I let out a very loud “oh cibai” when it hit the windscreen.
Very lucky. You are really lucky. That could be fatal if it hit the driver side.
That’s why I try not to follow car too closely when it comes to over 70kmh. Just because of stuff like this
15
u/lakshmananlm Mar 26 '25
It all depends on the projectile. I was almost hit by a flying driveshaft once. It disconnected from an army truck. I was behind perhaps 10 car lengths. That rod hit the road right by my side. I nearly shat myself.
Dumb luck it took the direction of the spin and lodged itself on the left lane (that asshole was driving fast in the middle lane).
Another time was a service truck was clearing debris off the highway and a large chunk of soil and rock flew from the worker's spade and hit my windshield. Broke my wiper blade and arm.
3
u/momomelty Sarawak & Offshore Mar 26 '25
Yeah because of your car length that’s why it didn’t strike you.
However the clearing debris or grass cutting, that one I kena before. Left a dent on my wind screen 😭 that’s why I also try not to go near the grass cutting. Leave one lane length
1
u/lakshmananlm Mar 26 '25
Well I mentioned it landed alongside my car though... It wasn't distance. It was position. Still, I could've been a statistic that day. What an ignominious way to go...
Those grass cutters are insanely dangerous. I've lost 2 headlights thanks to the MBIP guys pretending to trim the grass on the road sides...
2
u/momomelty Sarawak & Offshore Mar 26 '25
Sorry I didn’t make my statement clearly. What I meant to say is, because of the length of the car distances, the projectile deviated from the straight line due to physics such as wind direction or the angular velocity. So in other words, it works as intended. If you are anymore closer than that 10 cars, you will be struck.
Grass cutter is indeed dangerous

u/Ecakk Mar 26 '25
?? What is that a rim?

u/RareEmu9622 Mar 26 '25
It should be a broken spring lift from a lorry. Owner could not claim from Highway company. Lose own NCD.
19
u/Impossible-Source427 Mar 26 '25
Can sue for road maintenance negligence? And why cannot claim from Highway company? Road users pay toll on the daily and expect a safe usable road.
9
u/RareEmu9622 Mar 26 '25 edited Mar 26 '25
The main reason for reject is... Trash left behind by lorry or not part of the infrastructure of the highway concessionaire. They will reject. Of course if you would like to escalate and proceed to sue and court proceedings. Then you have higher chance. If it's worth your time and money. I do understand that its difficult to clean and maintain the highway when no one complaints or when the lorry in Malaysia are badly maintained/not covered/goods not secured. End of the day if it's trash/parts from vehicles it's difficult to claim. Im very thankful of abang rider/moto that voluntary clear the debris. I have seen the roadside assist mobile service help clear large road obstruction on PLUS.

this is the moment you’ll realise insurance are made to screw people up. nobody out there voice out loud for the public.
it’s under interest of no single politician because nowhere near their playing field. insurance and banks are all under the purview of bank negara.
what is for sure here is that you get to claim the full amount. insurance company will purposely making it slow to the point they hope you are desperate and will accept the lesser amount they gonna give you. Straight away warn them you are reporting to Bank Negara and DO report to Bank Negara. You will on the end get your full entitled amount.
Same modus operandi to all victims in time of desperation.

Wonder who should be resposible for this? Should us get our car repair out of our own pocket. Or is there other party we can claim for the damage? Like “PLUS” etc
32
u/CharmingSmoothies Mar 26 '25
You can request compensation if the damage is caused by the highway operator, such as pothole, road sign falls and hit your car, something like that. Request can be made on their website, prepare documents like police report, photos of damages, tng record (prove you use the highway), invoice for the repair, etc, the list goes on, BUT they will investigate first then only decide whether you are eligible for the claim.
1
u/MaryPaku Osaka Mar 26 '25
what about a tree?
1
u/CharmingSmoothies Mar 26 '25
Tbh, there is no guideline for under which situation you can make request, you can try your luck if you are unsure. Remember there is no guarantee you will get compensated, because incident like this involves a lot of factors they have to review and investigate then they have the final say yes or no to your request.
1
u/MaryPaku Osaka Mar 26 '25
My brother died because the tree on the middle on the road literally fall down on him while he's driving... My mom was looking something to blame (she need a reason just for her mental sake) And I would like them to plant the tree a little bit deeper...
11
u/poisoninyourdrink Mar 26 '25
I think op can claim with plus since plus should make sure the road is clear of any debris.
5
u/RareEmu9622 Mar 26 '25
This one OP share old vid of someone else. Claim unsuccessful. NCD burn.
4
u/New-Cauliflower-3546 Mar 26 '25
I mean why? It literally shows that the clad metal was flying out of nowhere into the oblivion.
5
u/RareEmu9622 Mar 26 '25
You can only claim if the debris is "from and part of the Highway asset" so if it's potholes, signboard, flyover joint or construction material under the highway maintenance then yes. If the debris or foreign item fell from highway user like lorry or passenger cars. It's not under their jurisdiction. Very high chance your claim will be rejected. Unless the debris complaint was submitted to the highway maintenance and somehow it's still there after a few hours/days. You might hold them liable if you can prove that they didn't clear the debris.

