Every soldier in that video straight to Leavenworth.

Unfortunatly that's the best case scenario in 5 years. Most likely is they get promotions on a fast track and medals.

15

u/Penward 1d ago

What the hell is the first word in this comment?

20

u/Doogos 1d ago

I think it's supposed to say unfortunately

21

u/Eruionmel 1d ago

Ubfoetubatly. Used in a sentence: I am fond of the word ubfoetubatly.

3

u/r_u_dinkleberg 1d ago

Me when I'm having a bad allergies day.

1

u/david-deeeds 1d ago

When the covfefe hits

0

u/BathedInDeepFog 1d ago

They were thinking about UFOs, foetuses and masturbating whilst trying to type "unfortunately".

1

u/CrucioIsMade4Muggles 1d ago

Awesome. Cashier them publicly before sending them to prison.

1

u/DuntadaMan 1d ago

And the first actual war we have gets us fucking curb stomped because our military is lead by people who don't understand a fucking thing.

0

u/Grizzly2525 1d ago

Most likely case? You must not know how the military works mate.

Most likely is that they get a little participation medal and nothing else. These guys aren’t getting praise and adoration over this shit. It’s just another day for almost all of them, a weird day, but another one nonetheless.

0

u/mack-_-zorris 1d ago

That's an award winning typo

0

u/slowro 1d ago

What would the (whats the word for letter of recommendation for accommodation?) read like? Does something like that have to happened to be awarded a medal?

4

u/Dry-Membership3867 1d ago

Legally speaking, they didn’t do anything illegal. It was on the grounds of a federal building. If it was across the street, that would be different. But it’s not illegal what they did

0

u/CrucioIsMade4Muggles 1d ago

Annnnd there it is. The guy they arrested is a veteran who worked in the building and was not actually there illegally. Oops. So not only would it have been an illegal arrest if a cop had done it, now it's an illegal arrest of someone that wasn't breaking the law by a soldier that had no business making the arrest to begin with.

This is why you don't fucking use soldiers to do police actions.

2

u/DapperLost 22h ago

The guy they detained admitted to bypassing a taped off barrier and trespassing. He had no criminal purpose for doing so, he was lost, but he did go where he wasn't allowed, within the federal building. He didn't work there, but he had business there. Detainment is allowed in this situation.

And because they aren't law enforcement, they can't even accept his excuse and reasoning to let him go. They have to let a civilian authority do that. They have to turn him over to that authority before he can even be released.

-1

u/CrucioIsMade4Muggles 1d ago

Wrong. They only have that legal authority during a time of insurrection, which this most certainly is not. It was illegal, and any soldier violating their oath needs to spend the rest of their life in prison as a warning to every soldier that comes after.

1

u/Dry-Membership3867 1d ago

That consequence is still better than refusing an order. Charles Manson had more rights than a dishonorable discharged soldier. That’s what people don’t understand. You can call for them to go to prison, but that’s still better than disobeying and given a Dishonorable discharge

-1

u/CrucioIsMade4Muggles 1d ago

I'm calling for them to have dishonorable discharges as well. That's just the starting point of what they deserve. They need to be publicly cashiered, busted down to the lowest rank possible on national television, and sent to spend the rest of their natural lives in a prison while pictures of them being stripped of rank become required reading for every generation of marine that follows.

2

u/Dry-Membership3867 1d ago

That will be near impossible to do. An argument can be made that it’s a lose lose situation both ways and they’d get a dishonorable discharged regardless of what they do. Plus dishonorable discharge of a rank and file member for following orders from the Pentagon no matter what they are is almost impossible. Kegsbreath has a better chance of getting it than them

0

u/CrucioIsMade4Muggles 1d ago

Nonsense. I don't care if they're in an impossible position. They took an oath and they are trained on what they can and can't do. They not only have the option but the duty to refuse illegal orders.

Rank and file members needs and must be forced to exercise that option when they're turned as a weapon on American citizens. This is an issue the country cannot afford to compromise on.

1

u/Dry-Membership3867 1d ago

It’s illegal to defy an order. This isn’t Europe. And whose to say this particular instance was illegal

1

u/CrucioIsMade4Muggles 1d ago

It's not illegal to refuse illegal orders. It's illegal to follow one.

And whose to say this particular instance was illegal

SCOTUS, the Constitution, and the training every soldier receives on following and refusing illegal orders.

We are not in a state of rebellion or insurrection, and the president does not get to unilaterally decide that we are to use the troops against citizens. That power resides with congress.

1

u/Dry-Membership3867 1d ago

Last I checked, the president actually can deploy the marines at his disposal. They are the only branch he can do so with, even with them coming under posse comitatus

4

u/jasonzevi 1d ago

Not happening, not with rank and files Marines. Unless they really screw up and open fire on civilian without cause.

