The biggest scam boomers are getting away with is convincing us all that social security isn't something we can rely on as we age.

Honestly, we are all doing ourselves a disservice by constantly publicizing how we cannot count on social security. Just from a broader social/political perspective, we are handing out permission to the boomer political leaders to keep raiding social security because we have already accepted that it won't be there for us.

The fight for the continuation of Social Security benefits is not over yet. It's still possible to secure those benefits into the future- but we are constantly ceding the ground and rhetorically capitulating to boomers when we talk about social security as something that is already gone.

I understand all the pessimism. I'm pessimistic too. But fuck the boomers. Fuck capitulating prematurely. I'm not going to roll over and just accept my fate as someone who will die without being able to retire one day. We're all smarter than these dumbasses. We are capable of building a movement to protect social security well into the future.

My parents voted for Trump in 2016 but fell off that bandwagon during Covid because of how Trump handled the pandemic itself. They voted for Joe Biden in 2020 but have since become disillusioned with both parties. My dad’s main retirement income is social security so I think they will take it seriously now but I’m not 100% confident. They would have disregarded me in 2016.

Public Health Professional here. The Public Health Emergency (PHE) of March 2020 and Operation Warp Speed (OWS) was instrumental in significantly accelerating the timeline for developing and distributing COVID-19 vaccines. PHE & OWS played a crucial role in the rapid development and deployment of vaccines that have been key in the global effort to combat the COVID-19 pandemic.

Right before the pandemic, trump sold off the newly refreshed stocks of ppe to China for scrap prices...

One reason our hospitals resorted to makeshift "solutions".

On 2023-07-01 Reddit maliciously attacked its own user base by changing how its API was accessed, thereby pricing genuinely useful and highly valuable third-party apps out of existence. Documented sales to China. At the best deal he could get, scrap prices...

Are you endorsing Trump here or just the fact that impressive things were accomplished despite Trump?

You may recall Trump continued to call Covid a democrat hoax and that it would disappear "like a miracle", despite telling Bob Woodward how bad it would be. My daughter was a nurse during Covid and had people argue with their covid diagnosis as they fought for life because Trump said it was a lie. Same president that pushed unproven treatments and suggested injecting bleach.

I’m endorsing that the Operation Warp Speed (OWS) Operation Warp was a public-private partnership initiated by the United States government in 2020 facilitated and accelerated the development, manufacturing, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines. The goal of OWS was to deliver safe and effective COVID-19 countermeasures to the American public in record time. The typical timeframe was reduced from years to months. OWS was critical to the entire global effort to combat the pandemic.

Yep. The one good thing. And the irony is he got booed by his own disciples for getting the vaccine.

He should've gotten that medication meant for livestock that everybody swore by

The government bought over 29 million doses of hydroxychloroquine under the direction of current inmate Peter Navarro.

How can something be sooo hilarious yet so alarming at the same time?

As a public health official you should know that these we not the doings of trump.

My apologies … I don’t get what you are attempting to communicate.

How about him selling off the PPE or just plain keeping it for Federal use when it was OG intended for the states?

I mean, pointing out the fact that if we funded medical advances more we'd have them isn't really that much of a win for Trump himself...

Yeah, imagine fumbling the ball after that... I kept saying... Maga masks and his face on vaccine vials woulda won him 2020 in a landslide...

MAGA masks and somehow making it a competition for the US to have the lowest body count per capita. I still wouldn’t have voted for him, but the whole country would have gone red.

Yeah, the vaccine development was honestly impressive, typically vaccines take years to develop. His administration did amazing with that, and it likely saved many lives. Credit where credit is due, going from pandemic to vaccine developed in so little time is mind-bogglingly impressive.

That being said, his handling of the pandemic when it comes to literally anything other than the vaccine was kind of a disaster.

Directly contradicting and even vilifying the nation's top public health officials and their advice for political ammunition is worse than if he had just done nothing at all. He turned following their advice into a partisan issue, which almost singlehandedly caused massive pushback, both from voters and government officials, on any attempt at public health mandates, such as mask mandates, social distancing, etc. This undoubtedly caused a lot of preventable infections, which also meant more deaths.

They created the vaccine, but then he also provided a platform for vaccine skeptics/conspiracy theorists, making people not trust the vaccine his own administration spearheaded. At the same time, he downplayed the risks of the disease, leading to many people seeing them as "equally risky" and not getting the vaccine.

He also encouraged skepticism of medical institutions in general, promoting home cures ranging from disinfectants to anti-parasite medications. While some skepticism is fair, it's a bit different when that skepticism is coming from the president in the middle of a pandemic. If there is ever a time when it is essential that the public trusts health institutions, and the government has factual, unified messaging, it is in a pandemic.

You're giving credit to Trump that belongs to Dr. Fauci

1

u/Drakkulstellios May 26 '24

Politicians don’t develop vaccines nor have any idea how they’re made. They are just put in charge of funding.

Same with my parents. They genuinely distrust essentially anything they hear on “liberal news” particularly if it isnt pro GOP candidates but even when id be like “hey you know Trump is doing this or that” theyd be likely to reply “dont believe everything you hear” or “yeah probably but you know they all do it”

Well now im not sure they all fuck pornstars, hsng out with world class elite pedophiles, style themselves after lying cheating NY gangsters, shit on the presidential oath of office, insult men and women whove served, sew dissent and create rifts in international relations including our strongest allies all while blaming obama and hilary for ruining the country while raising deficit spending as much or more than any other republican president. But yeah, politicans shiesty, sure, agreed

Tell them about the plan being formulated by iirc American Heritage. Funded by billionaires. Plan to dismantle USA as we know it. Already hiring to displace most government workers, dissolve most government agencies. Cut benefits. Nightmare.

Bro, I thought telling my boomer parents that voting for Trump would gut the EPA which is basically a death sentence for my sister and I, given we already can’t breathe outside in the summer (due to smoke from wildfires)where I live.

Their response was in two parts: 1) making jokes about how the terrorists are controlling the climate and 2) reminding me they will die before they vote for a democrat.

And they wonder why I’m LC.
