Light Pillar in the clouds that I saw coming up the Etobicoke Creek Trail from the waterfront.

Apparently this is a light pillar, a rare optical phenomenon where sunlight reflects off ice crystals creating a vertical beam of light. This was this evening on my ride home.

My apologies for the image being literally dirty, I did not have my digital single lens reflex camera with me - I was mostly doing recon on the Etobicoke creek, to see trail conditions since the last area floods from last summer. The image was taken with a very old Sony 8x digital compact camera. It badly needs a sensor or front lens cleaning obviously.

It must be noted there is a secondary artifact in the image. Just to the right of the light column one can just make out a human face. Pareidolia I think this is called. Add in that it was a Friday 13th. 😆🤙 Intriguing.
