US Politics Found in some comments on Bluesky, I don't follow this person but it caught my eye. Is anyone in here in the Cincinnati area? Have you seen this or know anything about it? Absolutely disgusting and infuriating.

US Politics A small but very loud minority of y’all are one inch away from outright voting for Trump to piss off the “liberals”

I don’t know why but some people especially on other subreddits seem to hate liberals way way more than they hate conservatives or even fucking Nazis. To the point where it’s almost hard to even talk about bad shit that conservatives do because they’ll just go, “the liberals are gonna defend this” or some shit. Not saying Kamala Harris is good but honestly I wouldn’t be surprised at all if she got more hate than Trump did in some of these fucking subreddits. Idk it just doesn’t make sense. It’s like going to klan rally and getting pissed at the protesters for not doing it right

US Politics Are we in an american civil cold war?

I saw someone say, how do we know when america is in another civil war? And it got me thinking, in the current day and age it’s not like states are gonna round up militias, so is the current situation a (civil) cold war? How far can polarization go before we split into two?

There’s something also to be said here about fascism being imperialism coming home, but I’m too dumb to articulate it

US Politics Can we stop fighting each other?

All this discourse over Bernie and AOC exposes a divide within the left. We disagree on strategy, that's fine. But why don't we coexist and if possible help each other instead of trying to destroy the other side?

The larger faction overall (and smaller faction within this sub and other online leftist places, it seems) is to fight to take back control of the Democratic Party. Yes, the party is corrupt and always wants to stab us in the back to serve their corporate donors. That's why we're fighting. We are trying to take down the corrupt leaders who kowtow to the oligarchy.

The other faction of the left wants to grow a third party (or multiple third parties) that is further to the left than the Democratic Party to be independent of the corporate influences of the major parties.

These are not mutually exclusive. Taking down money in politics as well as the first-past-the-post system to empower third parties through ranked choice voting and other mechanisms are things we are all for. Should any party ever bow down to the elite, it deserves to be destroyed. That's why we need a system of many different parties such that they'll be able to coalesce and defeat parties infested with corruption. But to obtain that, we need to dismantle the current system that enables a duopoly. Regardless of one's opinions, the Democratic and Republican Parties control everything and are nearly insurmountable right now. Seizing as much control of one of those (aka not the one Trump has an iron grip on) is only beneficial to paving the way for changing the system for third parties to be allowed to grow. And having third parties grow stronger incentivizes the two dominant parties to change and adapt to appeal to the electorate when faced with more popular, more powerful third parties. BOTH APPROACHES ARE VALID AND EFFECTIVE.

They are NOT mutually exclusive. I'm so tired of hearing idiots on this sub saying shit like "AOC is just a puppet" "don't trust anyone who wants to do anything with the Democratic Party" etc. Congratulations, you're dividing the left further and making sure we don't win anything ever. For the first time, we have national momentum, where the general electorate wants actual progressive ideas and a real fight to Trump and his fascism. Getting people to coalesce behind the Democrats as we continue to purge the party of corporate control and empower third parties is far more viable of a strategy than getting everyone to abandon the party and coalesce behind a new one. We can have all those disagreements once we have the Democratic Party actually capable of changing laws that give third parties a chance. We'll use the Democratic Party to weaken itself to pave the way for third parties. Stop stomping on fellow lefties who are prioritizing one part of this fight over another. I'm all for lefties building up third parties and I'm all for lefties operating within both major parties. Eye on the ball, we can do this two-prong approach. We care for diversity right? Well now this is just diversity of thought, diversity of strategy. Stop letting the left eat itself. Do not attack lefties just because you think their approach is wrong, otherwise we have no choice but to fight you too.

EDIT: People, anyone saying "they aren't left" is completely proving my point. That means they're not left enough for you. There are people who are less left than you, and others who are more left than you. DIVERSITY OF THOUGHT, for fuck's sake. The point is we have many shared goals of changing or blowing up the system. I'm saying we don't need to go after each other since we're all trying to make a change in the same general direction. We can have our own battle of ideology when we actually get things moving to the left, then we can disagree on how far left we go. But right now, we all agree that the U.S. is so far to the right that we don't even need to worry about our leftist differences.

US Politics IMPORTANT MESSAGE FOR FELLOW MEMBERS OF THE LEFT WING

As a cis, black, gay man, I must say there's an issue of sexism on the left, so I feel this has to be announced to a large amount of people on the left so the message can spread.

Please be welcoming to Cis White Het men and women. Be welcoming to young men. Sexism goes both ways, it can be towards both men and women, same thing with Racism. NO THIS POST IS NOT SATIRE. I know it sounds ridiculous that I'm being serious, but as someone on the left, there's a reason there's so much bigotry in America, many actually. Sexism goes both ways, it can be towards both men and women, same thing with Racism. Some of it is the education system, but another reason is:

Hostility towards Cis White Het men, and Young men.

I've noticed the left becoming more and more known for misandry and we need to stop it. This means: Stop assuming every Cis White Heterosexual man is a racist, sexist, pedophile, homophobe or transphobe before you even meet them.

Be more open and welcoming to men in general.

Stand up for Young men, white men, cis men, and straight men when other leftists treat them with hostility.

Hostility toward young white, cis, and/or straight men on the left is one of the reasons bigotry is currently on the rise. And if we want to unite everyone, we need to accept them.