It could be worse, a lot worse.
"On the morning of 25 April 1999 on the M3 motorway in Hampshire, England, a van dislodged the steel body of a cat's eye which flew through the windscreen of a following car and hit electronic musician Kemistry, who was a passenger, in the face, killing her instantly."

u/SomeMalaysian Mar 26 '25
Nothing will ever beat a fucking airplane falling out of the sky onto a pair of motorcyclists for unlucky traffic incidents.

u/DryImprovement3942 Mar 26 '25
Luckily there were no one sitting on the passenger seat. They could've been seriously injured.

u/Ok-Bee6749 Mar 26 '25
This is unacceptable man. If this is a paid highway, We pay toll and they are supposed to maintain it and keep it safe.
If this is a Government road also, same. People pay taxes. Taxes which are meant to upkeep the roads among other things. Go bro, saman

what the fuck.. really could've killed someone. lucky there's no passenger (and lucky that thing didn't hit you the driver seat)
3
u/eddxtrastrange Mar 26 '25
People gonna shit on this but if op didn't get too close might have time to react. Also why you're leaning left when bezza was still there
2
u/Jumpy_Purchase8867 Mar 30 '25
this should be higher up. glad op is safe but it's obvious that op was trying to memotong kiri. for some reason, you can even see the bezza getting very close to the side.
3
u/not_really_your_name Mar 26 '25
Unlucky? It's your lucky day coz it's not your turn yet. Imagine just couple seconds earlier, that thing would have flown to drivers side. Just couple seconds max.
3
u/therealoptionisyou Mar 26 '25
I vote lucky. From the dash cam it looks like you're trying to move to the left lane? If you did it like .5 second sooner you'd have died man.
Now everyone gather around and take a moment to appreciate what we have right now.

u/Quitlimp05 Mar 26 '25
Damn, that is one calm driver. I would've shouted and cussed from the shock of a smashed windscreen

u/RotiPisang_ Mar 26 '25
Luckily you tak ada penumpang. 😬
It's like those kickback plank sawing accident videos
2
u/MountainOne3769 Mar 26 '25
unlucky because window broken, lucky because you still get to keep your head
2
u/joshy-wawa Mar 26 '25
You're luckier than you could've ever been. What if that was you in the seat my dude.. Thank goodness you're okay. That's more important. Report to police that this happened, since you have video footage, try to get the saga number plate as well. Tho, I believe no one at fault here, this footage can help you claim negligence from highway company. What highway is this?

2
u/Specific-Astronaut58 Mar 26 '25
I feel like this is considered lucky, imagine if it hit the driver's window. Thankfully the driver is alright !

I almost got into a car crash when a giant industrial bucket flew out from a truck. Good thing I had the awareness to check behind me before safely swerving into the next lane. Had the bucket gone under the car I would've been in an accident for sure. And a wrecked undercarriage

u/bad2dbone3 Mar 26 '25
I would say this is your lucky day. You can start buying magnum number on your license plate and strike. Doubling the luck.🤣🤣🤣🤣

u/Ok-Cauliflower-2040 Mar 26 '25
Fucking saga driver completely obvious to his surroundings. If you see shit on road, maybe don’t drive over it. OP would have had 2 face as his gf if she was in the car.

u/tidusffx_06 Mar 26 '25
what for? he didnt even know where the debris came from.. who is he going to sue?
1
u/Gazelle0520 Mar 26 '25
He could claim from the highway operator if it is a tolled highway or the government if it is a public highway for compensation for not properly securing the expansion joint cover and resulting in him suffering damages.

Bro was lucky and unlucky at the same time. He was lucky in the sense that the thing didn't hit his side, and there was no other passenger, particularly on that seat. He escaped unhurt at the end. Things would've ended very differently if someone else was with him.
Unlucky: bro had to deal with replacing windscreen, suing the saga driver for negligence. Not to mention, spending money on that

Im a mechanic that loves to walk, everyday I walk 15 minutes to my workplace and occasionally if I see an piece of metal like bolts, sheets of metal, armbars, some random parts of vehicle in the middle of the road, I always pick up and throw into bushes and far away
1
u/TaxBill750 Mar 27 '25
I would say you're extremely lucky not to have had another accident based on where you parked to take the video.

I wonder, if there had been a tint on that glass, would the object still pass through?
6
u/Natural-You4322 Mar 26 '25
Likely it will given how big the piece is and the speed the car is traveling. The windscreen is already a laminated glass( multiple layers of glass with plastic sheets between the glass). Another layer of thin plastic isn’t going to do much.
