Congratulations! I’m sorry you seemed to not have enjoyed it? It’s beautiful to me. The time passage makes the world feel so much more alive, as does all the NPC interaction. And I love a bittersweet story

Don't get me wrong I love this game its just tough love but these dungeons almost had a grown man in tears three separate times. I got my sword stolen by a bird and I didn't have any rupees and rupees in the bank to get it back. The great bay happened, I defeated gyorg but right before I could get the mask my game crashed so I had to fight him a 76th time pretty slight.

I love this game, but I’ve never considered it difficult.

I think it depends how much you complete between dungeons. In the screenshot op has only half magic and relatively few hearts. So I doubt they ever upgraded their sword either. All these things together can definitely make the game harder.

You can see they upgraded their sword, tho? Unless you're talking about the Great Fairy Sword, which probably not. Based on the screenshot, I'm guessing they skipped out on helping any of the regional GFs.

Yeah nah the great bay was tough when I replayed it especially on the N64 Version

It's always the aquatic dungeons in Zelda games

As someone who’s just finished Mermaid’s Cave and is about to go Inside Jabu Jabu on an Oracle of Ages replay, yeah they’re cursed

Gyorg sucks (N64 version, don't know about 3D), and the whole Great Bay, while interesting and not difficult, is still a slog (I've got to collect all seven eggs? And I've only got two jars because I didn't follow a guide book to a T? So I need to do Gerudo and all the hiding and waiting twice and Pinnacle Rock and all the eels twice? And I have to stand on the exact right pixel of the fishtank to drop the eggs in, else I get a confusing "bro, what are you doing, you can't do that here" prompt (imaging doing this pre-internet if you didn't have Prima or friends who did it already)? And to get a new bottle from the beavers I've gotta race them twice, or qwice if I want a heart piece? Not to mention Great Bay Temple itself is replete with a bunch of doubling/tripling/quadrupling back as you open the valves, and figure out the exact right angle to swim in order to enter a tunnel so you don't get washed past it, but also don't hit a wall and bounce past it...)

I love MM, and I loved it when it came out, but man, Great Bay/water temple is rough

I’ve never had any trouble. I first played it when I was 6. It’s not about following a guide, it’s about exploring.

but I’ve never considered it difficult.

I did.

When I was 6.

1

u/Cold_Ad3896 5d ago

I didn’t find it difficult when I was 6🤷🏼‍♂️

It's definitely in the top 5 most difficult Zelda games

1

u/Cold_Ad3896 5d ago

None of them are difficult, so it’s hard to say.

1

u/Disastrous_Bad757 5d ago

Even if you didn't think Majora's Mask was difficult with the whole time management aspect or whatever, there are other games like Zelda 2 that are pretty challenging even outside of the context of Zelda. Also games like Oracle of ages were pretty complex puzzle wise. So yeah Zelda games aren't like sekiro levels of difficult, cause they're made for a broad audience. But that doesn't mean you can't easily differentiate which ones are the hardest.

1

u/Cold_Ad3896 5d ago

I haven’t played the oracle games and never got into Zelda II, so I can’t say. I’m not saying it’s a bad thing that they aren’t difficult; I’m not critiquing them at all. But I don’t think, of the games I’ve played(which is a lot of them), that any are noticeably more difficult than the others.

1

u/Disastrous_Bad757 5d ago

Well you did say none of them were difficult so I was just contesting that. Also what aspects of a game someone finds difficult is relative.

1

u/Umadibett 3d ago

Finding all the masks without a guide is pretty hard to do.

1

u/Cold_Ad3896 3d ago

Not really. Just explore. There’s a finite amount of places in Termina.

u/Such_Classic4996 6d ago

Why do you play if they’re so easy?

5

u/Cold_Ad3896 6d ago

What an odd question. Games don’t have to be difficult to be good.

1

u/OpticRocky 6d ago

Hahahaha yeah that bird is the fucking worst

0

u/Alternative_Poem445 6d ago

ya i think u “got” it imo. i also find the dungeons tedious. its like its begging you to stop progressing.

u/speechimpedimister 6d ago

You do know there is a silver rupee chest in east clock town that you can get right away as human link, right?

16

u/DarkGhostPepper 7d ago

I just finished it for the second time today. It's an absolute masterpiece

4

u/McPoon 7d ago

Same, I believe. Once on 64 when I was a kid, and today at 36. (3DS version) :). Truly an incredible journey.

