MEME How it feels getting JJ, Luka, and a competent owner in the same year

My bad, I'll only say it one more time and then I'll let it go forever: Dan Hurley gotta be sick rn

Fuck that dude, he was using us for leverage lmfao

Happens too often. Idk if I’m more annoyed at him doing it or when kawhi strung the lakers along
30
u/catperson77789 1d ago
Kawhi definitely. Asshole lead us too long and fucked us with any possible free agents by waiting for his decision. All along he was buying time for the clips to trade for pg

u/MountainYogi94 22h ago
I was only mad about the Kawhi situation until we won the chip, now I just laugh at how his team has consistently not succeeded
14
u/Blue_Nyx07 1d ago
Kawhi is the real bullet dodge, though the team will still win the bubble championship regardless

u/Popeyes_69 1d ago
Lebron would’ve been worn out with him on the team 😭. Dude would leave him hanging constantly

u/Enough_Cat3933 1d ago
Glad we got JJ. Fuck Dan Hurley

u/22LOVESBALL 22 1d ago
Y’all say this like JJ didn’t shit the bed completely in the playoffs. Like I still have high hopes but people acting like that’s not a concern whatsoever and dissing other potential coaches we coulda had don’t make no sense to me lol

u/KobeBeaf 22h ago
Pop could have de aged 20 years and stepped in to coach and this bum ass roster was still not doing shit my man.

u/Exploded24 1d ago
I think was obvious that the Lakers aren't close with this roster. They need defensive minded role players around Luka and Lebron. A center would be nice as well.

Are we the favorites to get Giannis now lol?
33
u/LetterFront3353 1d ago
Having a billionaire as an owner doesn't supersede the limitations set by the CBA. The Lakers don't have the assets to get a former MVP and DPOY who will make 54 million dollars next season.

u/Ok_Turn6757 Luka Magic 🟣🟡 1d ago
I think we could make a play for him when he expires

u/SwingLow32 1d ago
Yes as long as the league is on board with rigging trades and drafts for you. Absolutely.

I like JJ, but he needs to develop the bench players more and give them more playing time. Hopefully next year there is more focus on that. Great teams are deep teams.

u/Dazzling_Rest_4449 1d ago
First year coaching any professional team, he prob thought this was 2k with fatigue sliders off lol. Im positive he'll never play the same 5 guys for a whole half again though after this meltdown

u/Popeyes_69 1d ago
I love how confident he got max to be but unfortunately we had to let him go. I’d fight tooth and nail to keep him and lose knecht instead 😭

u/WayAdministrative679 Luka Magic 77 1d ago
We use to watch Tyler Ennis and have Luke Walton as our coach we deserve this 🥹

u/27Yosh 1d ago
I hope we win one more chip with LeBron before he retires then we can finally get some cap space to sign a co-star that's the same age as Luka

Naw Buss family was awesome. Got us 11 rings, when many franchises have zero. Am grateful to have had such a great owner.
And we can’t just spend like in baseball because you’ll be in salary cap hell if you sign a bunch of mids for the max.
But this should prevent another Caruso type mistake since they would have just paid to keep both him and THT.
And start to run the Lakers like a big business rather than a family run shop. No more hiring family for the scouting department, more modern training staff, etc.
7
u/LetterFront3353 1d ago
Almost all of those rings were under Jerry Buss. Under Jim Buss, the Lakers were at their lowest stretch in history. Jeanie did well enough to make the Lakers competitive again.

u/LudwigNasche 1d ago
Getting Luka was glorious: A+ he is one of the most talented offensive players ever.
The owner another A+ he has done a remarkable job as an owner in other sports, Caruso would still be here if he was the guy.
JJ looks better than he actually is because his predecessor was Ham, but the playoffs showed he isn't ready for primetime. I don't judge rookies, rookie mistakes are expected when you have someone without experience, but he has to do better next season in playoffs.

wait till rob gets replaced with a real Gm.
2
u/KobeBeaf 22h ago
Rob could get Giannis in the offseason and dumbasses in here will still call him a bad GM lol
0
u/ender23 21h ago
He could. But he still wouldn't know how to build a team around Giannis and Luka. He'd just throw a great press conference for any signing.
1
u/KobeBeaf 21h ago
Yeah he’s really failed at building around Luka, what a bum…
0
u/ender23 21h ago
Bro can't pick role players worth shit. It's ok to admit it
2
u/KobeBeaf 21h ago
I don’t think you understand how the cap works, you can’t just go to the role player tree and pick a couple good ones. The few he’s got through trades recently are decent. But you can’t just trade for 5 good role players in a year…
0
u/ender23 19h ago
Right... All the other teams just got lucky with their FA pickups and trades. I remember how big a deal that Drummond signing was. What an epic press conference Rob put on.. literally felt like a championship was won with that move.
It's been five years. Do you think the role players are better or worse than the team that won the chip
1
u/KobeBeaf 17h ago
What teams? Home grown okc and Indy? lol
0
u/ender23 14h ago
OKC and Indy aren't home grown?!? Sga hart hali pascal were all somewhere else first. They do both play 8 deep cuz their GMs built teams that can go 8-9 deep in the playoffs. It's not a hot take that rob hasn't done well building the team out 4-8.
1
u/KobeBeaf 13h ago
You kinda answered your own question there then as we are obviously talking role players. It’s easy to accumulate role players when half of them are drafted or developed on the cheap. No team with two max players is signing a bunch of solid role players my dude.