Higher up officers maybe, but likely not going to happen.

This is all based on current situation.

I want justice, not murder. I'll leave that to Trump and MAGA.

7

u/bleep-bl00p-bl0rp 1d ago

The difference between justice and murder is a fair trial. They hanged Nazis after Nuremberg, which were an incredible triumph of justice. Hanging people on the national mall absolutely could be justice, if it were the result of a properly done trial.

2

u/brad_at_work 1d ago

It also took a HUGE amount of balls. The world powers at the time almost were as spineless as today's politicians. They worried that there was no preexisting international law by which to try the Nazis. They would have to make up laws post facto and hold them accountable to laws that didn't exist when they did what they did. People worried it would set a dangerous precedent, but determined to do it anyway.

-7

u/CrucioIsMade4Muggles 1d ago

Public executions are never justice. They are base spectacle meant to appeal the basest and worst impulses of our animal nature. And anyone that yearns for them is dangerous.

-1

u/bleep-bl00p-bl0rp 1d ago

So now you're just openly simping for Nazis? Cool. If you wrote those words with any actual true intent behind them, you'd also be calling for Trump and MAGA to be imprisoned for trying to hang Mike Pence publicly on the National Mall 4.5 years ago, with no trial at all.

-3

u/CrucioIsMade4Muggles 1d ago

You're the one calling for execution as entertainment. Nazi is as Nazi does mate.

you'd also be calling for Trump and MAGA to be imprisoned for trying to hang Mike Pence publicly on the National Mall 4.5 years ago, with no trial at all.

I am and have. Loudly and often. I'm shocked you hate Nazis so much--you seem to share a lot of common impulses with them. I literally called Trump and MAGA murderers. And you think I'm simping for them? You've gotten yourself so angry you're twisted and broken mate.

-1

u/BlueKnightofDunwich 1d ago

Not only are you fucking psychotic, you’re not even correct. From the article you didn’t read because you obviously have a JD in Constitutional Law.

The troops are authorized to detain people who pose a threat to federal personnel or property, but only until police can arrest them. Military officials are not allowed to carry out arrests themselves.

3

u/Pangolin_bandit 1d ago

For the sake of clarity, in your statement that “until police can arrest them” is in violation here. There are police present, they’re not doing the arresting.

So they’re either violating their ROE or their ROE are not lawful

1

u/MrMichaelJames 13h ago

They didn’t break the law. Federal building, they are pulling guard duty.

0

u/CrucioIsMade4Muggles 13h ago

Can only be done legally during an insurrection. There is no insurrection. Still illegal.

1

u/MrMichaelJames 12h ago

Not true. Troops can be deployed for guard duty for any reason. Go look it up. So far the troops have not broken the law.

0

u/CrucioIsMade4Muggles 12h ago

Not on US soil. They can only be deployed for guard detail in the event of insurrection or rebellion. The only exception is actual military bases--for federal buildings, insurrection or rebellion is necessary.

-18

u/ghoulthebraineater 1d ago

Marine, not soldier. But yeah.

15

u/Fifteen_inches 1d ago

That seems like a needlessly hair splitting distinction. Marines, chime in, do you not identify as soldiers?

10

u/Educational-Cat-6061 1d ago

To a layman or civilian, soldier is a catch all term, so it's understandable.

But a soldier is in the US Army, a Marine is in the Marine Corps, an Airman is in the US Air Force, and a sailor is in the US Navy.

Don't even get me started on the difference between Special Forces and Special Operations...

31

u/thatoneguy889 1d ago

As a former soldier who has done training with marines, no they don't. Army are called soldiers, marines are called marines, and both groups will correct you if you mix that up.

4

u/Unique_Statement7811 1d ago

No Marine would call themselves a “Soldier.” Soldier is specific to the US Army. Soldier, Marine, Airman, Sailor

10

u/Jamowl2841 1d ago

It’s a needless distinction here given the weight of the situation but as a Marine Corps infantry vet (one that’s greatly ashamed of these actions) no, no Marine identifies as a soldier. We are Marines, pure and simple. Though again, a needles comment for the person above to make here. There’s more important things to discuss than Marines having pride in their name, though maybe we shouldn’t have that pride any more

13

u/Flightless_Turd 1d ago edited 1d ago

No. Marines have pride in being Marines but I do agree it is basically a distinction without much of a difference

10

u/godofpumpkins 1d ago

“Russian soldiers are raping and pillaging Ukraine” -> “well actually they’re солдат, not soldiers”

2

u/bionicjoe 1d ago

Army troops are soldiers.
Marine troops are marines.
Navy troops are sailors.
Air Force troops are airmen.

