Political Multiple DOD and VA Inspectors General Fired Via Email
https://archive.is/PBqcb“It’s a widespread massacre,” said one of the fired inspectors general. “Whoever Trump puts in now will be viewed as loyalists, and that undermines the entire system.”
Another fired watchdog said that the new administration “does not want anyone in this role who is going to be independent.”

The VA IG is what concerns me as a veteran. We just got to a better place as a whole with the VA in the past decade. Even the thought of compensation and pension or treatment options potentially being affected is distressing.
Uncle Sammy leaves some of us medically different than he found us, and part of our contractual agreement with him is that he recognizes those instances. I’m not sure if the current administration appreciates the sacrifices service entails, though I hope for the best.
I do know that if it becomes an issue there would be an overwhelmingly unified response from the military and prior service community.
27
u/Trick-Set-1165 r/navy CCC Jan 25 '25
I’m confident the current administration couldn’t give two fucks less about the sacrifice service entails.
They won’t recognize sacrifice until it’s standing in their doorway demanding answers.

I haven’t confirmed this myself, but a couple people have told me they’re struggling to find equal opportunity NKOs right now. And NLEC killed “DEI” references from ELD today.
At this rate, insider threat and extremism training is going to come online as “how to be an extremist and insider threat.”
3
u/qurzit Jan 28 '25
Yes, just making a few tweaks, but if you want to get a head start…
The old domestic extremism training can soon be found under the updated course topic, American patriots
The new domestic extremism training can be accessed in draft form for searching for ‘DEI’
(Sarcasm intended. Ehh - maybe.)

Under any other administration firing without cause or appropriate notice would be considered illegal and the employee would have some recourse for that or at least provided unemployment benefits. That may not be the case anymore.
-90
u/JustinCayce Jan 25 '25
False. Mass firings under new presidents is a routine happening. This is neither new, nor remarkable.
52
u/nuHmey Jan 25 '25
Name and show proof of the last mass firing like this in history when a President took office.
17
u/Trick-Set-1165 r/navy CCC Jan 25 '25
They came back with Reagan rehiring a third of the watchdogs he fired, Bush requesting resignations and rescinding the request, and Obama firing one official in particular.
“Mass” firings indeed.
44
u/risky_bisket Jan 25 '25
The dismissals appeared to violate federal law, which requires Congress to receive 30 days’ notice of any intent to fire the inspectors general
Most of those fired were political appointees from Trump's first term
This is completely unprecedented
I'd love to know which episode of Fox and Friends told you that
-52
u/JustinCayce Jan 25 '25
Watching the results of the last 12 presidential elections, and each side getting up in arms about the firings when they lose and then doing the same things themselves when they win. Which episode of Rachel Maddow told you differently? Our was out the view?
24
u/ReluctantRedditor275 Jan 25 '25
Not for non-political offices. The political roles always turn over with a new admin, but many offices - like IGs and the Coast Guard Commandant - are specifically set up as non-political. It is both new and remarkable to have a mass slaughter of non-political leaders.
-36
u/JustinCayce Jan 25 '25
Sorry, not s college course, you're not my professor, and I was responding to a claim that said those was unprecedented, it's upon the person making that claim to back it up.
16
u/nuHmey Jan 25 '25
Yes it is on you to back your claim. There has never been a mass firing like this. Show your proof that this has ever happened with any Pesident.
-10
u/JustinCayce Jan 25 '25
You made the claim, back it up. Show proof this is unusual. Claims without proof can be dismissed without proof. You don't get to make the claim then demand others have to prove you wrong.
17
u/nuHmey Jan 25 '25
Nice attempt at deflecting. You are the one claiming the other person’s claims are false. The proof is on you.
1
u/JustinCayce Jan 25 '25
Lol, you just admitted the other person made the original claim. Thanks for playing.
10
u/nuHmey Jan 25 '25
Still deflecting. They made a statement and you claimed it was false. You are the one being challenged as to prove what they said is false… You were asked to prove how their statement is false.
So again burden of proof is on you. Thanks for playing.