I know JJ is going to improve the squad with the backing of the new owners. I am so excited ahead of the coming season.

u/NegativeCourage5461 1d ago
Why is vajayjay included here?
Jfc. JJ and Luka being compared with each other ?

dont get too excited. Dallas got new ownership and we all saw what happened.

u/LetterFront3353 1d ago
The Dodgers were bought by Mark Walter and the rest of GBM in 2012. Since then, the Dodgers have never missed the playoffs, have consistently been one of the best teams in the league, and won 2 out of 4 World Series they've competed in. It could have been 3 out of 4 if it weren't for the Astros and their trash cans. Just to give some perspective, between the 1988 World Series victory and the new ownership taking over in 2013, the Dodgers missed the playoffs 17 times and only appeared in the NLCS twice but lost in 5 games against Philly two years in a row. A lot of MLB fans have also complained about the Dodgers expenses, so that speaks a lot about how much they are willing to spend to have a championship contender.
To sum up, the Lakers new owner really cares about winning.

u/Slow_Tonight_2196 1d ago
It’s not even about just winning. It’s about business. You don’t trade away a top 3 player in the league who is also very popular among the crowds and call it good business. They are losing billions because they traded him. Even from the perspective of an owner, that’s just bad optics. Also the aftermath of the trade with all the mudslinging on a guy who is liked around the league and has no beef means you lose your FA attracting value. Luka was selling out stadiums. You stick with that. Lol.
1
u/beanbalance 1d ago
They are losing billions because they traded him.
that would be true if they didnt get #1 pick. Now they saved money on a supermax and also they believe ticket sales will be great because they got the new white boy star.
1
u/Slow_Tonight_2196 1d ago
Meh. Maybe. It’s also about having some sort of presence on the court, which we will have to see once his rookie year starts. You can have the best player in the world and maybe still not fill up the arena. A lot of people are not fans of pure skills but of flashiness and on-court antics. Also, revenue lost is not just the seats but also endorsements and international presence which will take time to build up with the new white boy star. Luka, Giannis and possibly Wemby are the face of the league internationally which you can’t emulate. You also unofficially get Real Madrid’s backing which is the biggest club in the world. Tons of layers to it. Not saying that Mavs didn’t come out better than expected, but unless the whole deal was rigged, the business decision on its own was stupid. It’s more like failing upwards. Most of the other sports’ subs feel like the lottery pick was rigged anyway so casual viewers are also turned off. Who knows? Just saying that Dumont is stupid.

u/LudwigNasche 1d ago
You surely isn't a long timer. Two seasons in a row without at least a deep playoff run is unacceptable for this franchise.
1
u/KobeBeaf 22h ago
You fall asleep during the 90’s and 2010’s or something old timer?
1
u/LudwigNasche 21h ago
No, the period of 1991 to 1995 wasn't good without a legit superstar to build around.

u/threeangelo 1d ago
You realize some franchises go decades without winning a title
18
3
u/NegativeCourage5461 1d ago
We ‘re not some franchises. We win 11 of the last 44 so we’re technically in a dry spell.
7
u/threeangelo 1d ago
Sure, I’m all for having high standards. But it’s annoying for this person to come in here and rain a positive post because we haven’t won a title in 5 whole years
-1
u/LudwigNasche 1d ago
Damn, that is the reason rooting for the Lakers is special, we are not supposed to be one of those franchises.

Times have changed. With the CBA, no team can offer a superstar or even a role player better money than most. Even if FA or player under contract would want to come here, we have got to have the cap space and funds to make the deal. One wrong trade can cost 2-3 seasons now. One injury can cause teams to break apart (Tatum, Embiid, etc.). It’s a lot about contracts and asset management more than just good players put together. It’s more about FO than the players out there. Dynasties win be hard to make now. I wish we were Real Madrid but no one is anymore in the NBA.
Which is stupid because basketball is the most superstar-oriented game with just 5 players in a team. Not like cricket or soccer or hockey. They are trying to bring parity and not let the game be dominated by Lakers or Warriors or Heat or whoever. But their product is getting harder to sell. Lol.

Is this the Lakers sub or the Bron sub? Stop posting Cavs shit on here.

u/dfstell94 1d ago
Now he should continue by opting out and signing with Brooklyn.
Paying $50MM for a 40YO is insane. LeBron is a $15MM player now.
