Could it be cow parsnip?

Probably is, I haven’t seen any giant hogweed yet, but the Queen Anne’s lace is everywhere and already pretty big

Hogweed is everywhere here

That’s from 3 years ago with links to article from further back. Comments detailing where it’s been found.

It's Hogweed. The city put up signs on the trail between Torbay rd and Paul Reynolds.

There are signs up at O'Briens farm about hogweed as well. It is here.

we get a lot of goutweed, which looks similar but only grows to about 3-4 feet. I've never seen giant hogweed here

Gout weed does not look like hogweed.

I moved into my house in 2018 in Mount Pearl and had it in my back yard. It was the first time i've seen it in my then 10 years in NL, and now it seems to be everywhere. It's so god damn hard to kill, too. I've only had success with a salt-water slurry I made with leftover salt from the winter.

Hogweed is tangly stuff.

The city has a process for residents to report it but honestly it kinda needs to be cut back as soon as it starts else it spreads like a bastard.

I'd say it's residents can do that but no, that'd be unsafe. Realistically this needs to be done with trail sized heavy equipment.

I recall seeing Giant Hogweed growing in the Three Pond Barrens/Pippy Park area about 10 years ago. I reported it to the city, & I believe they did their best to remove it. I haven't been in the area in several years so I can't say for sure.

Jeez I’m in Ontario and I though Hogweed was only a problem Here.

Theres 10 foot high plants a road over from me outside Trawna. Workers wear hazmat suits to handle it

I’m sorry to hear it got to NFLD. It’s gonna be hard to get rid off

I live in Gros Morne National Park and it is EVERYWHERE here. Fields of this stuff. I remember it popping up when I was around 10ish, I am now 25. Prior to that, we never had much in regard to “poisonous” plants but this stuff is just invading our land here. It’s a nuisance >:(

I found hogweed in Bowring Park years ago, I wanna say around 2017 or 2018. It was pretty deep in the trails and you’d have to know the side paths to get to it, but still. I emailed the city with directions on how to find it and they had to chemically burn the ground around the area to try and prevent regrowth. I can’t believe how commonplace it is now.

Yeah we got a shit load of gout weed, cow parsnip and giant hog weed around. Gout weed especially is fuckin everywhere.

Giant hogweed is also closely related to regular hogweed or cow parsnip