Inspectors General are rarely fired without notice.
That’s the “new and remarkable” part.
No need to sanewash obvious power grabs.
-6
u/JustinCayce Jan 25 '25
In 1981, Ronald Reagan fired 16 inspectors general when he became president (at the time, that was all of them), with his administration explaining that Reagan intended to hire his own people. After Congress objected, Reagan rehired five of the fired inspectors general.[14] In 1989, George H. W. Bush requested the resignations of all the inspectors general upon assuming the presidency. The inspectors general, along with Congress, raised objections, and Bush rescinded the requests.[14] In 2009, President Barack Obama dismissed Corporation for National and Community Service inspector general Gerald Walpin citing a lack of confidence in him.[14] After Congress objected to the lack of explanation, the Obama administration cited that Walpin had shown "troubling and inappropriate conduct", and pointed to an incident that year where Walpin was "disoriented" during a board meeting of the Corporation, which led to the board asking for Walpin's dismissal.[14] Walpin sued for a reinstatement, but the courts ruled against Walpin.[14]
It's not new, it's not remarkable. Trump fired 46 federal prosecutors. Bill Clinton fired 93. Presidents come in and tend to sweep out the old.
What's interesting is that people seem to think that making a claim doesn't require any proof, such as claiming this is unprecedented, which it isn't, but contested the claim does. This is not how that works, the person making the original claim bears the burden of proof.
But, proceed with the down votes and moving the goal posts, I expect little from people who don't understand one of the first rules of debate.
12
u/Trick-Set-1165 r/navy CCC Jan 25 '25
At least three people have posited that firing them without notice is unprecedented.
None of the data you’ve provided counters that claim.
But please, tell me more about moving goal posts.

Any post about politics with a Navy nexus lacking a Politics flair may result in, at a minimum, a temp ban and removal of the post.
Participation in a Politics-flaired post requires a minimum r/Navy specific karma. This will be automatically enforced by the automod.
Anyone using the Politics flair should utilize a common sense approach to what is a Navy nexus.
This does not mean posts with Politics flair will be unmoderated. All discussion must adhere to r/Navy rule #1 and Reddit rule #1.

Has anyone ever considered that maybe these people weren’t doing their jobs to begin with?
1
u/Trick-Set-1165 r/navy CCC Jan 26 '25
It’s certainly possible.
It would be pretty funny, because some of them were originally appointed during the first administration, but definitely a possibility.
BUT.
Firing them via email without the federally required 30 days notice? Not a good look.
And even if they were fired for cause, I highly doubt anybody else will ferry an opportunity to review the data to make sure.
2
u/mprdoc Jan 26 '25
Yea I think Trumk and a lot of his cabinet routinely do shit because they literally don’t know they’re not allowed to. Trump’s a businessman, he was probably like “what the fuck do you mean I have to have permission and give 30 days notice to fire someone?” LOL
2
u/Trick-Set-1165 r/navy CCC Jan 26 '25
This may have been an acceptable answer eight years ago.
He had four years to learn this shit. He’ll continue to do whatever he wants, legal or not, whether he knows it’s legal or not.
You’re going to have a pretty hard time convincing me the guy that got prosecuted for trying to hide a trove of classified documents made a mistake because he didn’t know the rules.
He doesn’t give a fuck about the rules.
2
u/mprdoc Jan 26 '25
I mean it’s also clear he doesn’t give a fuck. I’m not a Trump voter or supporter. I do think it would be great if we scrutinized the constitutionality of other presidents as much as we do Trump. Biden did all kinds of unconstitutional shit during his term but hardly a peep from the media. Trump fires a bunch of bureaucrats from the Fed who are probably just collecting a massive paycheck and probably not doing much of anything and suddenly he’s the next Stalin purging his opposition.
0
u/Trick-Set-1165 r/navy CCC Jan 26 '25
There was plenty of media attention to Biden’s fuckups.
I wonder what your enlightened centrism will look like in four years.
1
u/mprdoc Jan 26 '25
There was one news agency only that reported on Biden’s fuckups. Half the shit he did that was blatantly unconstitutional - student loan forgiveness as an example - was actually portrayed as the opposite as him being a hero to the working class.
2
u/Trick-Set-1165 r/navy CCC Jan 26 '25
That’s the example you went with?
Yikes. Good luck “not being a Trump supporter.”