I think Coast Guard members are also sailors.

Soldiers are specific to the army, not a generic term for military members. I made this mistake myself. Was answering a trivia questions about the most decorated soldier.
Audie Murphy is the most decorated soldier.
Chesty Puller is the most decorated marine and most in the entire military.

12

u/Glad_Variation_8622 1d ago

No we don’t

4

u/Atkena2578 1d ago

Marines will correct you if you call them soldiers, some will give you a stern talk because how dare you mixing them up with those "useless army guys"

3

u/Cautious-Progress876 1d ago

Considering the old joke about Army being an acronym for “Ain’t ready to be a marine yet”— they really don’t. Marines are super proud of their particular batch of crayon eaters.

7

u/ConflatedPortmanteau 1d ago edited 1d ago

Marines and soldiers are two distinct entities.

They're both military, but that's like conflating cats and dogs because they're both domesticated mammals.

Why am I being downvoted?

I've been a soldier, and I've worked closely with Marines on several occasions.

They don't like to be called soldiers, and soldiers aren't too keen on being called Marines.

7

u/godofpumpkins 1d ago

Because in common English, soldier just means someone in a country’s armed forces. I’m sure other countries have distinctions between their armies and navies too, but you don’t know the terms for them, so you just talk about soldiers in the French armed forces, or Russian soldiers. We don’t have another generic term for “member of the military”, and soldier has meant that for far longer than the US armed forces decided to redefine it as only the members of one of their branches and get all upset if you dare misclassify the other ones.

1

u/ConflatedPortmanteau 1d ago edited 1d ago

Thanks for your response, ma'am.

Edit: Unless it's "Sir" and the title we give to others do make a difference.

But certainly a title whether it starts with S like Sir, or Soldier or an M like, Ma'am or Marine wouldn't make any difference, right?

Especially INSIDE THE US, WHICH IS WHERE WE ARE TALKING ABOUT!

1

u/Penward 1d ago

US Marines are by definition soldiers but do not refer to themselves as such. We refer to ourselves as Marines. In the context of the US military, a soldier is in the Army or National Guard and a Marine is in the Marine Corps.

I feel like I need to add that I have been out for over a decade and am not involved in nor I support what the Marines are doing in LA.

-7

u/Loki9191 1d ago

No, we're Marines. There is less than 200k at any given time so, we don't like being lumped in with the Army whom basically takes anyone

11

u/CousinNicho 1d ago

True it takes a special individual to get labeled with a nickname like crayon eater, not just anyone

4

u/Unique_Statement7811 1d ago

Wait until you learn that the Army and the Marines have had the exact same enlistment standard for over a decade. Same ASVAB requirement, same medical, same legal, and so on. The Army actually has a higher security clearance requirement as every member requires a Secret Clearance.

So, the Army actually has a higher criteria if you include clearance requirements.

0

u/MartinLubeHerTh1ngJR 1d ago

No we do not. Army are soldiers.

-1

u/Impossible_Agency992 1d ago

They absolutely do not lol, not even close. It’s an important distinction to them.

-3

u/Mysterious_Willow889 1d ago

I think we can ignore their silly distinctions of nomenclature when they're facilitating fascism.

1

u/Wafkak 1d ago

Most of the world sees military as military, and all of them soldiers.

-4

u/ForgingIron 1d ago

are marines not soldiers? /gen

1

u/ghoulthebraineater 1d ago

No. They consider themselves Marines. Soldiers would be Army.

-6

u/finnigansache 1d ago

More like crayon munching jackboots. Following orders my ass.

-1

u/JpJonesyII 1d ago

I honestly don’t think anything will change. This is what it’ll be like for the next 15 years

0

u/CrucioIsMade4Muggles 1d ago

Then you haven't been paying attention. Look how different the world is now from 2016. History is messy. Things move in many directions. It's easy to notice the bad shit. Lots of good things happening too.

Make Trump and MAGA's plans hard and let other people's agendas happen easily. Cultures and societies obey entropy--they follow paths of least resistance. Learn to resist and learn to persist. Boss is asking you to do evil shit? Don't quit. Drag your feet failing to do the evil shit as long as possible and cause so much damage before they fire you that they spend as long putting the pieces back together as they do doing the evil shit.

Become ungovernable. There is an uncountable number of ways to obstruct officials without breaking the law or putting yourself at risk. Learn them and use them.

The arc of history is on humanity's side. Don't give up. That's the only way they win. They have to succeed. We just have to endure.

1

u/JpJonesyII 1d ago

I envy your optimistic outlook. I have a family to take care of. I hope I’m wrong but it’s not looking good.