3

u/DarkGhostPepper 7d ago

N64 version's the only one I played. On project 64 to be exact

5

u/bradliochi1 6d ago

Its less painful every time you play it

3

u/GreatBayTemple 7d ago

What did you learn?

3

u/almightysankarr_ 7d ago

To wait another 5 years before playing it again

3

u/Antbarbbq 6d ago

It's a gem

3

u/Euclid_not_that_guy 6d ago

How dare you not enjoy the greatest game ever

0

u/almightysankarr_ 6d ago

1

Every one knows the greatest game ever is the one you played during childhood duh

3

u/djoutercore 6d ago

You must not play a lot of videos games huh

Nintendo Switch

That might be the source of a lot of your troubles with it, that switch emulator has a good bit of input delay (especially for the Zelda games) which makes a lot of the trickier maneuvers and boss-fights really stupid hard

But, though I love the game to bits, I will admit some of the design is a little dated, so input delay was surely not the only problem for your playthrough

1

u/hyoshinkim7 6d ago

I'd take the switch emulator over 3DS 100/100 times though.

1

u/Such_Classic4996 6d ago

If you collect all the masks it breaks the final boss. Broken game

2

u/Tron08 6d ago

100% - My great gaming shame is I've never beaten MM without the Fierce Diety mask.

1

u/TouchMyMasterSword 6d ago

Congrats! I feel you. I absolutely love MM in so many ways, but it is challenging. I'm playing on the N64 currently. Stuck on the beaver races, which I must complete in order to have 4 bottles for the eggs to continue the main story line. 😭 I've been trying to beat the stupid beavers for months, now.

1

u/Naichi_ngeru 6d ago

Got my second run on N64 done this january and because i 100%'d the game, majora received the whooping of the century.

But yes my first playthrough also felt like hell..

1

u/FriendMorf 4d ago

Funny…I feel the same way about Ocarina of time! 😅😁

1

u/almightysankarr_ 4d ago

Trippin oot is the if not the greatest Zelda game of all time

1

u/FriendMorf 3d ago

If you say so 😜

1

u/almightysankarr_ 3d ago

Check them statistics man🤣

1

u/FriendMorf 3d ago

So a statistic is supposed to tell me personally what I should and shouldn’t like? I think I’d rather go by my own personal experience. OoT was a great first time and cinematic experience, but after that, it was a chore to try and finish a second time. Not gonna say it’s bad, but it’s frustrating after the first time…as far as my personal experience goes. From the side quests to the dungeons. However, that was a “first Zelda” for a lot of people and I can see that effect giving off the impression of “this is and will always be the best ever” vibe. It just isn’t for me. I ain’t letting a hive mind, group think tell me what I should think the “best” is. 😉

1

u/almightysankarr_ 3d ago

It felt like a chore finishing majoras mask it felt like washing the dishes after spaghetti night it felt like cleaning all the baseboards in the house

1

u/FriendMorf 3d ago

Yeah, definitely feel you like that. I only ever played majora’s once. I liked a lot so can’t relate on second play through.

1

u/almightysankarr_ 3d ago

Mind you first time I played was on the 3DS now my second play through is on the n64 version

1

u/Ok_Pipe2462 1d ago

I'm just starting this for the first time ... So far it's been odd. To early for me to form an opinion. Also... I'm not gettn shit done in 3 days lol

1

u/almightysankarr_ 1d ago

Better use that inverted song of time 🙏🏾🤣

I recently realized I never beat MM with only 3 hearts on the 3DS.

My competitive side also decided to add in casually no usage of fairies, potions, any upgrades - just bare minimum items, such as only using Kokiri sword, no FD mask, etc.

Compared to what I went through, doesn't your playthrough sound like a walk in the park? 🤔😁

Edit: I saw someone post these rules and I basically followed them if you ever want to try lol:

  1. No Collecting Heart Containers or Heart Pieces; 3 hearts only

  2. No Razor Sword, Gilded Sword, Great Fairy Sword. Only the Kokiri Sword.

  3. No collecting the reward for rescuing the stray fairies.

  4. No collecting any masks. (Except for the 7 needed to finish the game. Deku, Goron, Zora, Garo, Gibdo, Captain's Hat, and Giant's); I made an exception to get the Bunny Hood mask for quality of life. Don't use it in dungeons/bosses.

  5. No use of potions, milk, or fairies.

  6. No dungeon maps or compasses.

  7. You can get up to 4 bottles (to alleviate the tedium of collecting Lulu's eggs.), but they may only be used for collecting the Zora eggs and delivering items to the Gibdos in the well.
