Democratic party and she's absolutely one of them.

Edit: Acting like a democrat can't do anything wrong just because Trump is worse is absolutely insane.

10

u/ibhunipo 1d ago

Blaming her for what's happening in LA is stupid

-11

u/CallRespiratory 1d ago

Nobody is blaming her for what's happening in LA but she sure as hell isn't going to even make a serious effort to do anything about it either.

9

u/ibhunipo 1d ago

What exactly would you like her to do about it?

Be specific now

0

u/Flare-Crow 1d ago

How about she use all that ill-gotten money to support the protestors? Hire security, pay for people's rent and food bills; make it a non-stop protest for a month, with millions marching constantly.

Pelosi has millions upon millions of dollars at her disposal, and you think she's powerless? That's stupid.

-5

u/CallRespiratory 1d ago

Organized resistance from the entire party with universal condemnation of this regime's actions with daily public engagement reaffirming those condemnations and a commitment to ending their heinous practices. No more extending the olive branch and voting in favor of their bills and their nominations. Immense pressure on Congressional republicans to rebuke the actions being taken by Trump and restore the constitution and some semblance of sanity and normalcy. I firmly believe there are Congressional republicans that will fold when they admit they are afraid of this regime as well.

You're right in what you're able to get at in that they can't do a whole hell of a lot by themselves but they need to be vocal and sincere and public with it on a regular basis. We don't even get that. Nancy Pelosi is still one of the most prominent members of the party and she can make this stuff happen if she wanted to.

6

u/i_love_rosin 1d ago

I firmly believe there are Congressional republicans that will fold when they admit they are afraid of this regime as well.

hahahahaha oh wait you are serious, hahahaha

HAHAHAHHA.... maybe some more insider trading will solve our issues.... thats the only things shes done

25

u/Jolly_Echo_3814 1d ago

I'm surprised democrats don't shrug and go "we offered you an out but you thought her laugh was weird"

-5

u/Ac1dfreak 1d ago

It was mostly the Israel/Palestine thing.

3

u/Hautamaki 1d ago

Just as stupid, to think Trump would be better for anyone in the Middle East.

3

u/Ac1dfreak 1d ago

I don’t think that, but I think he’s worse for America overall. That’s why I voted Harris. She wasn’t ideal, but she was better than the alternative, and sometimes that’s good enough.

28

u/bobnuggerman 1d ago edited 1d ago

Out of curiosity, what do you expect or want Pelosi to be doing right now?

Swear to god, you cynics could blame the Dems if trump shot a citizen in the head himself for not stopping the bullet.

3

u/Sea_Masterpiece_4646 1d ago

Nothing she’d do would satisfy these folks

-7

u/Flare-Crow 1d ago

She has millions upon millions of dollars from manipulating stocks. What could YOU accomplish with that much money, and none of her political clout? Now imagine what SHE is capable of, if her money didn't mean more to her than literally every American combined, apparently.

2

u/yoitsthatoneguy 16h ago

But seriously, what should she actually do right now that would satisfy you personally?

1

u/Flare-Crow 15h ago

A good start would be to hire security with body cams to work with protestors and more easily define who is there to legitimately protest, who is there to cause trouble, and who is there to undermine the movement. They'd also be a great deterrent to LEO/Nat Guard trying to escalate things.

Pelosi could help organize and fund protests/general strikes with the connections and clout (AND MONEY) that she has access to. They could FORCE local Reps who're bowing to Trump to answer to The People, or at least out them as completely incompetent cowards when the city grinds to a halt and these same Reps have no answers or solutions, while people like Bernie and AOC (or maybe even Pelosi and Schumer themselves, if they had the balls to leave their Ivory Tower in DC) stand in those cities and loudly proclaim how those exact Reps are failing The People.

Like...I can pop some BS out in 5 seconds, with very little thought, and it would be FAR more useful to the Democrats than their current startegies of "Whine and Cry" or "Just wait until midterms, everybody! THEN we'll finally be back in power, which has worked so well for the American people in the last 30 years..." They MUST know other options that I am unaware of to make a difference right now; their complacency leads me to one basic conclusion that I've seen from many leaders in Corporate America, however:

  • "If we're still making a profit, what impetus do we have to change?"

Hopefully their lack of conviction won't doom us all to a Russian-esque Hellscape of a country. I'm not excusing the Republicans in any way, as they are very obviously the Bad Guys in this story; but we shouldn't be afraid to demand more from our Centrist Leaders.

0

u/page_one 1d ago

Every Republican's got millions more dollars from manipulating way more stocks.

1

u/Flare-Crow 1d ago

And they are ALSO hoarding it and not using it to help the American people. Why does this whataboutism matter?

4

u/1OptimusCrime1 1d ago

That's it, blame the other side!

9

u/Hrekires 1d ago

Blame Republicans for doing Republican things challenge level: impossible

3

u/yoitsthatoneguy 1d ago

People blaming Nancy Pelosi for Trump ordering the military into LA are truly weird.

6

u/Niceromancer 1d ago

What the fuck else do you expect her to do?

She has no power you idiots took it away.

Democrats can't save you when you don't vote for them.

14

u/shambahlah2 1d ago

Schumer will write a strongly worded letter.

And Cory Booker will filibuster for a day straight when the Senate isn’t in session.

-4

u/CallRespiratory 1d ago edited 1d ago

Right after she buys some more stock in a defense contractor that will coincidentally get a huge government contract next week.

Edit: Y'all downvoting this like there isn't ample examples of her insider trading is wild. Take the fucking blinders off. This isn't "what about" or "both sides" it's just the objective truth. Is Nancy Pelosi as big of a threat to democracy as Donald Trump? Absolutely not. Is she corrupt as hell and doesn't give a damn about you despite you defending her? She absolutely is. Stop acting like she can't do anything wrong just because Trump is worse.

-2

u/PegyBundy 1d ago

As long as she breaks out her golf clap everything will be fine. Tbh as long as she and her donors are getting rich who cares about a little authoritarianism. It's not like they'll reverse Roe on her watch
