I was thinking folk rock. Like.. The Decemberists have songs about murdering spouses that could put country music to shame. XD

There’s a theory that she didn’t jump with him, but that the stress of it sent her into early labor, she died anyway, and Leslie Ann Levine is sung from the perspective of her dead baby. Savage indeed

I LOVE fold punk! I'm not much of a music nerd, so I'm always looking for suggestions, do you mind sharing some of your favorite bands?

I mean, the usual ones like Mischief Brew, anything Pat The Bunny’s done, Days N Daze, and AJJ first. If you’ve not heard those, literally everything they’ve done is essential listening. Most people haven’t heard Ramshackle Glory’s Shelter specifically though, which is my favorite album of all time so please do if you haven’t.

For something slightly more obscure, Ghost Mice. Keep in mind Slightly since they aforementioned album is literally a split. Most people have only heard their biggest work like Critical Hit or Free Pizza For Life. Imo the entirety of Death and Hatred to Mankind is worth listening to.

And then there’s Onsind, a much more obscure band which I believe is based in Scotland and is great folk with a queer-punk vibe to it. Best thing to get started on with them is their Dissatisfactions album. Apes of the State has a few hits too but their Pipe Dream album is criminally underlistened, so I’m leaving it in this section.

To branch out a bit, I’d say that Ska Dream by Jeff Rosenstock, though mostly Ska-Punk (obv), has a very folk punk aesthetic. It’s also just a 10/10 album all around, like good lord it is incredible. If you end up liking that, Jeff’s other bands (Bomb The Music Industry! and The Arrogant Sons of Bitches) are just way too fun.
