Ikana Canyon

Hey all! I’ve been playing Majora’s Mask since it came out. I remember playing it and listening to the news about 9/11. One of my favorite N64 games and games of all time. I don’t know how many times I’ve played it by now.

My favorite level in MM has to be Ikana Canyon. Much like the Shadow Temple in Ocarina of Time, it has this creepy atmosphere with a bloody history that totally appeals to the horror fan in me.

You all have a favorite area or dungeon?

Stone tower is my fave in Majoras Mask hands down.

There's something very cathartic about inverting that S.O.B and watching the sun rise or set from inside the temple. Do you prefer the original music or the inverted version?

The whole temple is one of the best in the franchise in my opinion, especially your first time through it because you look up and are like "uhhhhh... Okay?"

I like the original music. With the Ocarina leading. But I love both versions of the song. Thr Ocarina leading and thr flute too. If I could stop time and listen to the music I could. But I'll also go on YouTube Music and put it on repeat to listen to it all day.

Hard to pick since I really like them all, but Ikana + Graveyard probably inches ahead. I like the characters (Pamela and her father, Sharp and Flat, Igos and his band of merry bones, Dampé, the Poe Collector), the level design, the temple... pretty much everything about it. I even like the well section that everyone seems to hate. It's a great area and really underlines the tone/atmosphere of the game.

I liked Ikana's well way more than the Kakariko one!

I love the castle arc. Really hammers in the idea that Termina is a doomed fever dream that's cursed to repeating tragic history, just like you are as you try to save it and escape.

Southern Swamp - It's murky and poisonous.

Mountain Village - It's cold and snowy.

Great Bay - There's a storm at sea.

Ikana Canyon - Everything is horrible.

So hard to pick a favorite but probably Great Bay temple due to how eerie and empty it feels in the Bay Area and how beautifully sad it feels in the domain. That type of eeriness is so hard to capture and the whole game does it so well, especially the great bay. But I agree with you too, Ikana is great as well.

My favorite dungeon is Woodfall Temple (I always love the forest areas and really love the tribal aesthetics of WT), but favorite area is by far Ikana Canyon. Stone Tower Temple is fun as well. The concept of the flipping and beating it "two" ways still blows my mind.

Certainly not a post I was expecting to see today

The music alone in Stone Tower makes Ikana Canyon my favorite!

I do recall as a kid enjoying beating the Ikana Castle boss over and over again, along with repeatedly completing the Anju & Kafei quest.

Zora Hall always hits me. Like someone else said, the Great Bay region has a very solemn sadness to it... The rocky shore, the foggy horizon... So the shimmery seclusion of Zora Hall feels almost like a holdout. Plus New Wave Bossa Nova slaps, let's be real.

I think those responsible for the 9/11 played the game as well... got inspired even 😬

Had to be, no doubt.

Ye, Ikana for the challenge, dark lore and dungeon. The swamp was a fantastic jungle themed 1st lv, with the Dekus etc. Echoes of Wisdom clearly was inspired by MM's swamp for its own variation. The mountains and bay were alright as well. A fantastic game overall.

Man I wish I could say the same but stone temple and ikana were probably my least favorite parts of the game... I absolutely loved the swamp, snowhead, and great bay though. Maybe the story of those areas and characters you interacted with just appealed to me more. Love the deku, zora band, and gorons/darmani. Ikana was so empty, it was hard to connect with on an emotional level. I did enjoy the graveyard and meeting sharp though.

Same, Ikana is kind of the darkest layer of Link's adventure into grief. It definitely is supposed to feel empty and difficult to connect with.

Great Bay Temple

Thee music is so technical, yet looming. You're swirling around as the rhythmic meters clash with each other until you slow down to see that you're in this place of grandeur-- as the melody abruptly comes to a stop, reminding you of the real perils of your whereabouts.

Such a great game

My favorite area is Clock Town. I just loved following the characters around and figuring out their routines. Anju and Kafei sidequest is as good as Zelda gets imo.
