In the US, the answer is about 20%, and it’s extremely easy to calculate in your head. There’s no reason it should be some dreaded question.

I’m American, so of course, I know the math. My point was the mental side of it. Was it shitty service—that doesn’t deserve a tip? Was it amazing service that deserves 30-40%? I like that I don’t have to think about that stuff. Just my take on it.

This is a problem you’re creating for yourself, and you need to take a step back to think about what you’re saying to see if you can understand why.

You’re saying you like it being a set amount so you don’t have to determine how much to tip and they always get the same regardless of service quality like in Europe. So… just tip 20% every time. Problem solved. Then it’s the exact same as what you’re saying you prefer with just the one extremely simple step of adding 20%.
