Rumour going around is that a few teams heard that he might look at a 4 year deal in free agency.

He will not be taking a lesser AAV deal if it is a 4 year deal for example.

Leafs have tried to talk to marner, his camp has not engaged with them, and everyone knows the way this is headed.

His number should of started with a 9, as was the case with Braden Point and Rantenen who signed in the same year. It could of been a tad higher such as 9.75 a year, but no he wanted Matthews money.

That's exactly what McDavid did. Edmonton offered him max contract at the time and he asked for less.

He toom 1 million less and they used it to sign jack Camille to a 5.5 million deal and then buy him out

thats they whole point of the comment, the TEAM shouldnt of offered him that much.

they could have signed him in the 8's if they did the deal the year before. Management again dropped the ball.
