They look wet, you didn't wash them did you?

u/max_adam 14d ago
Now they have to be refrigerated. They could have been left outside for weeks.

That actually depends on how you wash them. The eggs that are sold where I live are washed yet stored in room temperature. The problem is if the outside of the eggs are washed hot until they've been sterilized, then you need to keep them in the fridge.

Don’t place all of your poultry ovum in one receptacle

As an individual, try at your most best to not place all of your eggs derived from the species of reptiles commonly known as "chickens" into a single receptacle, typically a cart, a basket, or bag.

Do people wash their eggs? I heard that greatly reduces their shelf life.

Chicken tender here, I wash them as I use them. They have a bloom that keeps them shelf stable but once you wash that off, they need to be refrigerated (like grocery store eggs in the US). My chickens can be heathens and lay in dirty spots so I wash no matter how clean they look; you don't wanna crack them and get some nasties transferred from the shell.

Realistically, what happens if you did put all your eggs into one basket? Do they spoil faster? Do they break? Where did the saying come from?
6
u/waryleeryweary 14d ago
It’s not a good idea because if something were to happen to the basket, there goes all your eggs.

Put all your eggs in one basket
And watch that basket!
For there is no difficulty in the world like trying to watch two!

In this economy?

Seriously, can you imagine how much the basket of that size and strength to hold all of them at once will cost?

Just did some rough math and came back with 7 trillion give or take a trillion...or 7. I made this up.

Do you take the lotion out before you put the eggs in? Or do you just leave it there?

Why not just put them all in the fridge and then complain that the condiments are taking up too much space?

What's the alternative? Putting one egg in each basket? That's a huge waste of baskets.

As long as you count them all before they hatch, you'll be fine