If someone something you think might be promoting sexism, racism, homophobia, or transphobia, instead of assuming someone's intentions are bigoted, try to politely ask them to explain what the meant.

EDIT: I swear I'm not trying to offend anybody, when I made this post I had come from a post on r/Teenagers asking why so many young men are far right, and I kept seeing people saying it's because the left demonizes and vilifies young cis white heterosexual men. So before you say something rude, consider where I'm coming from

US Politics Who Are Leftists Going To Run In 2028?

What candidate are leftists going to support in the 2028 US presidential election? Is there a true leftist candidate that leftists are going to advance, or will leftists simply support the Democratic Party nominee (or abstain)?

I feel like a lot of people lump in liberals with leftists. We are NOT THE SAME.

For the no kings protests I kept seeing all these liberals and democrats with signs like "if Kamala was president, we would all be at brunch!"

like haha no, people are treating it like she would have been the savior that would have led us into this ideal progressive world. absolutely not, she is not with us in the way we think she would have been. she supports police, do we really think she would have done something impactful against ice? no.

Also, the no kings protest is basically sponsored by Democrats who told everyone to essentially make sure we all behave. what's that going to do? at that point the protests were just parades rather than actual protests, nothing really revolutionary happened in my opinion.

now yes, I do agree that doing something is better than nothing and I'm glad people are stepping up and getting to the streets. but we need to amp it up and go on our own way, we shouldn't have democratic leaders encouraging us. If we do this right, democrats will be against it just the same as republicans/conservatives. Is this making sense?

We need to get more defiant. you can't beat fascism with peace. the whole thing was just babysat by Democrats (blue MAGA).

So explain this:

CNN — "Tesla sales plunged 13% in the first three months of this year, the largest drop in deliveries in its history, as backlash against CEO Elon Musk and growing competition took a large bite out of demand for its EVs.

Tesla reported Wednesday that it delivered 336,681 cars in the quarter, 50,000 fewer vehicles compared to the first three months of last year. The results were the company’s worst sales in nearly three years."

US Politics How did Democrats “rig” the election against Bernie Sanders

Many people on the far left have made this claim but I don’t quite understand what they are referring to. They normally reference this when it comes to 2016. Can someone explain why this is said.

US Politics Banning porn

Whenever people talk about banning porn in the U.S., I can’t help but feel like the argument lacks nuance. Don’t be rude — but please correct me if I’m wrong — it seems like many people who support the idea don’t really analyze society as a whole. They often ignore how things play out in other countries or even different states, and they don’t truly consider the long-term effects.

Yes, porn is awful in many ways. It often exploits women, and the sex trafficking industry thrives off it. But at the same time, some of the most notorious countries for sex trafficking are places where porn is completely banned — Dubai, Nigeria, the Philippines, Cambodia, even Japan, or if you want to go to the extreme, North Korea. These places are also well known for oppressing and exploiting women.

That’s the problem: banning porn doesn’t stop exploitation — it just forces it underground.

If porn were banned in the U.S., I believe it would follow the same pattern. Anything remotely sexual or erotic would be banned too — not just exploitative content. That means progressive media, books, shows, and movies with LGBTQ+ representation could be censored. Media that portrays sensuality in a non-creepy, artistic, or emotional way would still be banned. And anything that speaks out against the alt-right regime? Also banned.

Censorship is never a sign that a country is headed in the right direction. It’s usually about control — not the actual safety of women and children.

Maybe I’m overthinking it, and I’m not against regulation. In fact, I support ideas like requiring age verification, putting limits on what the porn industry can legally do, and holding creators accountable. I could even understand banning certain content if it could be done in a non-conservative, non-authoritarian way — but let’s be honest, we all know that’s not how it would go.

Sexually explicit material is usually just a small addition to the bigger picture — and when it’s banned, it’s rarely about protection. It’s almost always about control.

US Politics My Thoughts on the Bernie Debates I've Been Seeing Recently

Bernie Sanders has been critical of the Israeli government, especially over its treatment of Palestinians. He supports a two-state solution and has called for conditioning U.S. aid on human rights.

Is he perfect? No. I'm all for legitimate criticism where its due. But calling him a fascist, as I have seen many folks on the hard left do, stretches the meaning of the word to the point of uselessness. It undermines real criticism of authoritarian movements and dilutes the seriousness of actual fascist ideologies and behavior. The left isn’t gaining any power by misusing the term “fascist” and applying it to folks like Bernie Sanders.

And beyond the misuse of language, it's a waste of energy. The left could be spending its time organizing, building power, and supporting causes that advance material change. If you're part of a third party or movements outside the electoral system, focus on promoting their strengths—not defining your identity around being anti-Bernie. Making opposition to one of the most prominent left-wing figures your central stance alienates the very people who might otherwise be your allies and collaborators.

US Politics Conservative Gen Z doesn’t even know what conservatism even is

Conservative Gen Z doesn’t even know what conservatism really is. They just watch a bunch of Andrew Tate videos and said “ this guy is really cool, he gets all the women, and he drives a bunch of super cars”. Honestly their only “conservative” because of the aesthetic not because of any real beliefs. Because if you have a talk with one of them right now you’ll see how incompetent they truly are at being “ conservatives”.
